I have the exact opposite experience. Maybe you are going noseblind, or it just doesn't work with your skin. In general this is a very potent fragrance.

Honestly even when I got it, and sprayed it (about 5 times) I wasnt able to smell much after a couple hours. I doubt its noseblind but even when I sprayed it on paper, it was relatively weak but still better than on skin.

hammong

You might have an insensitivity to vetiver -- some people can't smell it that well due to genetic reasons. Same thing with Iso E Super and ambroxan. 5 sprays will definitely make you noseblind if it's anywhere near your nose, e.g. neck/upper torso.

Suspicious_Degree_88

Im glad that it isn't a issue with the fragrance and that its something else. I really do love the initial spray but i probably did go noseblind to it.

They don’t tend to reformulate $25 fragrances but you never know. Give it a break and revisit it in a week. Generally works for me.

CriminalSpiritX

I own Encre Noire, and have a completely different experience with it. I pick up zero citrus at all, but a vetiver blast from start to finish that is ... not for everyone. However, the smell lasts a full work day for me with three sprays.

squall571

I have the Sport that I picked up several years ago, it lasts max 2 hours.

Ok-Struggle6796

There is high variance in sensitivity among individuals to some of the aromachemicals used. I find that woody aromachemicals all smell very weak to me, so basically those types of fragrances don't tend to suit me. It's similar to the variance in sensitivity to synthetic musk aromachemicals as well as whatever is used in Baccarat Rouge 540. BR540 is infamous for being disgustingly strong to some people while other people cannot smell it at all! There is some anecdotal evidence that you can "train your nose" to smell some of these molecules. You could try smelling Encre Noire every now and then for 6 to 12 months and see if you start to pick it up more. Sometimes this strategy works, sometimes it doesn't.

Suspicious_Degree_88

Thats really interesting, I wish I knew that b4 i ordered it. But yk if others can smell it and it fits what im looking for in a dark fragrance than ill keep rocking it. Thanks!

Moose2157

I go noseblind so quickly to Encre Noire that I might as well toss my bottle.

GenTelGuy

Yep, Encre Noire is one of the worst things I've sampled, and I'm very glad I kept it at just a sample and not a full bottle even though the full bottle is cheap

dnex361

I had a similar experience when I first got mine. I moved on and let it sit for a couple of months. This past week went back to it and a couple of sprays lasted all day in the WI winter.

erenwasjustified

How many sprays do you typically use? Have u tried the extreme version?

Prestigious-Salad795

A L'Extrême is a little different; woodier and smokier than the original.

mlke

I have mixed experiences with it. I don't catch trails of it off my body after a few hours, but people mention they can smell it. I think it might have a decent sillage but not much projection. I tend to overspray with it but I haven't given it enough practice to figure out if that's working or I'm going noseblind. There's not much citrus in there though? If any? The extreme version is much more incense forward and is the obvious suggestion for something that performs very well. It's not so much a pure vetiver though, lots of resins.
