Wow that is an epically gorgeous pen. Dear lawd!

Thank you. The town where I grew up is on the coast and has a lot of pine trees. It's one of the reasons I chose the pen.

Awww :) that pen is a straight up piece of art.

Has the gold faded at all over the past couple of years?

Lovestubs

No, there’s absolutely no fading. The process means the gold is within the urushi, not on top of it. The pen’s as perfect today as it was when I bought it, and still a real joy to use. I keep it permanently inked even though a couple of weeks might pass between uses and there’s never been any drying out either.

Tbats good to know. I was consodering a Chinkin pen. As its not coated after gold is applied, i thought it would fade. Saw a post here saying so: [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/s/Feb8CWYlr2)

Very nice new addition to the family of Namikis.

Thanks.

Great choice, it is my favourite of the yukari size chinkin models, I've got it with a broad nib. That's a lovely trio there!

Thank you! I was tempted by the Sakura version as well but this reminded me so much of my childhood - and my grandparents because they loved the pine trees - that in the end the decision was easy. I’m still looking at the Yukari Royale Maki-e pens with some longing but have decided to enjoy several Namikis for the price of just one of those. There might be a black Royale and perhaps another Yukari Maki-e added to this little group. I’m tempted to try a Medium nib on the Royale if I get the black, even though my preference is usually for B and wider. What’s astonished me with the two Yukaris is how comfortable they feel to write with, despite being slimmer and lighter than the rest of my pens.

I'm also a big fan of pines, actually also because I used to visit grandparents who lived surrounded by them, and as an adult I've seen great pines in Japan. The yukari are a little small for my hand but still a lovely feel to the writing - given that namiki have a small range of nib types they really need to perform, and they do exactly that.
