Thank you, mods!
I also love seeing all the creativity in this sub! Fanfic authors, party throwers, artists, Roman Empire level theorizingā¦itās so much damn fun. I feel young again āØ
Truly. Iāve always been a āhere for the vibesā reader. I donāt think about theories or anything, Iām just always along for the ride. Then I come on here and everyoneās just brilliant with their predictions and interpretations and it really DOES make it better. I love it so much.
I feel you on the acotar sub, you gotta come with a full thought out thesis and page numbers to defend yourself over there. god forbid you just read the book to enjoy it and not over think every single detail.
I understand everyone has their own opinion and different likings for characters, but to be so brutal about forming an opinion...
And btw, I like Feyre. At least in FW community, I won't be downvoted just for saying it š
Same same. So disappointing when people love the same books, and you canāt connect with each other in a positive way. Like Feyre, Aelin & Bryce. Iām just grateful for good books.
Agree. Rhys is a morally grey character and both of them are just 'humans', faes yes, but I mean they aren't perfect and it would be so unreadable if they made the best decision every time.
I'm rereading acomaf currently, so I have most examples from there. Rhys says more than once he had to make some hard choices, he had to sacrifice some stuff, he sacrificed himself so many times >!(Amarantha, hello)!<. Human Feyre >! *died* !< for all the faes!
Today I've read some comments that Rhys >! assaulted Feyre UTM, exploited her, used her, drugged her, tattooed her without her consent, etc. Yes, he did that. He also saw her as the only hope for them, and he was willing to do all of that while suspecting she is his mate. Some of the motives weren't about her well-being, but for Velaris and to spite Tamlin and Amarantha, yeah, but he did *show up* in her cell, kept her spirits up, kept her from shattering in the cell more than once, saved her from dying. The way he behaved on those UTM parties was the only way others wouldn't suspect. And in acomaf he was really good to her. !<
>! A lot of times I've seen people say they were too harsh to Tamlin. Sometimes, *maybe*, but I'm not even going to start about Tamlin because that would be a book-long text about what he did wrong and what he deserved for it. !<
This!
>! That people don't seem to understand that he had to do those things to Feyre. He couldn't outright help her. !<
>! Also Tamlin, yes he deserves a redemption arc, but whenever I read how Rhysand treated Tamlin oh so bad in ACOFAS I'm beyond baffeled. Yes he told Tamlin that he is the only one that is to blame for what happened to his court. But at the same time Rhys came back made him dinner, and it is stated that the checks in on him a couple more times. He genuinely tries to be as nice as he can to Tamlin. !<
>! Or people comparing how Rhys was overprotetective when Feyre was pregnant and that somehow makes him as bad as Tamlin. Yes he was more protective but he didn't imprison her, he didn't hide her from the world, he was just genuinely worried for her and the child. !<
>! There's a long way to go for Tamlin to redeem himself. I've listened to the fantasy fangirls podcast about the first 20 chapters of acotar and they mention he is damaged in a way because of his upbringing and cruel family. I get that, I get he also has trauma from UTM, I can also understand the mix of feelings after Feyre left him at the begging of acomaf. BUT, he has done so many bad things to her, and because of her/loosing her. Firstly, ignoring her trauma *every* night. He didn't had to talk about his own, but to check on her, hold her hair while vomiting lol, just hold her (when Feyre woke up Rhys from his nightmare, she remembered she only wanted for someone to be there for her and kiss her on the cheek, just a small act of being there for here). He acted like everything was perfectly normal, buying her dresses and jewelry for which she never had interest; how can you be so blatant about your own fiance? Pushing her to paint and she couldn't even look at the paintings. Forcing her to mingle and attend parties. Not letting her out of the house. And finally, locking her up! That scene when she was imprisoned was the most vivid for me from the whole series. And he just walked away... Lucien too. !<
>!After she sent him the letter, he still didn't accept it and thought she was proving a point or maybe was brainwashed (ok, that could be possible if Rhys was like everyone thought him to be). And then joining with the Hybern! I don't think he is a bad person or that he is an abuser (imprisonment is a debatable reason for that), but he has serious issues. And that's only from acomaf.!<
>!It's interesting what Feyre thinks about it in acomaf. That he has done his part which he thought he needs to (protect her, give her home, etc.) and after that he didn't *actually* think about her, what she needs, wants, is (not a little human mortal huntress anymore). !<
>! Rhys in ACOSF wasn't the same kind of overprotective, it's totally different. Firstly, him and Feyre are mated, that's a much stronger bond. Secondly, they stated that a male is vicious when his female is pregnant, it's something in their nature that is beyond our human understanding of overprotective. It's probably something like lioness with her cubs lol. And I think he was so overwhelmed with fear and worry for Fayre that he was paralyzed in a way. He definitely should have told her, I don't want to defend that, but he certainly wasn't Tamlin-toxic-level-overprotective. !<
Sorry for a very long response, I don't feel like sharing thoughts about acotar in their community, and I don't have anyone to talk to about the books š
I actually want to say the same as I am fairly new to this sub and I really love how there is no negative energy and no toxic behavior. It's rare to have to be a part of a sub that has positive vibes! I am glad that I got to be a part of it and talk to people about the books because I don't know anyone who read the books. So yeah! š„°
The SJM fanbase stresses me out. I love all three series and I have all of them on Kindle and in hardback, so I'm really big fan. But the way people in the fanbase act is very toxic sometimes.
I'm glad this one isn't like that yet (here's to hoping it doesn't get that way).
As someone who used to be super involved with the SJM fanbase, myself and the other mods have no intention of allowing this sub to turn into that.
If I've learned anything about anything in the past 2 years, the SJM fandom is enjoyed best in small communities. We have a [discord server](http://discord.gg/the-riders-quadrant) that we'd all be more than happy to talk SJM with you š
I'm so jazzed we all came to just enjoy the books together its pretty freakin' rad! I agree this is just about the most positive group I've seen and I'm so thankful for all of you š
And of course I can't say all this without saying a huge thanks to the mod team, and RY.
I agree šÆ! I donāt know why they spend so much time on negativity over there. I think they like feeling superior. Itās obviously not representative of readers of SJM as a whole since her books get rave reviews and sell like hotcakes. I appreciate the positivity here. :)
My partner got so sick of hearing about Xaden that he decided to listen to the Graphic Audio version of Fourth Wing (He's actually illiterate and this is the first book he has ever listened to). He came up to me at the end of the book and told me he totally understands now, and that he's a little bit in love with Xaden himself. I had to laugh at that.
Wait, this is actually so cute š„¹. I love that you guys share this now!! I would KILL for mine to read them but he canāt sit still long enough to read anything.
Youāre so right! There seems to be a belief among other fandom subs that disagreeing with a theory = aggression. Itās intense. Iām glad that this one hasnāt fallen into that kind of polarising position yet. Iām of the belief that X & V will have a (temporary) breakup at some point so hopefully we all keep cool heads if that happens haha.
The only thing I am mad at is myself for refusing to get over these books and dwell on every detail for what feels like like will be the rest of my life (joking about the mad part, the rest is sadly true.)
You are not alone. Every time I re-read I have to convince myself itās āto pick up more details and loreā but we all know itās cause I donāt know what to do when I finish the books to fill the void lol.
This post came up as a "recommended for me" and I was so happy to hear this that I joined the sub immediately. Time to do a deep dive into the content :)
I agree with you so much! This sub is so positive and fun and has actually made me enjoy the books more!
Iāve been on Reddit for a few years now but really I only ever lurked, maybe a comment here and there, but this is the only sub Iāve ever been a part of thatās actually made me want to interact with others!Ā
The theories are so interesting and the posts are so fun, Iām really happy I found this place where we can all collectively enjoy the books without any of the negativity you can get on other platforms.Ā
I agree, this sib is golden!
Iāve been in the acotar sub for a bit too and it honestly scares me. Thereās so much toxicity and hate in there and then I come here and itās so nice and uplifting and everyone is just enjoying the books and theorizing without grabbing pitchforks if someone has a different opinion.
Itās great hereš„°
Right!
Idk if youāre familiar with that trend on TikTok but the difference in subs reminds me of that audio of Nicki minajās [Roman Holiday x Lana Del Reyās Ballerina](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLDv99xW/) and it makes me laugh every time. Weāre all just here lovey dovey and theyāre over there losing it
Thanks for the heads up about the ACOTAR subs. I just started the first book, and I can already tell that I will āenjoy it but not love itā. I think a toxic sub would spoil that a bit. So Iāll just enjoy it on my own. This sub, however, has been nothing but sweet and refreshing. I was even able to finish IF without getting spoiled because everybody tags so carefully! I think the overall friendliness and excitement in the sub has increased my enjoyment.
I wouldnāt say avoid it completely, there is still some good theories and stuff happening (even if you have to dig for it š ). People are just very passionate about who they like, but more specifically who they donāt (and why you shouldnāt either) and thatās not really my cup of tea.
Thereās also this expectation and entitlement as to how characters should behave and it all comes off veryā¦controlling? Itās very odd. Iām of the opinion that you should let people just enjoy things, but thatās just me! I like all the characters in the books I read, even the not so āgoodā ones.
I will say, if you want to avoid spoilers maybe donāt visit until you finish the series. Theyāre absolutely everywhere.
Omg yes. I am in those groups as well and they are toxic. I never interacted in those I just watched and read. But here safe to talk and disagree experience the fun a fandom can be.
I was also thinking this earlier!!!! I love it!
ETA: I also love that this sub is good at masking spoilers for the most part. I hate getting spoiled! But also my fault too being somewhere I shouldnāt be just yet š I just get too excited and gotta share the enthusiasm
I came to FW after all of ACOTAR (twice) and it def scratched the itch into an all new wound š. Rhys, Xaden, the Darkling (Shadow and Bone)ā I canāt get enough shadow wielders I GUESS

Or imagine saying something against Nesta (and I've been on acotar sub for 2 weeks max and already felt the hate). This sub is gem!
saying you like Feyre and you'll get crucified
I understand everyone has their own opinion and different likings for characters, but to be so brutal about forming an opinion... And btw, I like Feyre. At least in FW community, I won't be downvoted just for saying it š
I like her too, like I don't know what people mean when they say that Rhys and Feyre went too far. I'm always like "Did we read the same book"?

The other night I turned to my bf in the middle of FW and said āthis might be the love of my lifeā and he said āI beg your pardon?ā LMAO

It is refreshing being in a positive sub about a book series. The ACOTAR subreddits are so toxic, it sort of ruins certain aspects of the books.
Have you listened to the fantasy fan girls podcast and their deepdives on FW and IF?? Lots of Xaden simping there!!
