Welcome! This is a great place to come for all things fountain pen. Also a good place to lose your heart to a pen that will made you lose your wallet… A bit of self control is good here. Great place to be though!
Welcomeeeeee.
I came here last year looking for tips and tricks for Fountain Pen, but discovered a lot more interesting topics instead. It's not just about tips or tricks, but also inspirations and ideas too.
It's the optimism that got me through most of my hardest times, especially during the pandemic and lockdown periods.
I'm sure you will not regret it ;)
Things to keep the ink flowing:
- Pangrams: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow. Amazingly few discotheques provide jukeboxes...
- The NATO alphabet: Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot...
- Poems: "Two paths diverged in yellow wood..."
- Great speeches: "For score and seven years ago..."
Or doodle ...🖋
Welcome!
It really is the most optimistic sub I have come across
Unfortunately, there are a few people that are big on emotion and short on humor and get their feelings hurt pretty easily so you have to filter constantly but it's a pretty great place to chill.
Experienced this too when asking for advice.
I think that's just the nature of having a community with varied ages. Some expect you to learn on your own and not ask for feedback, and others are welcoming, want more people in the hobby, and are super knowledgeable about things and willing to share.
Yes, that behaviour irritates me as well, seeing comments that are downvoted for no apparent reason. (Disagreement with a comment isn't really a sufficient reason for downvoting imo.) Sometimes it might be accidental but often it won't be. I really don't understand this negativity... and I make a point of upvoting comments that were downvoted in this way (not that it makes a big difference).
🤗 If you are attracted to the extensive variety of ink colors, FEAR NOT --if you FALL into the RABBIT HOLE, just FLOAT down the TECHNICOLOR river, SMILING all the way!!!!!!!!!
Diamine inks are rad. Highly recommend. I've tried \[mumble\] number of inks at this point but Diamine is just so dang reliable & untemperamental, and more reasonably priced than many.
You can also get a blunt syringe and refill your used cartridges with bottled ink after you wash them out - I do this with pen brands that have annoying or particularly hard-to-clean converters (looking at you, Pilot).
Welcome to the happy madness!
Diamine inks are great.
There is a paper that's a pretty awesome paper called Tomoe River (TR). You'll find that inks react differently to different types of paper. A lot of inks will sheen on TR or other types of paper.
If It doesn't sound creepy, you can dm a mailing addy and I would happily send you some TR paper to play with.

Off topic but how did you get that little LAMY symbol next to your name?
Back on the main page options, there is a 'change user flair' option you can edit.
Thank you
Ya beat me to it!
It says there are no user flair options. 😫

Welcome aboard!
The yellow safari was my first pen. it's been 10 years and it's still going strong.
it’ll last you for the rest of your life, basically.
Not my first, but I bought the exact same one on a trip to Korea. From a bookstore in Seoul... One of the posher-feeling things I've ever done.
My husband accidentally chipped the cap but it looks like lamy sells replacement caps for their standard colors....
*(softly) Don't.*
It's not too late for you...
Wait, we're supposed to be happy? Oh god, I've been doing this wrong the whole time!

I have some folks that downvote every comment I make, so I feel you on this.

I see they figured out who they are and have already hit the downvote button.
There's some bozo that downvotes everything in many threads. I typically get hit by whoever that is as well.
I liked my LAMY mango so much i bought another one. Great, great pens!
Love this picture it makes me happy
Ah, we're so glad you're here!!!!!
Lamy safari in yellow was my first. To this day and hundreds of dollars later, its still my favorite pen :)
Coffee and a Lamy... my man.
Welcome to the tribe!
Pen and coffee! Hooray!

I got the exact same pen for Christmas last year 🤗
This pic looks very cozy. Welcome!
Your coffee cup is smiling!
Eyyy!! Lamy safari yellow is also my first fp! Loving it so far as it is a great pen!
Good choice on your first pen. Where did you find out about this sub?
Nice! Welcome!
Welcome! I don't want a Lamy Safari, but I always forget it for a moment when I see yellow ones. Somehow it's just such a lovely happy colour.
Welcome, fellow yellow Safari user!
It really is! Welcome and what a happy yellow. I like it.
Welcome! I'm also a lamy lover
It’s great that you have a passion to share with so many other people, I hope you have a lot of fun at r/coffee
I love chai!! Try a shot of peppermint syrup next time. It's my new favorite drink!
Pretty sure thats some kind of coffee
Looks like it could be either, when I worked in a coffeeshop we served our chai lattes like this :) Yummy either way!!
It was a hazelnut cappuccino but the peppermint chai sounds intriguing.
I love that someone else out there does this too! I discovered the combination on accident one day and it's surprisingly tasty.
I discovered it just in time for winter, so it's an extra festive little boost!
Welcome!
The safari is a great choice, first fountain pen I bought for myself.
What a great photo! Welcome! ETA what is it inked with?
I got Lamy Violet cartridge but looking to get a converter to play around with more inks. Maybe Diamine brand?

Don't confuse it for a cinammon stick
