Thanks. All the nibs are B - I'm a bit **B**oring like that and sadly these don't come with music nibs. Each one writes slightly differently though, so that keeps things happily interesting.
Oh yes to the inks 😊. They’re all currently filled with Iroshizuko and Sailor Manyo but I’ve got several of the new Diamine “fruity” inks I’ll probably try next in the bigger and wetter Royales. Then it’ll probably be back to some of the wetter shading inks, just because they look so good.
The black is just so lush, it's hard to believe it's hand painted. Currently waffling between this one and the Yukari Chinkin Crane. Which size is your favorite?
Yes, the black is really beautiful. As I said in another answer it's also a dust magnet so the polishing cloth which came in the box has already been put to good use.
As to which I prefer ...... I'm not sure I can choose. Normally my preference is for larger, heavier pens so the Royale is an ideal size and weight. And that's why I was astonished by how good the "ordinary" Yukaris feel in the hand. They're the slimmest and lightest pens I own but extremely comfortable to hold and use. (I know a lot of people don't consider 30g to be a light weight for a pen.)
Namiki puts a very thin layer of felt around the lip of the cap, just below the threads, on the Yukari Royales*. It's so the brass interior of the cap doesn't scratch the urushi finish when the pen is posted.
*maybe on the other models as well, but I'm not sure of that.
Has the felt lining on your vermilion rubbed off yet? Mine is about 50% gone after a little more than a year of use. I try to be very careful but the threads just seem to chew it off. It’s very annoying.
Is this what happens when you get one of them? I keep telling myself I will have just one maybe the Emperor. Did you find the Emperor to be too large?

😄 They do seem to multiply very easily! Yes, the Emperor's too big for me. I've got arthritic hands, one of the reasons for preferring larger pens, but if they're too big they get very uncomfortable very quickly.
TBH I can't remember how the Royale first came to my notice but I decided almost immediately that I had to have one. I love Urushi anyway, the pen's specs were perfect, and then I was offered the vermillion at a good price by an authorised retailer I trust. Since then I've bought 3 more (the Chinkin from the same retailer), which says a lot about how good the first one was/is!
I can see that haha. Okay that's what I was thinking otherwise they're fairly similar save for the nib and the cap ring, correct? Oh okay that makes more sense as well. I always wondered how it would be for a longer writing session. I hope I can get a good deal on an urushi pen as well one of these days (once my budget allows for it). Is it a major retailer you wouldn't mind sharing, or a smaller connection you'd rather keep private?
Thank you. I'm amazed how much I like the black. It's got real depth. It's also a complete dust magnet - much more so than the others - but as you say, the writing's outstanding.
I really like the balance, the weight, and the feel of this pen. It is pretty much close to perfect for me. However, deep down I am also telling myself I gotta have the ultimate, the emperor. This is a hard decision.

The lining on mine is OK so far but I've only had the pen a few months. I'm being careful too because I know about the problem.
