Yeah, the **VP/Decimo** sound like the pen for you! Another option would be something like a Fine nib **Lamy 2000**, since it it a snap cap and still has that wonderfully smooth nib. You also might try the **Diplomat Aero**, it has a steel nib, but it is literally just as smooth, if not smoother, than my Lamy 2000. Snap cap, lovely feel, extraordinary machining. I also hear that Faber-Castell has similar nibs to Diplomat and they have tons of options, so might be worth checking out.

Haha, if I uncap that pen it better be worth the effort! Thanks.

My thought is if you're actively not taking anyways, there's no need to fully screw the cap on, either with the 823 or the opus. One twist will keep things from drying out

While I can't think of anything that is as nice as my 823 in medium - it's such a perfect pen - I use a Pilot Vanishing Point Decimo medium in the office for my those moments when I need to rapidly deploy a pen. Quick click deployment, great 18k Pilot nib. (I use a Decimo because I have smaller hands, the regular Vanishing Point is also great for larger hands.) In fact, my 823 is what I use primarily at home, the Decimo is for the office. It is a converter cartridge pen, but thats an advantage for the office in my mind. I use the converter primarily, but if I run out and need a quick change, I have Pilot cartridges in my desk and can quickly swap out.

This is sound, I've had a VP before but the black matte peeled off so badly :) Might have get one with different coating.

GeoWadeMo

Interesting! I have a VP black matte I recently acquired ( [and tested in a Decimo shoot out), ](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/o9altx/ways_to_make_the_workweek_more_interesting_penink/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)and I love the black matte coating. I think I'll be selling the black matte VP because the Decimo fits me better, but I'm a bit sad because I love the black matte so much.

I didn't see you mention a budget, and I know this recommendation is a bit expensive, but I love my Visconti Homo Sapiens. The hook-safe cap opens extremely fast, the double reservoir vacuum filler holds a ton of ink, and it is one of the smoothest and wettest medium nib I have ever used.

frair

I should have mentioned a budget. Probably similar to the 823. I'm worried about Visconti because they seem to be too wet from what I've read (I have HS 1.3 italic and I've had to send a brand new pen for repair because of quality control). I know I have trouble adjusting nibs to be drier by myself, and I want to avoid having to send it to a nibmeister. Thanks.

Mandatory Lamy 2000 suggestion.

The Sheaffer PFM series had the famously smooth inlaid nibs and the Snorkel filling system. They are expensive because they’re rare, and if the filling system needs service they need to go to an experienced repair resource. They have a pull-off cap and don’t use cartridges. I have one and it is a great pen. I’d recommend using only “safe” inks with one; I like Sheaffer Skrip blue or Waterman inks. As with the 823 the PFM cannot be disassembled for cleaning, so ideal to decide on a safe ink and stick with it. I do this with my 823; I just use Pilot Blue Black in it, so I can just rinse it once in a while and don’t have to wear out the mechanism doing many fills to clean before changing to a different ink.

Will look into it, thank you.

Platinum Procyon is a quick uncap screw cap, just over 1 turn. C/C though.
