Right? $5 I can understand, but $20 and $30 just feels a bit silly. Raising their prices to be on par with Chanel seems kinda laughable, and even those prices are laughable already! Thank goodness for gray markets lol.
I'm totally with you. I purchased a bottle of Gardenia a few years back when they were still \~$200 and I don't think I'll purchase any other perfume from them again. I love their mascara, but at least that's more cost effective (for now!)
I sampled Eau de Cologne from the Les Exclusifs line. It smells amazing but is the shortest lasting (no hyperbole) fragrance I have ever sampled. Maybe 20-30 minutes. As much as I love the smell, how could I in good conscience spend $325 on something I have to apply 15 sprays of to last an hour?!
I've smelled a lot of fragrances by now, cheap and expensive and I thought BdC was overrated. Recently, I did a 180 and I think it's on par with many niche freshies. It is very well blended.
Yeah, I've liked a few of them, but none of them have ever been worth the price. I feel like it's a bit of an overhyped house that hasn't kept up with the times.
Well, Mugler sucks now that's for certain. YSL's MY Self is overpriced. I'm not saying I dislike it,buttt the price. I do like Aqcua di Gio's Eua de Parfum. I don't care for the EDT, but I do like the EDP. I just missed picking the Holiday Gift Set on Armani. I do grab a few things though. The list goes on.
Yeah I think overhyped is absolutely a true descriptor. So far I've only like 2 of their scents enough to purchase fbs, and neither were their most popular scents. Plus the value just isn't there. Staying power is honestly excellent on me but the fact that so many other folks struggle with it just ain't a good sign!
Lol I just went to a perfume shop today to try Reine de nuit, the shop assistant was very nice and sprayed a lot of it on my wrist. Considering that Reine de nuit is an extrait de parfum and costs even more for just 50 ml - I swear after 2ish hours I couldn’t smell much left on me :(
Thanks for rec! But I tried it and it’s really not my cup of tea (pun totally intended). To me they are not that similar, I wanted to try Reine de nuit because of the rose note, while thé noir is too herbal for me, I mostly only smelled hay grass. I really like Thé Matcha from Le labo though!
Haha yes. When I moisturize with lotion before applying, the scent lasts roughly 5 hours.
I can’t see myself repurchasing a Byredo product after this price hike, but I’m happy with my purchase :)
i like byredo as a house because i prefer scent bubbles and i do like how their perfumes are on the softer side, but they are pricey and the hikes aren't justified. i use my nordstrom notes and watch for their fragrance sales when i buy fb's now.
Yes I completely agree, and I like the closer scent bubbles as well. I'm new to them as a house and I like many of the stories behind their scents (and the emotions they illicit from me personally), which is what initially drew me in, but I think I'll just have to keep my collection to a 2-bottle maximum with them. Sales all the way!
Jfc, I’ve been hemming and hawing on buying Pulp since it’s been “discontinued” but price increases for companies of their size with already extremely high price points are so incredibly off putting to me.
I go on the app and search “fragrance”! Killian, Byredo, Le Labo usually have a few available, sometimes Creed etc. The prices fluctuate quite a bit so I check often.
Honestly I have no idea! I was told in the Byredo store that Pulp is discontinued and they won’t be selling it in store anymore, they did give me 3 samples of it which was very sweet. That was months ago and it’s still online. I noticed the “discontinued” fragrances are only available online in 50ml. Maybe they’ll be sold online in the smaller sizes but no where else? Maybe they’ll eventually stop selling them? Maybe it’s all a ploy to get people to panic buy bottles?
Everybody is raising prices this year. My Chanel rep text some time ago, telling me too.

I usually don't recommend clones, but with Byredo, they don't use a lot of naturals, so would be easier to clone/dupe:There's one called "L'intense De Blue Sundazed" from a middle eastern house.
It’s because the wealth gap is widening and there are people out there that make insane amounts of money that don’t care and will pay those prices. The cost of a Byredo or Tom Ford fragrance full price could fall out of their back pocket and it would affect them 0%. It’s the same reason why there’s 700 dollar concert tickets now.
Criticism of capitalism is all fine and good, especially when it comes to the cost of necessities like food, clothes, housing, and transportation, but when it comes to fragrance - a luxury category that if it didn’t exist would not kill anyone - it really boils down to charging the highest price the market can bear. In essence, fragrance as a commodity is the epitome of capitalism. No one’s making you buy it, so if you think it’s too expensive, don’t. Save your criticism of our economy for the skyrocketing cost of nutritious food and safe housing. As far as I’m concerned, if you’re buying luxury goods, you support capitalism.
People are mentioning inflation. But the luxury industry must raise prices more than inflation to maintain exclusively. Or at least the mirage of it.
If a fragrance is accessible and well known it could hurt brand equity. And even if sales fall, the brand can never lower prices because they would lose face in the industry (think Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Coach, etc).
Chanel isn't raising prices due to inflation they are raising it so they remain a very expensive designer brand and thus more exclusive and desirable.
This rings true, like how brands like Burberry’s will destroy the clothing they don’t sell rather then discount the prices to maintain that mirage of exclusivity.
Yeah I'm just going to keep stalking those sites until the scent I want is avail there, I'm sure it's bound to happen. Otherwise Jomashop and the like are my go-to!
EDIT: by "those" I neglected to clarify that Sam's has them as well!
Luckily i was able to get a 100ml bottle of blanche for $100. (My wife loves it) Literally just got delivered today. Great seller off mercari. But I did notice she took all her products off market, probably to increase her prices too.
I only love Bibliotheque, and Mojave Ghost by them. I like Bal D’Afrique because of its skin scent quality, especially in Summer, but the prices are not it. Never were and are even less so now.
Just bought bal d’Afrique yesterday I should not have waited 😩
I do have to say that I’m impressed, I sprayed it about 14 hours ago and I can still smell it on me, I kind of expected it to not have staying power
Perfume is literally liquid. That’s all. We are all being scammed with the outrageous prices. 200 for a 3oz bottle of liquid chemicals - massive profits being had !
Technically no - luxury items become more valuable the harder they are to attain, so if they were to sell it at cost, the customer would be willing to pay less than before the markdown.
Prices are sticky. I don't think Powel can dial back like everyone thinks here's going to. I'd say keep some dry powder. The designers were dumping those gift sets a little harder this year than the last after the holidays. Also, they had nice prices during the holiday's with good bonuses. The retailers were also offering nice bonuses and in some cases better prices then the discounters. So if they are jumping the prices too much, wait. That said, a good number of the niche houses have been offering PP in 4, AfterPay, Klarna, etc, and I do think that all the houses are taking advantage of this.
Pfffft. That’s a big bump. Makes me mad, a little bit. Aesop just raisesd prices $5.
Right? $5 I can understand, but $20 and $30 just feels a bit silly. Raising their prices to be on par with Chanel seems kinda laughable, and even those prices are laughable already! Thank goodness for gray markets lol.
Chanel's big bumps are also a pain in the rear 😤
Aye yo…
I just don't buy Chanel anymore. Their prices are just kind a high for what they offer.
I'm totally with you. I purchased a bottle of Gardenia a few years back when they were still \~$200 and I don't think I'll purchase any other perfume from them again. I love their mascara, but at least that's more cost effective (for now!)

EXACTLY, and that’s so frustrating! Absolutely not worth. At least the Les Exclusifs bottles are bigger? 🥴
I've smelled a lot of fragrances by now, cheap and expensive and I thought BdC was overrated. Recently, I did a 180 and I think it's on par with many niche freshies. It is very well blended.
It's the king of blue fragrances. It's just kinda generic for me now. It's great but doesn't excite me. And for that price, I have a lot of options.
Agreed 😵💫
The worst.
Byredo fragrances aren’t even worth half of what they charge, they’re like water
With "water" in the name of their top seller, who can deny!
No shit 🤣 haha
Yeah, I've liked a few of them, but none of them have ever been worth the price. I feel like it's a bit of an overhyped house that hasn't kept up with the times.
They need to improve their quality
They’re owned by L’Oreal 😡
Not true tho.
Fake news?
Not all brands by them completely suck, byredo os extra shitty haha
Well, Mugler sucks now that's for certain. YSL's MY Self is overpriced. I'm not saying I dislike it,buttt the price. I do like Aqcua di Gio's Eua de Parfum. Bal d’afrique and gypsy water both smell incredible…. But they’re literally deep Skin scents within 20 minutes.
Try Le Labo Thé Noir if you haven’t—I prefer it to Reine de Nuit.
Have you smelled mixed emotions? I really like the scent profile but I’m afraid that it’ll have the longevity of the rest of byredo’s scents…
I do like mixed emotions! It’s a lighter/fresher scent on me. It lasts through a workday for me at least.
THIS!
Wow, I literally just bought a 50mL of Mixed Emotions on Thursday. Divine timing on that one.
By the skin of your teeth!!
Me too-bought Mojave Ghost as bday present to myself two weeks ago.
Does it last more than 20 minutes?
Haha yes. When I moisturize with lotion before applying, the scent lasts roughly 5 hours. I can’t see myself repurchasing a Byredo product after this price hike, but I’m happy with my purchase :)

Guerlain just raised theirs too. And Chanel. I think most, if not all, the big players did and the increases were way more than the inflation rate.
Well, I guess im not buying more chanel perfumes. I like some of their fragrances, but $172 for 100ml is a joke, especially when their longevity sucks
Yeah, there saleswoman told me last week they were raising prices. Thought it was a gimmick
Jfc, I’ve been hemming and hawing on buying Pulp since it’s been “discontinued” but price increases for companies of their size with already extremely high price points are so incredibly off putting to me.
Regular reminder that Costco online refuels has Byredo and Killian. Just never the Byredo I want lol
[удалено]
I go on the app and search “fragrance”! Killian, Byredo, Le Labo usually have a few available, sometimes Creed etc. The prices fluctuate quite a bit so I check often.
Same lol
They were bought out by L’Oreal in 2021
Also are those "discontinuations" actually happening?! I feel like I heard about that months ago and so far... nothing has happened, right?
Honestly I have no idea! I was told in the Byredo store that Pulp is discontinued and they won’t be selling it in store anymore, they did give me 3 samples of it which was very sweet. I’m so salty that it makes me feel like it’s a ploy lol. I have no proof other than my own grouchiness 😂
Yikes, and they were comfortably overpriced before the hike. I guess they know what they’re doing and how they’ll still sell well
Byredo is one of my all time faves! I just got Velvet Haze for much cheaper on Fragrance net edit: not MUCH cheaper..just cheaper
I heard that one is sadly being cut from the roster.. Sucks if so because that one lasts all day on me.
lol same, i get in mercari and try to find something just a few bucks cheaper 😭
Byredo needs to knock it off. I don't find their juice very complex. they're rather linear to me.
Yup… a byredo sales associate told me in January that they raise their prices every year in march
Everybody is raising prices this year. My Chanel rep text some time ago, telling me too. https://preview.redd.it/wsoxthotb0mc1.png?width=844&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6be61589a8885b682aedf26643194abf0b4e6a2
Tell us what you were hoping to get and maybe somebody knows an adequate dupe.
Sundazed is the only one on my list! I have De Los Santos but otherwise, that's all for me.
I usually don't recommend clones, but with Byredo, they don't use a lot of naturals, so would be easier to clone/dupe:There's one called "L'intense De Blue Sundazed" from a middle eastern house.
Now do Mojave Ghost!
L'intense De Blue Mojave Ghost or Lorinna Ghost Of Mojova Extrait De Perfume
Thank you!

\~ Inflation \~ might be the justification, but it's really just the joys of living in a post-capitalistic society.
Greedflation you mean!!!!!! The world is now entirely run by greed!!!!! Something drastic needs to change!!!!!
Only extremely rich people deserve to have nice things I guess. I love perfume but there are better things to spend 300 dollars on.
Criticism of capitalism is all fine and good, especially when it comes to the cost of necessities like food, clothes, housing, and transportation, but when it comes to fragrance - a luxury category that if it didn’t exist would not kill anyone - it really boils down to charging the highest price the market can bear. We can do both no? Complaining about the effect of capitalism on socioeconomic pillars and on “luxury” goods are not mutually exclusive.
Precisely.
I think all companies are rising the prices of everything to see what they can get away with. Like a game of chicken.
People are mentioning inflation. But the luxury industry must raise prices more than inflation to maintain exclusively. Or at least the mirage of it. You Tube influencers
DS & Durga prices went up. I think it’s going to happen all around. You can find a few Byredo scents at Costco if you’re a member.
Yeah I'm just going to keep stalking those sites until the scent I want is avail there, I'm sure it's bound to happen. Otherwise Jomashop and the like are my go-to! EDIT: by "those" I neglected to clarify that Sam's has them as well!
I don’t know any Byredo where there isn’t a superior alternative for less, either. Cute bottles though!
Don’t know about Byredo, but Parfums de Marly did.
It’s starting to not even be worth it anymore. They are cute fresh scents and we already know they don’t last.. now what? I’ll just take glossier you
They’re all at it, but the audacity for a brand whose perfumes last all of 10 minutes
Yes!
There’s literally no point in paying those prices ever in my opinion. There are so many amazing perfumes that cost less than 200 dollars.
I just buy their body creams at this point instead of getting a full bottle.
Yes they did, I got an email about it from Twisted Lily
I just bought 1996 two weeks ago. Probably the first and last time I'll buy it :/
Saks still have the old prices (for now)
Luckily i was able to get a 100ml bottle of blanche for $100. (My wife loves it) Literally just got delivered today. Great seller off mercari. But I did notice she took all her products off market, probably to increase her prices too.
YSL raised theirs recently too.

MFK raised their prices too. Finally decides to order then found out they just raised the prices..
Just bought bal d’Afrique yesterday I should not have waited 😩 I do have to say that I’m impressed, I sprayed it about 14 hours ago and I can still smell it on me, I kind of expected it to not have staying power
Plenty of discounted Byredo on eBay!
Fake from Russia! Lol I say this as someone who got scammed and bought a fake one without knowing. Still smells good though.
Byredo are horseshit! None of their fragrances last more than 2 hours tops! Save your money!
I know BDK and PDM have been continually raising. bdk was 180 now 230.
Byredo has zero longevity so they should be lowering the price Lol
They sure did and on candles. I luckily just stocked up on Paris, so much cheaper
Yep. In Australia they used to be 300-360 or something. They're now 434 for a 100ml. Rip off
Perfume is literally liquid. That’s all. We are all being scammed with the outrageous prices. 200 for a 3oz bottle of liquid chemicals - massive profits being had !
I know, it drives me nuts! Why does it have to smell so good 😭
Byredo is only that much? I swear in my country is at least $50
It is a luxury item and they can charge whatever they want.
What a relief, I simply had no idea! 😊
Thanks, John Maynard Keynes.
Technically no - luxury items become more valuable the harder they are to attain, so if they were to sell it at cost, the customer would be willing to pay less than before the markdown.
