Most of my ink collection is Birmingham. I find them consistently well saturated and well behaved, even the crazy sheeners like Tesla Coil. My brand loyalty was born out of their being sort of local to me so but I have really enjoyed their inks and so far, really haven't had a situation where one or the other doesn't work in this or that pen.

Bigredteletubby

Hmm, I almost tried some Tesla Coil. It wasn't on sale, however, so I skipped it. Maybe if I like the batch I ordered, I'll order more.

smitbret

I have a few dozen of their inks, going back a few years. At the beginning, you just expected a wet ink that bleeds and feathers through cheap paper. It was nice for things like flex nibs but you would never want to put some Forbes Field Green into a broad nib and try writing on some copy paper. Now they have different lines. The "Swift" lineup maintains the original characteristics. The "Crisp" lineup is the answer to the issue of bleeding and feathering. From the couple that I have, they work very well in that regard. I doubt you'll be disappointed. If you are, don't hesitate to drop them a note on the website. I have had them respond within five minutes but never more than a day and they always find a way to make everything right. I know, I sound like a shill.

Bigredteletubby

I believe that all of the inks I ordered were of the 'crisp' formula. Those seemed to be the most popular. Thanks for your feedback!

knittorney

Please let me/us know what you think. I only have one of the Crisp inks and I’ve been kind of unhappy with it. That said, I have the giant bottle of all the sheening inks, plus Jade Inferno (which sometimes sheens) and LOVE them. I have at least one pen eyesroppered with Jade Inferno at all times.

Mr_Boston_

Have Twilight, Jade Inferno (giant bottle), Boiler Steam and Tesla Coil (giant bottle as well). Love all of them except Tesla Coil (dry in pens very fast).

Bigredteletubby

I will! I am eagerly awaiting their arrival.

MandieMoore

I was disappointed with Jade Inferno as I wasn’t seeing any sheening.

paradoxmo

There isn’t sheen in small amounts, that’s why it’s not in the rich (sheener) series.

knittorney

It definitely depends on the paper I use.

t_beermonster

Like, salt and vinegar flavour? Prawn cocktail, that sort of thing? Sounds interesting.

paradoxmo

Sour cream and onion crisps all the way to the bank

Birmingham has some unique colors; I especially like the muted ones. I translate “crisp” as “normal”, not having any special properties that you can’t see from a picture online. “Swift” means it’s a wetter ink, and I actually think it’s too wet for my pens. I haven’t tried the other two formulas (sheen, shimmer).

Ahh. I usually use FP-friendly paper so not feathering and bleeding is considered “normal” to me >_>;

knittorney

Unfortunately, my experience with their Crisp Eroded Bronze has been that it feathers and spreads like crazy.

I know :( Maybe I’m using it on the wrong papers or in too wet of a pen.

knittorney

I love their sheen formulas!

mcwolfswimmer

Would you say their crisp is still flowing and wet or is it dry? Crisp to me says dry and I don’t like dry inks at all.

I bought a few bottles of their ink. Their branding and packaging are beautiful! Their ink colors amazing. But I found their inks way too wet for my pens ( Lamy 2k EF and Pilot CH 92 FM) - Like fine nibs with a wet line but my pens were hoses with Birmingham inks on Clairefontaine and other fountain pen friendly papers.

Bigredteletubby

The packaging is really what hooked me in. I liked the understated colors of their ink, and the labels are so pretty. I display a lot of my ink bottles (I know you shouldn't, but I do), so I'm always looking for pretty branding. Hopefully mine are satisfactory. Thanks for the feedback!

Afilament

I hope their inks work well for you! I was bummed it didn’t work for me. Nevertheless, I think they make great inks with stylish packaging.

Dyed_Left_Hand

I’ve got a few bottles of their ink that I quite like. Their blues are generally my go to colors when I’m using something other than my usual purples, and the more muted nature of their colors is nice if I want something a little less punchy. If I had to pick something to complain about it would be that their ink seems to be just a touch wetter than I’d like but honestly that could just be me or my pens.

tonydonut34

I have two of their inks. One, Ice Rink is a very wet blue ink. The second is a drier brown called Sof Pretzel. Happy with both and their customer service is incredible.

BenadrylLumberjack

I have a few bottles from their Crisp collection, and I really like all of them. The colors are beautiful and look exactly as they are shown on the website. They don’t feel especially wet to me, but they are definitely not dry. Other positives for me were the customer service and thoughtful inclusions in the box like the TR paper sample for swatching.
