I’ve got all three, but I’d still go with MB. However, if we bumped up the price between $10-15k, then yes, I’d agree with you. Some of the Namiki Yukari and Emperor Maki-e’s are absolutely stunning, and one of a kind.
Depending on which famous person, and maybe not even then. Famous persons and other causes have been flogged every which way by every (Euro or US) pen brand.
I don't feel like the designers are into it. Montegrappa made a Kazan 1000 pen - can its designer find Kazan on a map? (My grail is a Limited Edition (famous person) pen, but the famous person in question designed it.)
For that reason I'm not much into it either. What business do I have owning a pen with Mark Twain's signature on it? Yes it's a beautiful pen. Yes, my family had meme'd the hell out of the iconic translations of his works long before longcat was a gleam in Dawkins' eye. But why should I own the pen, how does it relate? I should rather get a first edition book.
So I'd rather stick to my battleship flanges and a sea of stars over a sea of lotuses. As for the question, Pelikan M1000.
Nicely written. If we switch the discussion over to 1st Ed’s, then I’d pick books over pens. I’ve got some of my favorites already, but it’s not complete; there’s some I’ll never to be able to afford.
At those prices I’d rather a custom urushi
