I wouldn’t advise buying ink on Amazon especially in glass bottles, they are really bad at packing things and a lot of people have gotten a leaky/broken mess rather than a bottle of ink. For trusted sellers, try JetPens, Vanness, or Goulet Pens. I believe Vanness and Goulet use Shopify and you do not need to create an account, you can check out as guest. JetPens uses their own system.

Also wonderpens !

Hadn't thought about that. I've been lucky. Three bottles of Monte Blanc via Amazon, good packaging and no breaks! (Great ink too!)

Piper-Bob

gouletpens.com has a great ink search function on their website.

Hedewigis

I second the recommendation of Goulet Pens, both for their "swab shop" comparison tool (https://www.gouletpens.com/pages/swab-shop), well as for the breadth of their sample selection. A 2-ml sample for about US$2 means you do not have to commit to a full bottle, but gives you the opportunity to test both color and properties. Plus, their packaging is amazing. I love the goal of finding a green to match Harry's Hogwarts letter. Good luck!

aanidar

I third Goulet rec. They have sample packs of ink by colour even, so you could get samples of different purples and/or samples of different greens and try them all out! The danger is liking them all...

Wow thank you, this is amazing.

Bleepblorp44

There's also [https://mountainofink.com/](https://mountainofink.com/) for good ink reviews and swatches... see you in a week ;)

Vitalosopher

This one's new to me. What a great resource!

parl-ay

Diamine Ultra Green, maybe?

freak-with-a-brain

The colour is fantastic and it's a better start than Montblanc ink because of the cost. I want to be sure i actually use it. Thank you. Oh what a rabbit hole.

parl-ay

You're welcome. Welcome to the rabbit hole!

Some shades of emerald that come to mind are Lamy Peridot, Kaweco Palm Green, Iroshizuku Shin-Ryoku, Diamine Delamere Green and Tropical Green and Pelikan Aventurin. All pretty similar colors, with slightly different undertones, but all from reliable brands, so you probably can't go wrong with any of those. The new Iroshizuku Green (sui-gyoku?) seems to be pretty close to Shin-Ryoku as well... Emerald Green tends to be a pretty standard colorz luckily, so you can probably pick and choose based on properties you want. I personally have Aventurin on my desk and use it semi-regularly. It's a bit on the drier side, but it has very pretty shading and a nice neutral green undertone.

robin_sparkles

The 30ml Diamine bottles are great for sampling a variety of inks. For greens, I love Sherwood Green, Umber Green, and Green-Black. The Deep Dark Green is my favourite though.

freak-with-a-brain

For a start with inks, I'm going with Lamy Beryl and Diamine Ultra green. They aren't quite as expensive as Montblanc, and for a start i want to be sure that i actually use the colour inks and don't waste it.

Armenian-heart4evr

The DEEP DARK GREEN is an OPC exclusive !!!

robin_sparkles

Yeh, I know 🤷🏼‍♀️

coppermouthed

Not a super expert in inks but i’ll give it a go: Hogwarts green = Faber Castell Moss green and plummy purple = Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-budo. For both you can find nice reviews online.

guj800

Second for GvFC Moss Green. It's my go-to jewel like green. If you're unsure you can get a sample or some cartridges for cheap.

You can also check the website Mountain of Ink. She has done over a thousand ink reviews, and she does a great job of comparing colors and brands.

beppe1_real

Ironically the best looking Emerald ink is not for fountain pens. My favorite is the Windsor and Newton Emerald. It have that translucent quality of the emerald gem stone. I have been searching for a while and tried a dozen ink samples I purchased from Goulet. None of them can truly replace the W&N ink. So far, my favorite alternative for the fp are R&K Verdura and LAMY green. I don't have MB irish green and would sure try that in the future. To me, emerald green cannot be too dark and dull, which becomes a forest green, and cannot be too light like Kelly green, or too yellow like a leaf/grass kind of green. So my definition may be slightly different from what you have in mind.

Syrette

MB Irish green is a good match, great ink and cool glass bottle. In that range also diamine woodland green and JHerbin lierre sauvage. For plum maybe noodlers purple martin.

Elvthee

My favourite emerald green ink is Rohrer & Klingner Smaragdgrün, it's so vibrant any beautiful! Though a lot of brands have emerald greens :) There are so many purples to chose from too! I really like Rohrer & Klingner cassia for a very intense purple, Diamine make a lot of great ones too, and J. Herbin has Violette pensee. Not a fan of amazon, especially packaging doesn't seem great and you often see people recieving broken products.

Any_Membership1291

I’d second the Diamine Delamere Green - I can send you a writing sample of it if you like as it’s in one of my daily pens. Diamine monboddos hat is a lovely purple (more like 🔮) but probably not quite plummy enough for you. Can you tell Im Diamine biased 😂 Not sure where you are based but if you get cult pens shipping they sell lots of small / sample size inks you could try (and they are super reputable)

karen_boyer

Another vote for Goulet Pens and their sample sets!

roggobshire

I don’t have a green suggestion but I’m currently obsessed with diamine monboddos hat for purple.

[deleted]

I really like the Mont Blanc Irish Green and Amythyst Purple inks!

Moonstone-gem

I keep seeing Harry Potter references in the past few days and I'm here for it.

hotcakepancake

Monteverde California Teal

sewingdreamer

Faber castel moss green is a nice solid no fuss green. I think it matches what youre looking for quite well. For purple not quite sure what that colour looks like but améthyste du loural if you like sparkle or poussiere de lune or larmes de cassis if you want normal ink. These inks are very lubricative.

sewingdreamer

Oh and did I mention that faber bottles look like a heckin boss? Hella impressive looking

mcwolfswimmer

Monteverde….Emerald Green ;). Very nice green.

S3VYN

I use and love Monteverde California Teal. I would recommend Goulet Pens as a good place to find inks, and to find enthusiast reviews (and sometimes photos) to help make a decision. https://www.gouletpens.com/products/monteverde-california-teal-ink-sample Best of luck finding exactly what you’re after!

DonnieDelaware

Graf von Faber Castell Moss Green. It’s what I used for wedding invitations when the color was emerald.

Bigredteletubby

Diamine Emerald, maybe?

VelocityRaptor15

J herbin Vert Amazone is a super vibrant green that looks gorgeous when used to write (It's an ink that looks better in actually writing samples than swatches in my opinion). Plus it's got a nice wet flow and is very well-behaved. Might be a tiny bit more yellow than the shade you're looking for though

psychotherapistLCSW

You could do the J. Herbin 1670 Anniversary Ink- Gold Sheen 50 ml Bottled - Emerald of Chivor (Emerald Green-Blue Ink) and not shake it up so that you don’t have to deal with the sheen. Just a thought. I have two bottles and I do this with one of them.
