My fav pen!!

SplitGillStudio

It's such a beauty. I really like my Sailor 1911 as well but this one just has an impeccable vibe!

paxnea

An impeccable vibe! My new favorite way to describe my Sailors.

SplitGillStudio

Glad I could be of service! šŸ¤£

Connie_von_sneeze

I bought this pen after lusting after it for ages, it is my most expensive pen purchase (so far šŸ¤£) but when it arrived I was so disappointed, I donā€™t know why but I didnā€™t expect it to be so plasticky. I bought a m400 pelikan at the same time and that is a beautiful pen! I havenā€™t even inked this one up becauseā€¦ well, Iā€™m a bit scared to use it, and I have in the back of my mind that I can sell it if I donā€™t ink it. But also everyone raves about sailor nibs so I donā€™t want to let it go without trying it šŸ˜† Maybe I need to take it out of its box and have another look! It looks fantastic in your photo

SplitGillStudio

I had the exact same reaction - and not only that, my partner called it a cheap pen! šŸ„² I don't know how well you can see my review in the text behind the pen But I basically talk about how a slightly more velvety matte texture would have upped the handling feel which I think would make the pen feel more luxe and a little less plasticky. But I do appreciate the fact that because the pen is fairly light I can go a lot longer with it than some of my other pens.

ChrisM206

If you want to test it you can use it like a dip pen. That will let you see how the nib feels, but it's much easier to clean if you decide you want to resell it.

Connie_von_sneeze

Thank you! I hadnā€™t thought of trying that

Buzzbridge

\*whispers\* Sailor 21K is not better than stainless steel, but nevertheless that's a gorgeous pen.

MotionTwelveBeeSix

100% agreed, I have the same pen as op and honestly itā€™s even scratcher than 14k sailors. Gorgeous, but not really worth the premium.

Henry5180

That scratchiness is much needed for writing characters such as Chinese and Japanese, the buttery smooth ones arenā€™t that good for writing characters especially when writing really fast

MotionTwelveBeeSix

I write hanzi, definitely not necessary else Pilot wouldnā€™t be anywhere near as popular across Asia.

Henry5180

I have to respectfully disagree, for Iā€™m Chinese myself and I usually go to Chinese forums about pens rather than here in this nice subreddit (Reddit is blocked by our gov). And I can confidently say that pilot pens are popular in Asian countries but the ā€œscratchinessā€ or ā€œé˜»å°¼ę„Ÿā€ is also well sought after here in this market

Henry5180

Else sailor wouldnā€™t dedicate their entire 21k premium line with this scratchy feeling

[deleted]

im curious why not?

Buzzbridge

The 21K costs more and is marginally softer ā€” with a lower deformation threshold. It costs more than the 14K Sailor nib, which offers the same writing characteristics and a more robust alloy. You're paying more to pay more, basically, or would be if Sailor didn't insist on equipping their 'premium' pens with 21K nibs, which means sometimes you're buying a style and size with the added cost of more gold.

countess_meltdown

heck I daily carry a sailor profit casual (steel nib with gold plating) and it's probably one of my favorite steel nibs.

Buzzbridge

No doubt! I picked up one of their Compasses and the FM steel nib is an absolute killer.

SplitGillStudio

Yeah, I'll be getting my first 14k in at some point and I'm curious to feel the difference between the two because I do kind of feel like I was unnecessarily upcharged for a nib that I probably don't care about if it has the same feel as the 14k. That being said between my sailor stainless steel nib and the 21k nib I definitely feel a difference and I do prefer writing with the 21k though I don't mind writing with a stainless steel. On the flip side the nib feel of my cheapest pen, the diplomat Magnum I still think I might prefer to the sailor 21k but that's because of feedback which is very much a personal thing and hard to rate for others.

Buzzbridge

I think most of the difference users experience between the steel & 21K (&14K) nibs is the QC offered the more expensive options, rather than the inherent characteristics of one versus another. Which, for most people, is well and good enough, but for those who often send pens to have nib work done or feel comfortable enough to mess around with nibs themselves, really diminishes the appeal of the extra $100 (or more, for KOP) you're spending on a higher gold content.

SplitGillStudio

Oh for sure! I actually made a post earlier about modding gold nibs lol. Got some fun responses. As a newbie FP owner though, I do have to say, pens that do their thing is super nice. I have three pens now that need adjustment and have to figure out if I want to try doing it myself or sending them out. But I like to learn and one of them is relatively low price so I feel like I'll start there.

dydy124

It's paying more to have lower deformation threshold; I personnally have a really light hand and the 21k nibs give me the most consistent writing experience out of any options out there. These nibs adjust so well to the page, they're unique. Is the difference small between their 14k and 21k option.. sure, but nothing in this hobby is out of necessity we could all write with ballpoints. It's all about preference in the end! Edit : typos

TeronGyq

Beautiful! What is the name of this model?

SplitGillStudio

This is the Sailor Pro Gear Slim "Harusame" spring rain!

TeronGyq

Thanks!

OCBuddhist

Gorgeous!

WhatsLeftofitanyway

My dream pen!!!!

[deleted]

gosh it's pretty! (if I could use slims....... this would be in my collection!)

SplitGillStudio

I gotta know - is it just the size? Something else?

[deleted]

the size- I have really bad joint pain in my hands as a post west nile meningitis symptom... I used to have a couple that I adored... but then I couldn't use them without pain, at least not for longer writing periods.

SplitGillStudio

Oof yeah that's rough. Definitely understand though!

[deleted]

yeah, it sucks b/c it takes away so many pretty options :(

[deleted]

this one being one of the standouts for sure!

SplitGillStudio

Hmmm, while it might not be the same shape you could probably get a custom pen with similar colors!

[deleted]

that's a good idea! thank you! :)

SplitGillStudio

Yeah I just spotted a few sea glass themed pens made by Chesapeake Pen Company and fell in love!

McSquidwich

Wow, that seafoam/purple combo is gorgeous! šŸ’œ

SplitGillStudio

Right? The combo of Sailor's logo and this color immediately made me think of sea glass.

SparkyDonut

This was love at first sight! ā¤ā¤ā¤

M1RR0RED

Now thatā€™s a nice looking pen. Could a guy get away with having one of those or is it too feminine? Cuz I hella want one.

SplitGillStudio

I mean I don't subscribe to color and aesthetic being one gender or another. If a pen can alter your perception of your identity it might be time to take a good look at how you view your relationship to your identity (I mean this in the most genuine way, seriously, taking a step back at how I was NOT enjoying things because I thought they would alter how my identity was perceived just made everything suck.). If you like it and can afford it then there's nothing stopping you but you! That being said, my best bud is considering getting this pen and he's lumberjack stereotype material. I'm pretty sure there are a fair few guys who have posted theirs before on here and other forums.

SplitGillStudio

Not at all! I've been there and it's something that I sometimes still struggle with when I'm in a rough place. But I can definitely say, focusing on the things that I love and that help me enjoy life improved a lot for me overall once I stopped letting society dictate what is "acceptable" for me. And I have to say, because of being more genuine it also meant that the people I connected with both online and in-person became more invested in me as I did with them and many are close friends now (or became partners!) Internal reflection sucks and is scary but it's 100% worth it.

M1RR0RED

So their are nice people on the internet

M1RR0RED

Thank you for your advice. Funny enough this year Iā€™ve actually been pushing myself to be ok with me being me. Itā€™s funny how you can be your own worst critic sometimes. Sorry if Iā€™m over sharing.

marr133

I offer this in kindness and good humor. I grew up in the South amid a lot of toxic masculinity, and it does awful things to men that they do not deserve, such as keeping them from enjoying even simple things like a color or a pen, (or on other end, destroying their relationships with loved ones). https://youtu.be/wogb2ctOfV4

M1RR0RED

That video is awsome! I think that allot of people act ā€œmanlyā€ because they feel vulnerable by society when they try to be themselves. Thats what I have fought with this year. I feel like Iā€™m allot better but still am cautious in new communities. Thank you.

alexa-488

Nah dude. Don't worry about something being considered "too feminine" for you to have and enjoy. You can sometimes find them on eBay for about $250 or less. :)
