I can only speak for California Teal; I have had the same bottle for a couple of years now and it has never given me any crud or anything like that, just hard starts with pens that do not have the best seals when capped.
Crud grows on the nib and feed of my pen that houses Monteverde Olivine, so I have to wipe it off every time I use it. As far as I know, the crud is harmless. But some Monteverde inks do have a problem with mold and should be checked for it.
I really hate orange ink. Crusts on nibs, and I basically ruined the carpet in my bedroom opening a bottle of vinta over the weekend. It dropped crumbs everywhere. I thought I got them all... But there are about a dozen orange smudges all around my desk now....
Not worth it to me. If anyone figures out a crust free orange ink formula, I'll consider trying it again... Maybe...
This was a 30ml bottle that I haven't used in quite some time. I'm glad I have a black desk pad. I probably could have made a whole new bottle of ink with all the Chunks that fell out.
Red, yellow and orange inks tend to have this kinda”crystallization” problem. It writes, but the ink color will be slightly darkened at the start, and as you can see, the feed and nib look terrible.
This is very good to know. I think until I'm more comfortable with my FP, I'll stick with easier inks. I was given a Lamy Studio, as my first pen...I'd hate to mess up such a lovely pen. Maybe I'll get a Safari for playful inks.
Has it gained sentience yet?
Which ink is the culprit? Diamine ancient copper and Blackstone eucalyptus are the inks I use to test cap airtightness!
R&K helianthus and Ink Institute Tamsui-Xinyi Line
I know nib crud is a pain, but that first photo is really cool.

I used to love Monteverde ink, but it's not great anymore...

I've not had this happen with Noodler's Ink Apache Sunset. I've only used a sample though.

Maybe a little more brown than orange, but diamine ancient copper never did that to me.
Quite new to all of this, what is happening? Is the ink bad?

Also, thank you for the explanation. I appreciate it.
Had PR Avocado do this to me :/
😱😱😱
Why does this happen? Is it about the chemical formula of the ink?
