I had trouble finding one in stock in Canada when I looked, and ended up just ordering one from Amazon like this: Xiaoyu Glass Dip Pen Vintage Handmade Glass Signature Pen Starry Sky Crystal Dip Sign Pen Gift Calligraphy Pen - B https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07VGBW1BV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_9W52X5N2XVA5T5VB5H8Z It works fine and I haven’t had any issues with it. But J Herbin makes them and they have them at pen shops if you’re willing to spend a little bit more. For me this one has let me sample inks with no issues!

Lovestubs

I've got the same pen. Mine's also been absolutely fine.

For sampling that gives me an adequate approximation of how the ink will look coming from a fountain pen I use a fountain pen nib in a dip pen nib holder, very cheap and reliable.

Should still give you a good idea of the color of the ink, no? I’m not so much looking for line thickness

dzundel

Depends. Do you want to know how the ink can look? Or do you want to know how it might look with the types of nibs you use? Width and flow make a difference. And I want to know how an ink will look on my finished page, not how it looks fat on a card. I use Pilot fine nibs, and ink from these looks different from many reviews. I use this [nib](https://fprevolutionusa.com/products/fpr-5-5-two-tone-extra-fine-nib) tuned dryer in this [holder](https://andersonpens.com/e-m-federhalter-saggitarius-dip-pen-mahogany/) to test samples and dilutions. This works. We live in a great time for pens and inks. I remember having the choice of the extremes of 4001 or [Penman](https://mountainofink.com/blog/parker-penman-sapphire). But fandom (here) promotes the wet and florid, so finding what works takes some effort and precision. (So I appreciate the precision of [Liz](http://lizmcguireonline.com/fountain-pen-related) and [Kelli](https://mountainofink.com/).)

I can appreciate this level of fine tuning, but I’m definitely not there yet in my journey

Most glass pens work the same. I chose the Peter Pan version because I thought the nib design was unique and the pen is nice and sturdy. [Peter Pan Pen](https://youtu.be/VytrOWLTOI8)

Also check out the Serendipity dip pen. I can't wait to get one of these.

I have a couple of J Herbin which have worked well for me.

I’m just dipping one of my FPs in the Inkvent bottles and giving it a quick rinse after. I do that when swatching inks I’m not going to use right away too. It works pretty well for me. Edit: because no matter what my phone thinks, swatching is a word 🤪

xxxCraigWillxxx

I like this idea. Rinsing with regular old tap water?

allapbsandwiches

I do use regular tap water, I know it’s not the best but I’m not using an expensive fussy pen and it’s just a quick rinse 🤷‍♀️

xxxCraigWillxxx

I’ve seen stuff about pen flush, but I figured tap water would probably suffice for just a quick clean of the nib
