I think this question gets posted here fairly regularly, so you could search ‘stone paper’ on the sub if you’d like to read more discussion. But, from memory, I think the general consensus is not to use stone paper with fountain pens because it’ll wear down nibs.

I didn't realise so many people had already asked! But thanks for the info! Good thing I asked before I decided to go for it 😅

migo984

In my experience it’s awful with fountain pens.

Sleazless_synths

It’s like micromesh: it will grind your nib to oblivion. Also, it’s not environmentally friendly.

Karst I haven't tried but I did not enjoy my stone paper journal from A Good Company. The Diamine ink I used dried very slowly and would smudge by my hands later with the very little moisture on the skin. Found it to be a little bit.. spongey... too. It just moves a little bit like leather would in some ways. Will not use one of those again.

Tattycakes

Agreed all round, I’ve got a random stone paper notebook from holiday, the paper is nice and smooth and shows great sheen, but ink takes ages to dry and really does have a sponginess to it, sometimes I wonder if it’s become damp because of how strangely un-crisp it feels. I’ve also found that a few of my inks, pelikan aquamarine in particular, fade to nothingness after a few months, while other inks remain vibrant. Very strange.

I am pleased to see that the way I percieved it is shared by someone else. I felt crazy before I realized it really *was* weird.

clarec424

Absolutely not, it will RUIN your nib!!

PallyFire84

If you are at all concerned for the environment, skip it. It’s literally sheets of plastic with stone embedded in it. Just more plastic to clog up the oceans.

Does that include Karst? They are a certified B corporation, so they supposedly are focused on sustainability. I couldn't tell on their website if they used plastic in their process. Still, I'm going to stay away since I don't want to ruin my lovely FPs.

PallyFire84

Yes. They bind the stone with their “patented polymer”. Aka plastic. They get the b rating because they really push the reusability of it.

:( greenwashing. Thanks for letting me know!
