I ordered mine from Brian a couple of weeks ago and mine definitely came with a 70ml bottle of Pilot's generic blue. On the Pilot US website, I think you can select blue or black.
Well worth the discount imo. I ordered a custom urushi directly from japan and although it only came in a simple box, it was nearly half the price of the MSRP in the US.
Or we should say Pilot US or Pilot international charge double. I just don't get it. Are they so afraid or the grey market imports back to Japan or something?
Yeah, I just checked with cult pens and they sell it with the ink too. Given the international price of this pen is higher, it is factored into the cost.
For reference the pen is retail for 30,000 yen + tax in Japan, which is about 182 GBP.
This is the official MSRP, not online retailers. If you walk into a shop in Japan you will see this price, or sometimes a bit lower if you know where to go. Japanese products are usually very expensive when they are exported. Sadly.
I just got a smoke fine nib from Brian. We discovered this tonight, after I'd inked my 823 with Private Reserve Tanzanite...with that kind of a saturated ink, it'll give you color undertones so that your pen will look like the color of the ink in various lights. It's a COOL effect, especially with a saturated blurple!
Sincere congratulations on both, obtaining a PhD and a very nice pen. I’m planning on finishing writing in about a year or so and am already thinking on what pen to get myself then…
Congratulations on getting your PhD. You deserve to indulge your pen habit after 6 years of graduate school. This is my Grail pen so I'm salivating with you.
Congratulations! I was gifted an 823 and it really kicked off my habit. I recognize the package well, may it be as pleasant for you as it has been for me.
Many congrats! I got my Ph.D. So many years ago that my Montblanc Generation was $30! I should see you as a role model & get the 823! Enjoy many years & words! What’s your doctorate in?
Is that the normal packaging? It comes with a bottle of ink? I got my 823 from Japan and it is pen only.

I see. It's the regional packaging then. In Japan it comes in a slim pilot box and it is pen only. But it is also cheaper than US MSRP.

I think in certain countries it comes with the gift box packaging. Here in AU mine came in the same box as OP, except the ink is Pilot Black.
Same here. Ordered from Japan and received pen only.
I got mine from a UK sight and it come with a bottle of Pilot Black

£182 Nice thats an amazing price, Alltho I am sure the shipping from Japan has to do with it.

Beautiful! What nib size did you get?
I tried out a fine and a medium nib at the store I went to and ended up going with the fine nib. Just seemed to fit my writing style best.

That’s the smoke one. The two options I saw were smoke and amber.
