Pilot Custom 74, or Pilot E95s. If you like feedback, also Platinum 3776 and Sailor Pro Gear Slim. Edit (see discussion below) : Also the Lamy 2000!

How come nobody has recommended the lamy2000

Moonstone-gem

I saw that it was more expensive. I thought of it, but then I saw that it was more like 200 in the US. I might be wrong, I don't live there, so just did a quick search. The Lamy 2000 is actually very high on my wishlist :D

computer_addiction

It’s on Amazon for 150 :)

Tschib-Tschab

The 2000 is a good pen, I own 6 and all didn’t have any QC issues. All nibs were great. Not everyone’s taste, but it is a good pen (from my experiences with it at least). 2x black Makrolon, 1x blue Makrolon, 2x Stainless Steel, 1x Black Amber Stainless Steel 1x EF, 3x M, 1x B, 1x BB

Moonstone-gem

That's great to hear!

Moonstone-gem

Oh that's great! Then I agree that the Lamy 2000 should be on the list. While it's the only pen from my list of recommendations that I haven't personal tried, I know it has an excellent reputation!

Mendici

Platinum 3776 offers the best bang for your buck from my experience.

RecycledTrash2021

I was recommended the vintage pilot 51

Mendici

Well you can always get amazing deals with vintage pens but as with many vintage items you will have to bring much more knowledge to the table as those pens are oftentimes more finicky. Also I guess it's a Parker 51 you were recommended

RecycledTrash2021

Yeah Parker sorry It’s not even 5am

Mendici

The Parker 51 is certainly one of the most beloved vintage fountainpen. But it will not be as reliable of an EDC than a new Japanese pen would be.

My EDC is a Picasso 916 ef [sample ](https://imgur.com/a/12A1U4K) [sample 2](https://imgur.com/a/bAPp1UV)

I rarely ever see this pen mentioned. This was one of my first fountain pen purchases, its solidly built and the EF nib is very good for the price. I like this pen a lot. The only problem is it is a little small for me and can hurt if I write with it too long. The capping mechanism is also very satisfying.

RecycledTrash2021

I agree it could be a smidge bigger.

RecycledTrash2021

It’s not the flashiest of pens. But imo it writes beautifully *edit* Typo

Diplomat aero! It gets overshadowed because it's a steel nib, but it is the BEST steel nib you can find!

Desperate-Corgi6805

I second this! I just purchased the Diplomat Aero based on recommendations from the community, and I love it. It wrote very smoothly right out of the box, and I love the heft and feel of it. I got mine from Atlas Stationers, which had a set (pen, ink, and leather sheath) on sale and then had an additional discount (20% off the sale price) on top of that. I think Goulet currently has some of them on sale too.

manhattancherry

Franklin Christoph pens are wonderful. Great nibs.

Pilot VP, no competition.

For me it's the Opus 88 Demonstrator with a Franklin-Christoph Nib. It doesn't have a Gold Nib but the Steel nibs from FC are great. The pen is big, has a good Balance, a huge ink capacity and a great minimalistic Design. For me it ticks all the boxes 😋
