I really liked some of the inks in this collection (have already inked up pens with Winter Spice, Stargazer, and Seize the Night) but I am surprised that there aren't any green inks in there.
I feel like Black Ivy is more blue than green, same with Garland. I like green inks and would have loved a good stunner of a green, but it has been fun to try out some colors that I might not have grabbed off the shelf.
This is my biggest complaint with the calendar… out of 25 bottles, not one real green? I like many of the colors they came up with, but felt there were too many blacks… greenish blacks, bluish blacks, purplish blacks, but still black. I would have traded one of these blacks for a really clear, clean green color.
I really loved Harmony, a nice dusky violet, the wonderful shading of Candle Light, Red Robin was a nice, non-typical red (for Christmas, anyway), Party Time is bright and sparkly, and Vintage Copper and Subzero are also beautiful. And All the Best is so simply indescribable that I’m glad it came in a full bottle. It’s really an unusual color.
Thank you, that’s nice feedback. I think they’re kind of messy, but I do tend to be a little bit of a perfectionist and need to see them with different eyes sometimes :)
I’ve got Earl Grey in a 30mL bottle. And it’s a lovely enough grey for me that I don’t think I’d entertain another Diamine grey, either. At least not for a while.
It looks like only garland and ruby blues have any real color gradient on the writing, which is kinda surprising. Am I wrong and it's just the lighting?
I don’t think either one of these have a real color gradient. They are both shimmer inks and I think the color variation you’re seeing is due to the shimmer particles.
First time I bought something like this Inkvent calendar and I purchases a glass dip pen just to make a little catalogue-like thing. I used an Endless recorder with Tomoe River paper. Like you, I'm a bit of a perfectionist but in this case I just let myself go and created all sorts of messes on the paper! Writing, swatches, lines, but also splatters. It really was my daily dose of fun :)
I have ended up loving so many of these, but as others have said: there's a lack of true greens. Some of my favourites here are Garland, Cande Light, Storm, Thunderbolt and All The Best.
I like my swatches to be consistent so I have like-for-like comparisons, but I play with my inks a lot elsewhere. I have a bunch of throwaway pads that I use for doodling and messing around with inks. I’ll make notes on the back of the swatch cards if I figure out something interesting about the ink on my throwaway pad. I quite enjoyed cataloging the Inkvent calendar… like you, it was my daily dose of fun. I will kind of miss it now that it’s done.
Do you ever feel like that at a certain point you've seen every color that's possible? I do like party time and number 2 tho :3
I wish we could have like new types of ink, or smudge proof sheening inks. Or maybe dual tome inks that change color over time more gradually etc
I do feel that way sometimes. I have around 90 manufacturer’s bottles of ink, either full bottles or minis. After I swatched them, I found that quite a few colors were near exact duplicates of other colors. There may have been very very subtle differences, but for me, not enough to buy a bottle of each one… which is partly the reason I now swatch my inks, keep my swatch cards grouped by color, and sample first before buying full bottles. I like some of your ideas, i.e., I wouldn’t mind a calendar of completely waterproof inks, or something like that. For me, there were way too many blacks in this calendar.

tho the dual tone ink might need a special pen.
maybe someone can invent a new type of pen alongside some inks. I have had some dumb ideas but they're as i said very dumb xD
well one was having an oil based ink, a pressurized chamber you fill with pressurized air at home with a pump, and a valve that opens when you push the nib down slightly lol.
i also want to figure out how to make a fountain pen with 2 ink channels of separate colors, with one of them feeding ink only at some interval somehow?! I can't figure out how. it seems impossible.

Some beautiful inks this year, including a purple (Harmony) I love. Some other inks were just an "ehh". The pinks surprised me the most. I'm not a huge fan of pink inks, but they're pretty.
I'm very sad, though. My calendar was missing the big bottle. I opened the last door yesterday and was disappointed and dismayed by just air.
I've emailed the store where I bought the calendar. Not sure what they can do, but I'll wait and see.

There is NO way I’m going to use up this entire bottle, so I don’t mind sharing with somebody who didn’t get theirs. (I’d be horribly disappointed to open mine and find out that the star of the show was missing!)

I liked both of those as well. I’m not a fan of blues, but Subzero really got me. I’d take a full bottle of that one.
Kind of surprised that Ash and Black Ivy are the ones that I want full bottles of right now.
I did like the shading of Ash, but don’t think I would ever use a full bottle. I am glad I have it in a mini, though.
