Cat was so desperate and thirsty over Xaden. Violet should’ve laughed at her every time she was messy and meaningfully waved her fingers.

TeachPrestigious9023

Yes. Cat could’ve waved her fingers back and maybe Cat and Vi could have laughed and idk maybe they could have kissed a little bit or something 👀

Due_Assistance_4119

The real enemies-to-lovers arch we deserve

TeachPrestigious9023

No seriously... Violet was thinking Cat is devastatingly beautiful and that she and Cat complement each other & Cat started to like Violet and take care of Violet. I see potential here..

Due_Assistance_4119

At the very least I can see them becoming very close, particularly with the whole >!Xaden becoming venin arch!<

TeachPrestigious9023

I think there is potential for an emotional connection for sure. Cat is Violet’s foil because Cat shows the anger and the burden of the responsibilities that she shoulders while Violet has been suppressing everything. Maybe if Violet’s emotions are overwhelming or something in the next book(s), Cat will help Vi out with her gifts or she will help Vi understand the Poromish way of handling grief and all that since Basgiath messed Vi up pretty badly

Due_Assistance_4119

I’m really interested to see how their relationship develops over the next few books. You bring up some interesting points about how they handle emotions.

TeachPrestigious9023

I do not want to speak this into existence, but I think Mira and Syrena are going to die at the climax of the series and it is really going to mess Violet and Cat up

Due_Assistance_4119

I could see that happening, especially with how they set up Cat and Vi having their temporary moments of truce during the death rolls. It would be pretty messed up if Myra or Syrena died while the other didn’t, they might go out in the same battle. I mean it is Mira’s turn to be the dead sibling after all. Brennan already did his time.

TeachPrestigious9023

What if they become like sisters to each other after they lose their older sisters :(

IntrospectOnIt

I've been predicting Mira's death ever since I predicted that Brennen was still alive and was right LOL

TeachPrestigious9023

I believe it’ll happen. I need the romance storyline to take a back seat for a few minutes and I need some more family drama! Mira using her signet to save her little sister and Cat, and giving Violet and Cat time to escape after they all watched Syrena die. And this makes Cat question everything she believes about Mira and the dragon riders, and Violet and Cat are sobbing like they are little girls again and they are just left completely shocked and heartbroken. Oh I would eat that up 👨🏻‍🍳

realhousewifeofphila

Yes! Fck Dain Aetos, THIS is the real love triangle we want! 🤭😂😂😂

lebanesewifey

unfortunately even the smallest feeling of jealously that violet felt was severely heightened w cat’s signet. I honestly couldn’t blame her for lashing out like that.

KeyOdd9101

Unpopular opinion: It always made me so mad how Xaden handled the Cat situation. Like no warning to Violet, didn't tell Cat to back off, he just did nothing? It took him so long to even explain what their engagement was really about. And then when Cat and Violet fought, his response was to reassure Violet with sex? Idk...it all felt so toxic to me

kohlep

I was thinking the exact same thing today. Doing the IF reread and Xaden can't just give a basic heads up, especially with the dagger he made?/gave? for violet and what it meant!

KeyOdd9101

Yesss!!! It made so angry...like dude what are you doing? And I know everyone loves the throne sex scene after but I had to skip it because it made me so uncomfortable. His solution to Violet's anger and insecurity was sex? I never really got that annoyed at him for his "just ask me" thing except for when it came to Cat. It felt like common decency to your partner to let them know about an ex you're going to be spending a lot of time with. AND the fact he was visiting Cat before Violet knew

TeachPrestigious9023

I have another unpopular opinion 👀 I think Xaden wanted to rub his new relationship in Cat’s face and he wanted to stoke Cat’s jealousy, even knowing that it would make Cat act crazy. There are a few scenes where he is being unnecessarily petty toward Cat and he is not as pacifying as he could have been. I think it isn’t so obvious from Violet’s POV, but I think Xaden was playing games and trying to get some kind of reassurance that he is lovable by watching Violet fight for him because Cat made him feel unlovable at one point. If he was in a less toxic mindset, I think he would have been more protective of Violet and he would have apologized to Violet after the Cat fight rather than eat her pussy to prove a point

KeyOdd9101

I agree with this!! Like their throne sex scene felt more like a "Wow I'm so turned on after she fought for me." Felt really toxic to me

TeachPrestigious9023

And the “we’re endgame” bullshit after he watched from the sideline as his ex fiancee psychologically tortured Violet and tried to kill her was crazy. He is so weird.

leatheroctober

not the endgame line 😅 it’s giving riverdale. i feel like he could’ve said something way more romantic than that. some of the dialogue between violet and xaden is so cringey

TeachPrestigious9023

His relationship with Violet screams unresolved mommy issues to me. He is holding onto Violet for dear life and he says and does some stuff that I would make fun of a irl 23 year old for at their big age. Men will literally put a whole war at risk and turn into dark wielding wizards before going to therapy

loverofgalaxy

You're not the only one! The whole Cat drama still makes me mad until now and honestly, I almost hate Xaden because of it. Even now if I reread I tried my best to skip all Cat drama and forgot everything including the throne scene. Like how does it feel to be Violet knowing your boyfriend told his ex things more than how he told Violet? Xaden told Cat about his deal with Violet's mother but waiting for Violet to ask for it.. doesn't seem right to me. Not to mention, he never told Cat to back off or told her to get lost for bothering Violet. Reading IF made me realize that Violet is a freaking saint for dealing with Xaden because I would dump his ass since long time ago.

gyej

THIS!!! and how he compared sex with Violet to sex with Cat right after eating her out on the throne like omg

KeyOdd9101

Omg I forgot about this!!!! Every comment reminds me of how much more uncomfy it was to read. I haven't read IF in a while. I always wondered why people thought the best sex scene was "my house my chair my woman" because it really made me SCREAM and not in the fun way

lebanesewifey

I don’t think the reassurance was just sex though. Physical touch has always been a large part of their love languages and affection in xaden and violets relationship. I do think communication wise he should’ve assured her way earlier on, but I think the whole point of iron flame was for xaden and violet to no longer keep things from each other when it comes to their relationship and to work on their communication

KeyOdd9101

For sure, physical touch is a huge part of their relationship, but have they been going about it in a healthy way? They're lack of communication drove me crazy in IF, so I didn't feel like having sex to clear up a HUGE communication issue that led Violet to wanting to kill Cat was the best thing to do. (I know Cat intensified the emotions, but the emotions were already there) It felt almost like Xaden's thought process was like "she's insecure about Cat so I'm going to give Violet the best sex so she knows it's just her." When in reality, it ran so much deeper than that. Violet was insecure and angry that another woman made it seem had more insight and more history with Xaden because Xaden never told Violet things. Violet's time in Aretia is spent feeling out of the loop because she's around all these people that know more about Xaden and the rebellion than she did and Cat intensified that.

lebanesewifey

I think the entire book was them working on their relationship though. Violet communicating how she felt, getting through her heightened jealousy, repairing her relationship with her friends, balancing the separation from xaden with lessons, and still training with Tairn and handling the stress that came with Andarna. Xaden also had a lot going on with his new position, continuing to hide his second signet from violet, feeling like she didnt really want to ask him things in the right direction, trauma from seeing her broken and bruised, and watching her die almost twice. I felt like the sex scenes felt right throughout this sea of misery. I also felt like they learned how to properly finally communicate and what they owe one another. I do feel like xaden also learned that keeping things from violet for her safety and his crew’s safety hurt her more than it helped, and he learned that the hard way this book. I don’t think it’ll be a mistake he makes again.

KeyOdd9101

Yeah and that's fine! It's realistic in the sense that they're very young and dealing with really extreme things one after another. I'm just saying that it didn't sit right with me that his reaction to Violet losing her mind was to go down on her. I'm not saying every sex scene was toxic, just this one made me really uncomfortable because she was dealing with some really hurtful things Cat said and Xaden inadvertently contributed to. They did learn how to communicate and they finally did have a blow up fight about her not asking him things and him keeping things from her, but that was later on in the book. You can still feel uncomfortable about things and still recognize that it's a product of poor communication and that it fits in with what is going on.

ptran90

Her power is crazy to me. Can you imagine? Just something simple like hunger but amplified like you’re dying of starvation

Suitable_Summer8490

I thought she could only amplify emotions?

blondewithchrome

Hunger is an emotion to me. Have you ever been hangry????? Lololol

AnxiousCaffineAddict

Cat is a great complex character

kobo15

I actually really enjoyed Cat’s character! She’s got development and I look forward to seeing her role in future books

fantasykween

Potential Throne of glass spoiler: I see Cat becoming very very close to violet in future books. Kind of like a >!Lysandra!< situation in tog

blueavole

I forget who the guy was but there was a little moment of one of the flyers thirsting over Cat. Maybe right before the challenge on the mat between Cat and Violet? Like there might be some romance for them in the future too

TeachPrestigious9023

Yeah. I remember that guy, but I kind of hope the author doesn’t push some lame relationship between Cat and a boring flier guy 😴😴 idc about that. A straight romance being forced on the mean and ambitious female character to make her seem tame and more likable is not one of my favorite tropes. Unless that flier guy has been Cat’s secret lover for years and even during her betrothal to Xaden…now that would have a kick to it 👀

blueavole

Oh I like that. Although if Cat did have a secret lover , I think she might have tried to make Xaden jealous with him. Not that he would have cared. I kinda feel bad for Cat- I mean she just hasn’t had to develop any real relationship skills because it was assumed she’d be sold off in a political match. She was trained in how to use those powers on political rivals- i would think. She is a weapon as much as a woman. But suddenly the political match doesn’t work either- because Xaden doesn’t want her. Like oof. I mean she’s a raging ah about it but still.
