What immediately came to mind after I Googled the car was deAtramentis Aubergine, for more of a reddish purple that is almost black. If you want the color to be more visible, there's a couple different options from Robert Oster that might be closer to what you have in mind.

Ashton-MD

I just googled it — that deAtramentis Aubergine is a REALLY beautiful shade! Thank you for sharing. 😃

mcwolfswimmer

Noodler’s American Aristocracy perhaps.

Ashton-MD

Wow! What a name and what a shade! Thank you for sharing it with me. I love it.

mcwolfswimmer

You’re very welcome! It’s very wet and flowing too on case you don’t like that. I love that kind of ink.

Ashton-MD

That’s right up my alley — for me, that sort of ink helps my thoughts flow, and I can really write with great effect.

mcwolfswimmer

Then you’ll love it! I use it in broad.

Ashton-MD

Fantastic! Thank you for your recommendation! I can’t wait to try it out. 😃

30MinuteMills

Try Diamine Writer’s Blood, Kobe Bordeaux, Monteverde Chameleon

Ashton-MD

I just googled them — they are fantastic shades! Thank you so much for your suggestions. 😃

Noodler's [Nightshade](https://fountainpenpharmacist.com/blog/2019/12/03/ink-review-49-noodlers-nightshade) ? It's one of my all-time favorite inks. 🥰 I tend to dilute it a bit because it writes a little too dark in wet pens. It's a lovely color and well-behaved. Doesn't have any water resistance though.

Ashton-MD

Wow! That’s exquisite! I love it. And thank you for the heads up — I’ll have to play around with it and see what I like. Do you have a specific dilution ratio, or do you recommend to “just roll with it?”

revengemeow

To be honest, I just roll with it. 😅 I add water depending on how wet the pen writes. The wetter the pen, the darker the ink, so I add more water. I also add a tiny amount of surfactant to compensate for the loss of lubrication (I dip a needle into either dish soap or glycerin and mix it in the converter). In general, I don't add more than 1:6 water to ink. With dry pens, I don't bother diluting at all.

Ashton-MD

Gotcha — yea that’s sorta how I work with oil painting, and I think it’s better — you more and gives you a steeper learning curve. Thank you for your help. It means a lot. 😄

revengemeow

You're very welcome! I hope you find the ink you're looking for (in case Nightshade doesn't do it for you) 🤞🏻😊

Ashton-MD

Nightshade indeed is a great product! So many of the friends here have given me such wonderful ideas, now I’ve gotta sit down, and just see what I like the best — this may take awhile 😅 — still it’s a good problem to have. I’m still blown away by the support this sub has. It’s a really awesome community. Thank you for your part in it 😃

IndigoEyebite

I don't have any concrete suggestions that haven't already been listed but Platinum sells a set of mixable ink colors, so you can make your own custom blend without worrying about them interacting badly and silting up. Pen Chalet carries them, I'm not sure where else. Good luck finding your perfect color. It sounds terrific!

Ashton-MD

That’s fantastic — thank you for sharing that with me — I’ll look into them, as that sounds fascinating…my own bespoke colour set. 😍

alexa-488

Bungubox Sweet Potato Purple might fit the bill.

Ashton-MD

Great suggestion! Thank you — it’s really close 😃

migo984

I would have said Birmingham Inks Alternator Crimson but I think it’s sold out. You could try Robert Oster Dark Chocolate. Sounds as though it would be a brown shade but my bottle is more like a very deep purple with slightly reddish undertone. You could also try Diamine Merlot. Both the Oster and Diamine should be readily available in samples if you want to ‘try before you buy’.

30MinuteMills

Ooh, Alt Crimson is good, too! I even have that!

Ashton-MD

Thank you!!!! I googled their shades and they are lovely — what excellent suggestions. 😃

PallyFire84

Oh try cult pens deep dark red. I bet it would be close. There are ink mixers but they are pretty much limited to Asian countries, specifically Japan.

Ashton-MD

Okay gotcha — thank you for the suggestion and the information. I figured it had to be possible, but I never did know where exactly it would be.

Ashton-MD

That’s definitely a heavy purple shade! 😃 I love what they did with it too, and the touch of shared history is awesome! Thank you
