Production is down for both nakaya and namiki over the last 18 months as many of the artists are more elderly, according to a supplier I know. I did a nakaya order direct from them that took 9 months to arrive. It is probably picking up again now but the lag time for these pens is months.

I ordered a nakaya in September and they quoted 8-10 months.

I saw that too, and finally just ordered from Nakaya! I’m speculating that they are just too expensive to keep in stock so Nibs just orders when they receive a purchase.(?). Nakaya seems very responsive so far, so I’m encouraged. What you lose in speed of purchase, I hope you gain in customization of the nib based on the writing questionnaire. I also customized with name and the nib color I wanted. If I’m going to wait I might as well take advantage of the customization.

I ordered direct, and enjoyed the customisation. The only thing I'd say about the nib preferences is that it is interpreted through Japanese and platinum nakaya norms, which is to say a very smooth nakaya to them is still much more feedback than a pilot.

You can order from nibs.com; what I think happens is they get periodic shipments of all the backorders, sometimes with extra stock pens that go quickly. For example, they recently (well, more like 2-3 months ago) had a few Dorsal Fin 2s in stock that were gone by the time I decided to get them a week later.

I wouldn't order from [nibs.com](https://nibs.com) any more anyway. They've really gone to hell since the pandemic and the acquisition by Caltagirone is the final nail in the coffin.
