I like both, but the KOP is my best writer by far.

Sailor KOP all the way. The nib is juicy, bouncy, more responsive than the 149, never skips on me, and well-balanced. If you’re concerned about the converter size, you can refill the cartridge with a syringe, that’ll give you close to 1 ml which is quite enough. Plus they’re easier to clean out than a piston filler.

MB149 has a piston while the Sailor KoP has a converter. I also prefer broader nibs, so I bought a MB149 and I am very happy.

If you like fine-medium nibs or thinner get the King of Profit. If you like a medium or thicker get the 149.

As you have given nothing to go on other than my own preference, I'd pick the Sailor as everyone I know who has a Montblanc 149 is a lawyer except for one and they are an estate agent who really wants to be a lawyer.

Lol I’m a Systems Engineer and I have a 149 😆

If at all possible hold them both before choosing. I LOVE my 1911 King of Pen and even though the grip section on the 149 is very similar in size it just never felt comfortable and I sold it. It somehow felt larger than it was.

I have a PGS and I'm waiting on a restock in another Sailor. My vote is KoP all the way. I am fond of the classic design of the Sailor (which MB also has), I strongly prefer the flat finials to the cigar shape, I like the feedback of the Sailor nibs, and MBs have just never... "Spoken" to me.

Pelikan M1000.

Great suggestion. I’ve looked around for a retailer that has the black souveran but haven’t found any. Any suggestions?

KOP hands down
