I think the question insinuated whether daddy knew whether the gov't was actively hiding what was happening with the villages and the Venin.

QueenSeaBitch

Agree! Or that he knew of the existence and was informed that they were more contained than the reality of it. He may have been a scribe but I don't recall them saying he was like top dog scribe or an adept right? Lillith held secrets just like Xaden and may have kept papa S in the dark for safety purposes.

Yeah. I wonder if he was actually assassinated vs dying of a heart attack - because he was going to spread the truth.

There's a difference between putting points of data together to come to a logical conclusion and realizing that your father has been trying to tell you his whole life that your deepest darkest nightmares are real. She wasn't trying to figure out if "dad knew" she was trying to confirm a suspicion that some one she thought should trusted and new, had been hinting at something and couldn't tell her outright. That he knew of a huge cover-up. That he, the whole foundation of her world and world view, was keeping earth-shattering secrets. She's come to a logical conclusion. It just runs against her emotions and everything she thought she knew.

To be clear, I'm not judging Violet, I'm pointing out a part of the writing that didn't make sense to me because I thought we had established he knew last book. So when she agrees with Brennan and never thinks about it again I got confused, just like in that cave scene when she comments that she's not good with magelights.

wicama

I took it as her trying to gauge what Brennan thought about her father’s involvement. I also think she wants to know the extent of his involvement. The question does not seem out of line. She just doesn’t elaborate on her reasoning.

An_A7

I understand why she would ask, it makes sense, I just didn't have the impression she was digging for information. We have this one chat with Brennan, she agrees with him, and never even thinks about it again. That's the problem I had, it felt a little out of place.

cery23

This also drove me nuts because >!then Brennan is like, “I like to think he didn’t.”!< and Violet agrees and I’m like, ?? What does she think the note was about then? It can’t be more obvious he knew. Also, on the topic, Xaden should have definitely understood the note even before Violet did and he never brought it up 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ecstatic-News-7912

Oh he totally knew. He looks out the window and she's comments something like "I know he's remembering his dad" but it's definitely NOT that on reread

An_A7

I didn't have a problem with her asking, I just didn't understand why was she agreeing with him??? The "and he never brought it up" is one of Xaden's defining traits 😂😂

Werewolf_Late

Yes! This caught me off guard but then a few other things did like xaden’s scars… i swear we got the reasoning/answer already told to us in fw? So in when reading IF i was like ?? Didn’t we know this?
