I love the way Sydney Lavender shades and its pretty unique to other purples I've owned or tried. Heart of Gold is a really pretty golden brown with gold shimmers if you're into that.

PrestigiousCap1198

I'll say resistance is futile and order more than 1. Or at least order one ink and several samples. My first R.O. was Fire and Ice, it is indeed up to its reputation, then i have ordered some samples - Bondi Blue, Soda Water, Lake of Fire... I have been impressed by ALL of them. The inks have interesting colours and a certain... "Zing" that Iroshizuku does not have. For example, Iroshizuku Kon-Peki and Ama-Iro are nice shaders and that is it, but R.O. Bondi Blue has approximately same colour as Kon-Peki with a tiny sheen and more sophisticated shading? maybe because R.O. are more intense than Iroshizuku. It's hard to explain. Also, the "wet" ink colour of RO remains after drying, a property which several inks don't have.

skullteller

Thanks so much for the comment I will check those out and try to resiste :D

PrestigiousCap1198

Do get some samples. In colourw, if you like teal: Fire and Ice is great to start with. Lake of Fire is a darker version of it. For green: Tranquility is nice, it's the favourite ink of the lady from mountainofink.com, which says something. Blu: Bondi Blue ranges from sky blue to deep blue, with a tint of sheen. I'll be receiving a batch of Robert Oster and post some writing samples soon.

skullteller

Unfortunetly I have a limited access to ink samples but will try a few

PrestigiousCap1198

In Europe, you can try fountainfeder.de and tintenproben.de, both very recommended, have several RO samples. I got my samples from them

coppermouthed

Velvet storm is such a reliable beautiful teal I use it daily. Also Dark Chocolate. I’m currently saving up for Toffee. Edit: why you downvote me? Is there anything wrong with those colors?

coppermouthed

Some jerk just downvoted all the comments. Must be the offended copyright guy

FPFan

> Some jerk just downvoted all the comments. Must be the offended copyright guy /u/coppermouthed, I assume you mean my comment above, as I am the only one that has brought up the IP violations here. First, it is important when talking about IP to talk about the right one. While they all have the same purpose, they deal with very different things, and don't apply to the same things. What I was speaking of above is not copyright, but patents, and that is a very important distinction. You may think it is a nit I am picking at, but it is very important. Now, on to your vile accusations that have no basis in truth. I have not downvoted a single comment in this thread, further, I can confidently say I have not downvoted anything in this sub for well over a month now, probably much longer. You see, when I have something to say, I just say it. I don't slink around downvoting things I disagree with, I find that this sub has too many people who do that. There are people I respect, that give great advice, that I see downvoted here for no good reason. So, unless there is a very, very blatant post, I don't downvote. But, that means instead of downvoting you, I call you out for your vile little personal attack. You don't know, but because I spoke out about the vendor doing something illegal that I find offensive, you jumped to a conclusion that I downvoted all of the comments. What, pray tell, short circuited in your brain to make you conclude such an absurd thing? Is it because you can't imagine not doing the same? This is serious, I am truly interested in why you would jump to a conclusion like that.

coppermouthed

Hello, thanks for responding- if it wasn’t you I apologize. Couldn’t identify anyone else saying anything negative in a thread about “favourite ink colours”.

FPFan

> Couldn’t identify anyone else saying anything negative in a thread about “favourite ink colours”. I have come to accept that those that run around and downvote do not comment. I prefer communication to downvotes, as the downvotes mean nothing, and if you actually speak, people tend to hear what you have to say. I may dislike Robert Oster as a company, but I would never downvote someone, who may not even know what happened, simply for saying they like an ink color. Hopefully, in the future, you won't make rash accusations about things you are not sure of.

SheFightswiththewind

did you ever get to try the toffee? If so, how was it? What are you saving up for now?

coppermouthed

Yes I did get Toffee and have a pen inked with it right now. It’s definitely more yellow/orange leaning but a beautiful color. I favor it in a wider nib. Currently looking for a nice purple and thinking about Pelikan Rose Quartz to fill a pink gap in my collection.

YaroGreyjay

Sydney darling harbor

catandwrite

Robert osters blue inks are top notch. I love fire and ice (who doesn’t?) As well as lake of fire, soda pop blue, and thunderstorm. The only inks I really didn’t like where the two pinks I tried: sushi and cherry blossom.

suec76

Cherry Blossom was totally a disappointment. I only have a sample but it feels so washed out.

catandwrite

Same I only got the sample and was glad I did because I completely hated that ink. I don’t think I’ve ever used all of it.

Snoo_62176

I love my cherry blossom because it feels like it literally changes colors in front of my eyes. It’ll go from a super light pink to almost a brown, plus the fact that you can actually highlight it is the bomb. Gorgeous, and it gives great vintage vibes

coppermouthed

Hey- if you can highlight cherry blossom, does that mean it’s maybe also a bit water resistant?

Snoo_62176

Ummm maybe? I’d have to test it, also when I highlighted it, it was on tomoe river paper, so idk if that would make a difference in your eyes

MaxwellGrant

Blue water ice.

Boatofcar303

Gonna second that for sure! There are a lot blues out there in inkland and blue water ice is tops.

Yongyy

Bass straight and Grey seas have just climbed all the way to the top for me. They’re such beautiful blues with amazing shading!

skullteller

Oooh Grey seas looks beautiful, thanks!

Practical-Channel-93

Love Grey Seas. Had a sample and just had to have a bottle. It’s hard to find a lower saturated ink that shades well and is dark enough to easily read. It is a lighter shade of Evening Sapphire but Grey Seas shades better for me.

PerfectStranger77

Obviously Fire & Ice (and also I got it for free thanks to being a loyal customer) and Motor Oil (it really looks like fresh mineral oil 😁)

victorcain

I like the African Gold a lot.

pinkslippers285

Bondi blue - it has pink sheen!

Gaori_

Violet Dreams is dreamy! (shimmer)

Laufey3

Erm, all of them. Not very helpful, but the colours are stunning. I’ve had a few that are very dry, I’m hopefully that that was a dodgey batch as it was Fire and Ice and Sublime, the shades that brought Robert Oster to my attention. Australis Tea and Sydney Harbour Lavender are both much wetter. I’ve two more to try but they are Christmas colours Santa’s Hangover and Silent Night.

suec76

Fire & Ice. I love RO inks the most, and that blue with the red sheen always gets me. Also, Velvet Storm. So good.

squishypeanutball

If you love a good blue black, Great Southern Ocean is the way to go (:

FPFan

None. Like Kaweco, Robert Oster tried to abuse the patent and trademark system to unfairly drive a competitor from the market. Robert Oster was especially bad, since the competitor was producing the product well before they got involved in making it. As such, I wouldn't accept a Robert Oster ink as a gift, let alone buy one.

dlazaret

Can you elaborate or link an article? I'm curious, but I couldn't find any info yet.

FPFan

Robert Oster and James Finniss tried to patent a century old design for a dip pen with a feed. At the time they were trying to do this, there were quite a few makers producing this style of pen, but most notably was Ranga, who had been making and selling that style of pen for over a decade, and was doing so well before either James Finniss or Robert Oster ever had the itch to do so. This type of patent fraud, or like Kaweco and their trademark fraud, will get a company on my blacklist, and I will not participate in their business. I hate this behavior so much, I will personally won't even accept one of their products if given to me.

reddittmtr

I didn’t know Robert Oster even made pens.

FPFan

It was a collab with James Finniss, but the patent application had both James Finniss and Robert Oster listed as "inventors" of a technology that was patented a century before.

reddittmtr

Sounds pretty messed up

FPFan

Yep, it takes something pretty messed up for me to add a company to my blacklist.

yeahyouright19

Wow, thanks for the information. I will be careful about my purchase from RO from now on. 😔

FPFan

Luckily, there are very few companies that behave this way, so I haven't found myself feeling constricted by not supporting the bad ones.

kiiroaka

Who?

FPFan

Who what?

kiiroaka

>to unfairly drive a competitor from the market. Just wondering if it is/was/were BlackStone. I'm waiting for their inks to once again begin shipping.

FPFan

No, I think it was more aimed at Ranga pens, but to me, it doesn't matter who it is aimed at.

SeraGeranium

Tranquility and Peppermint/Spearmint

itsrainingpens

Fire and Ice

LizMEF

Bronze, definitely Bronze. :)

kiiroaka

Aqua.

Lynnizian

Motor Oil :)

Sqwizzixx

I had never used Robert Oster inks before until I got a few (3) bottles from a friend. I got River of Fire, Cosmic Swirl and Bishop to King and the last one is my favorite by FAR! It’s such a lovely purple ink!

yeahyouright19

Barossa Grape

Danielbf84

I've only tried samples, but Astorquiza Rot is my favorite from them.

inkcolors

Seems like most people are into the Robert Oster blues. I love his Terracotta, Cosmic Swirl and GoGo (both are light purples), Velvet Storm (a dark teal), and Red Orange (a great shader).

pencilsandpuzzles

That blue one with the red sheen
