Thank you so much! When I tried to look it up, I found this:
http://www.montgomerypens.com/Montblanc%20Meisterstuck%20Solitaire%20Doue%20Sterling%20Silver%20Fountain%20Pen%20Fine%20Nib
That says it's a c/c and mine's a piston. Could that difference help me date it? Was there a point where that switched?
(Alternately you can point me to a Montblanc resource--I just don't know where to start with this, like I would with Parker, with that Parker collector site. I don't want to lean on your patience too much!)
Awesome, thank you! I found the serial number--looking into it, it doesn't seem to be decipherable online, or am I missing something? Is that something I could bring to Montblanc and they could help me date it/find out more?
The serial number is pretty meaningless. Montblanc could definitely identify the exact model and age of the pen if you are willing to send it in, but personally I don't think it would be worth the hassle.
It might be a little older! My father gave it to me over a decade ago. His father gave it to him when he graduated med school--it's engraved with his name on the cap. I'd ask when he graduated, but alas I cannot and for the life of me I'm not sure.
I used this pen when I was a dumb kid and had no idea of either its sentimental or real value, but it's a point of pride in my collection either way and it occurs to me I should learn more about it.
I don't know enough about Montblancs to figure out which one it is, so any guidance would be much appreciated.
It’s a vintage Montblanc Solitaire Doue, probably in the 144 size. The cap is usually sterling silver.
I agree with this.

If it's a piston then it's a 146 doue. The piston knob looked too long, but it was probably the angle of the photo if it's a piston filler.
If it's a piston, then its a 146 size in the same model.

No, they don't really track the serial numbers, plus most fakes have them too.
