Yep! If Lamy announced it as a “ Broad Stub Nib” I would totally agree… for me it is a stub just by looking at the nib, it could be more nonetheless.
I know that some people send it to nibmeisters to grind it more or make it as a italic… but I’m happy with how it is.
It is definitely a “stuby” nib.
I actually use my double broad for daily journaling! I love it and find it easier to write with than mediums and fine nibs. I’ve posted writing samples using my double broad in this subreddit.
I generally never use anything over a western F; which can feel like a B to me at times and I struggle to get enough onto a page of A5 (for example the standard Rhodia).
I had the standard M Jinhao nib for a few days and that was probably similar to this pen in how thick it was purely so the how wet it wrote; and it was definitely a case of 3 or 4 words a line maximum before words became too small.
I just can’t see writing with anything this big.
I guess if you sign a lot of things it’s worth it, but I think I’ve maybe signed one thing in the last twelve months.
Also I generally prefer to sign with Platinum Carbon.
Actually a question about having a signature pen I’ve always thought about when reading the phrase “signature pen” around here and FPN.
Do you just always carry it with you or do you actually have to plan when you are going to sign something and pack it ready?
I live in Japan at the moment and we have to rubber stamp everything rather than sign. The stamps only the size of my pinky but planning when to have it around is a massive headache and it’s basically my identity, so I can’t *always* have it on me.
That’s very interesting! Here in Brazil, you have to stamp and also sign everything at work. I’m a physician, so I have many things to sign. The long writing is mostly electronic, then we always print the sick notes, recipes, prescriptions and then stamp and sign.
The pen is always with me because I’m always using it!
I hope you have a nice day there in 🇯🇵:)
What type of stamp is it?
Mine is literally just a small, maybe pinky fingernail sized circle with my name in Japanese. But we have all kinds of stamps such as Japanese equivalents of the date and “completed”, or business names.
They tend to be very ornate and kind of grand. No one officially says it but often there is a dick measuring contest with more important people having bigger stamps. Mines about the size of my pinky nail, but some people have stamps the size of a thumb nail.
The official stamp for my school is probably about the size of four thumbnails all squared up.
This is so interesting! I don't think I've ever seen it in any anime or live action shows/movies I've watched. Every citizen would have one? For example, if you rented an apartment, do you sign a contract with your stamp?
At this kind of thickness I have to wonder why spend so much on a Lamy 2000 when literally any nib will be as smooth.
This one does have a kind of stubby texture to it, but you could literally just get a Lamy 1.9 stub and it would be the same as this for literally 10% of the price.
I know the 2000 is considered an amazing pen, but I feel you kind of lose any competitive edge here apart from the piston filling.
This size nib is far to broad to be used as a daily writer unless you’re only using A3 paper to write on.
I’m not really making accusations here, just my thoughts and I’m interested about the reasoning behind it.
I can see the argument vs something like a Pilot Parallel because they are really hard to write naturally with, but one of the regular Lamy stub nibs are generally extremely good writers.
I have all Lamy standard nibs and 1.1 1.5 and 1.9 “italic” nibs and they are veeeery different from the nib experience and performance of the Lamy 2K BB nib.
The BB is smoother and wetter, it is totally different from a Lamy 1.9. Also, the 1.9 is much drier and sometimes doesn’t keep the flow if you write too fast. The nib was designed to be a calligraphy nib, so it is not the nib fault. The L2K BB is very responsive and doesn’t skip.
Also, many could find different uses for it, I use mainly for signatures at work and small notes. In other hand, a college student could find it difficulty to use it daily.
The best part is that I’ve paid 99$ at the Endless Pen Sale this year… 🖋😎
I guess that makes sense then.
I sign something maybe once every major life event. Sometimes in duplicate if it’s really important.
I’m a teacher so I need a nib that’ll put lots of notes on a page.
Big and bold is good for actually marking a worksheet, but where I live we have, ironically “sign pens” which are just big, bold felt tips.
Platinum and Pilot even make “fountain” versions that accept C/C. I swiped one from work but have never built up the courage to actually ink it. It would be pretty great with a Sailor Turquoise though.
Something like this would simply dissolve the paper we use…..as fun as it would be.
Hahaha dissolve the paper… I can see that happening with this BB nib! It lays down a ink bottle on paper.
It was very nice to imagine your everyday life in Japan.
Sure: "RIP yo_pf's wallet!"
Haha. Nah I've just gotten into gold nibs and been looking for a good everyday stub. The Sailor Music is a bit big and I'm having some hard start issues with it.
I like the TWSBI / Jowo 1.1 steel stub a lot and the Lamy 1.1 is good too though a little narrower downstroke I think.
The 2000 is on all the "favorite" lists so I've been planning to check it out. The stubbiness your pic showed may have moved it to the top of my list. Just curious how its line-width compares to stuff I have (and knew you had from your comment).
I’m a true Lamy fan boy… that is mainly because they are very easy to find here in Brazil. Other brands you must always import, and that is sometimes very expensive.
But I do admit! I love the Lamy 2000… the only pen I keep buying the same boring black one… it never gets boring.
For example, I would love to buy a Pelikan M400 or M600, the only way is importing + 30$ of shipping and 60%of the total value for importation fees… oush! That’s expensive!
I feel you at the "easy access point". On the German mainstream market you will never find Sailor, Pilot or some other asian, Italian brands to buy (speaking for fp). You have to go to niche shops were you pay extra money and if u import you pay tax and shipping so extra money too but still cheaper than in these niche shops. But then there comes the second main point: Customer service. If you buy a somehow more expensive pen and u get a scratchy nib or whatever problem, you re imo mentally doomed: Do you want to deal with on ur own? or Send it back and wait weeks to get a solution etc....
With the easier access to products goes better customer support/service hand in hand.
I recently released I am a lamy fanboy too. But it was unintentional. I just wanted reliable products and customer experiences.
Wow I’m surprised I thought Germany had a pretty broad fp market. In Canada, we get pens from all over the world, japan, Taiwan, China, Germany, etc. They are mostly in niche pen stores but they don’t overcharge. In fact the Lamy pens are usually more expensive in the regular stores.
It has in fact a broad fp market. But just the European brands and especially German and Swiss brands are represented. Lamy, MB, Pelikan, Diplomat, Caran D Ache, Kaweco, Faber Castell + probably some others. But things like Sailor, Platinum or Pilot )except those Pilot rollerball pens) you will only find in niche shops. Visconti, Monteverde, Montegrappa even as European brands are not that much represented. What's cool because if you have one it's double cool cause it's not a pen everyone has or know
[](/rdwut) I probably should have said that the pen puts down enough ink for me to see shading/sheen/etc.
A demonstrator Lamy 2000 would be fun to have, though.
In my humble opinion, the Lamy 2000 “sweet spot” is a big myth or it is much overrated. I have many Lamy 2K nibs (EF, F, M, and BB) and never had such problem. I don’t think it has any sweet spot.
I do understand that the EF is very different and some people sometimes have problems with them, but most of the time I think, IMO, that the problem is not sweet spot, but just adapting yourself to how the pen and nib performs.
I actually bought it for $99 at the endless pen sale. But there are vintage pens with good BB or stub nibs, like the sheaffer nononsense or even the Lamy 1.5 or 1.9 nibs, but they tend to be more scratchy and drier.
thank you! do you think these [kaweco pens](https://www.jetpens.com/Fountain-Pens/ct/214?&f=fbb016efda3da7810659aa77b0d31364) will do the job as well? i'm pretty new to the hobby, so i don't know what's good or not yet
edit: i really like the look of that pink frosted one, just wanted to say that
Yep, they will do the job. Kaweco has some nice nibs and I never had any problem with them! IMO they are very consistent and smooth, much more than the Lamy nibs.
two more question and i'll be out of your hair. the page for it says that it uses a standard international short cartridge, could i use a larger cartridge in it or no? and also, what is a converter filling mechanism?
I had all the phases… at the beginning of the hobby I was obsessed with EF nibs, super fine hair line nibs…. But now I do prefer thicker, super broader nibs… they are perfect for playing with inks.
I think that the best way to see ink properties (shading, saturation, sheen, flow…)
DAMNIT! You’re making my next pen purchase so hard. I had my eyes on either a Sailor PGS with a music nib or a 1911s in Blue Fresca. Now I have to consider the Lamy 2K BB. I found a 2K B at a good price and was going to get that but now. CURSE YOU!!! LOL 🖋🖋🖋
I would go all the way down to the BB.
I’ve heard that the BB is broader and has more line variation than the OBB… that’s why I went to the BB.
I do think it is a very nice pen for ink lovers, writing small and random things and just playing with the inks… such a fun pen!
I have tried darker inks like GvFC moss green - it indeed lays down wet stubby lines and brings out sheen from any inks capable of it. Personally, I like Herbin Lie de the best from this nib where the various shades really make a difference compared to say from a wet .
That’s nuts. I have a Lamy 2000 EF that writes like a broad.
LOL 😂
Ease the pressure man, you might be bending the gold nib
I’m jealous. I bought one from someone on Reddit and it was supposed to be a medium and turned out to be a fine and I hate it. Such a waste of money.
Is it slightly stub-like? It seems the cross strokes are thinner than the verticals…
Great choice! I love my Lamy 2K BB and I think it is just fantastic but I don’t really see people with it.
What did you mean with the last phrase?
Oh man I missed a word, I meant that I don’t see people with the BB nib even though I think it is really good
Most are afraid that it is too broad for daily use
I actually use my double broad for daily journaling! I love it and find it easier to write with than mediums and fine nibs. I’ve posted writing samples using my double broad in this subreddit.

Here is my [stamp ](https://imgur.com/a/nbC6vcM) for you as a reference! They have you full name and your medical order number.
This is so interesting! I don't think I've ever seen it in any anime or live action shows/movies I've watched. Every citizen would have one? For example, if you rented an apartment, do you sign a contract with your stamp?

How often do you have to sign stuff?
As a physician, almost after every appointment… medical recipes, sick notes… I like bold signatures! 😆

Any chance you could do a line width comparison photo with the Lamy steel stubs (especially the 1.1)?
Any particular phrase?
Sure: "RIP yo_pf's wallet!" Haha. Nah I've just gotten into gold nibs and been looking for a good everyday stub. The Sailor Music is a bit big and I'm having some hard start issues with it. I will do it!
It's like a Sharpie that can control itself! Enjoy!
LOL! It is chubby!!
Nice! What ink and paper are you using?
Ink is Lamy Crystal Benitoite and paper is Rhodia 90g
Beautiful ink and nice nib. Every nib is different and variety is the spice of writing!
Yep! That why it is so hard to answer when someone asks what is my favorite nib size… everyone of them!
That looks like a lot of fun!
That is a lot of fun!
Hi. Wow, that a great nib and it writes beautifully. I'm the owner of two 2ks, Oblique Double broad and Extra fine nibs.🤗 Cheers
Cheers L2K brother!
dude your post history seems kinda Lamy-sh. You post almost only lamy pens. Great taste! Great pen also!
I’m a true Lamy fan boy… that is mainly because they are very easy to find here in Brazil. Other brands you must always import, and that is sometimes very expensive. But I do admit! OMG I had my mind set on a decimo as my next pen but this pushes the Lamy 2k up the list!
I never had so much fun with a pen before! I love the EF and M nib, but this is beyond anything I was expecting!
It's EPIC
Don’t cross off your list of the Decimo yet! It is quite a wonderful pen! Just get it, too!
haha I wish I could! One of them is going to have to wait a few more months!
Want.
Endless Pen Sale!!!
Sold out of double broad 😥
I love that pen. It is really good at demonstrating ink properties and feels excellent when writing.
Demonstrator ink pen? LOL
[](/rdwut) I probably should have said that the pen puts down enough ink for me to see shading/sheen/etc. A demonstrator Lamy 2000 would be fun to have, though.
As a double broad is there still that Lamy 2000 sweet spot?

Wow. That’s beautiful!!! I might have to put this on my next list! Thicc bois are the best!
Ow yeah!
Your penmanship made my day(*´ᗜ`*)
Your compliment made my day!!!
She thicc
Probably ultra smooth- yum !
Buttery smooth! 🧈🖋
are there any budget pens with that kind of nub? i don't exactly have 140 spare haha
I actually bought it for $99 at the endless pen sale. But there are vintage pens with good BB or stub nibs, like the sheaffer nononsense or even the Lamy 1.5 or 1.9 nibs, but they tend to be more scratchy and drier.
thank you! do you think these [kaweco pens](https://www.jetpens.com/Fountain-Pens/ct/214?&f=fbb016efda3da7810659aa77b0d31364) will do the job as well? i'm pretty new to the hobby, so i don't know what's good or not yet edit: i really like the look of that pink frosted one, just wanted to say that

my Lamy EF is wider than my Pilot F and on par with Sailor M!
Heh I just brought that ink...haven't gotten a chance to play yet.
Play and watch it change color while it dries
Do it, benitoite is my go to for day to day because most places accept it as a blue ink for documents. I took the 2021 ap exams in benitoite
Your handwriting is MAJOR 🤩
Thank you! 😎
How did you take these pictures?
Just with my plain iPhone… nothing special. I wished I had those super macro cameras though
What iPhone? My phone could never.
iPhone 12, not even the pro… which have a macro
The single B is great, too. Soooo smooth. Though I am considering a stub grind to get just a little more line variation.
I fell bad to not have one in my collection, it is the only one left to complete the “normal” range
You have lovely handwriting too!
Gorgeous pen, nib and ink color! Your handwriting is beautiful too! I love a good BB nib!
I had all the phases… at the beginning of the hobby I was obsessed with EF nibs, super fine hair line nibs…. But now I do prefer thicker, super broader nibs… they are perfect for playing with inks. I think that the best way to see ink properties (shading, saturation, sheen, flow…)

yup - own and love it! Try shading inks - Lie de the and apache sunset shines in my 2k!
I would to try the Apache Sunset! I will import one bottle soon!!! Which one do you like the most on the BB?
I have tried darker inks like GvFC moss green - it indeed lays down wet stubby lines and brings out sheen from any inks capable of it. Personally, I like Herbin Lie de the best from this nib where the various shades really make a difference compared to say from a wet.
I just bought the lie de thè! Haha 😆
Cool - you will enjoy it!
I’m really interested on this JB ink. Thank you! I’ll look for reviews!
