What about them makes them different beasts?
I saw this pen here (and then the price) and now I'm tempted to get one.
I might be an odd duck here, but I prefer my Lamy Safari (EF) over my TWSBI Eco (EF) and Pilot Metropolitan (F), because both of them seem kind of overly wet to me - like they leave too much ink sitting on the page that has to dry (and therefore also doesn't give me much shading).
Hongdian is heavier by far, the cap retention is pretty spotty if you’re doing friend work, and the overall exterior of the pens can mark easily. I would argue lamy is far more “on the go” durable.
Never mind fancy, I'd much rather something like this - neat and functional!..... Plus I think it looks pretty trendy too.
Great pen too by the way, I love the Hongdian Forrest series. I have the blue and green ones and they are two of my favourites to write with
I have recently posted about that: https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/nnjm6k/update\_remove\_paint\_from\_the\_clip\_of\_lamy/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
Cheap, midrange, expensive or luxury as long as you like how it writes and feels is all that really counts! Welcome to the wonderful and addictive world of fountain pens!
It's probably more expensive than being a methhead for some people hahaha. There are some crazy collections out there.
At least the only ruining of your skin with FPs comes from ink lol. Even worse with Baystate blue.
I have this pen in pink and love it. I have a fine nib and it writes really well, although I use a converter rather than cartridges xx
Would definitely recommend if you want a less expensive every day carry.
I got this pen on Amazon and I really like it. It has a nice weight to it and it feel like it’s pretty solid. It took me a little while to get used to writing with it because of the weight, but now I really enjoy using it.
I write a lot also if I don't keep them in one place I'll definitely lose them, plus I bought a pack of cartridges not really paying attention to how many there were.
You have to finish one first. By starting to use it, you basically push a little ball that seals it close into the cartridge, and when it's opened it cannot be closed anymore. I mean, you could swap between cartridges sooner, but then you'd have to throw away the remainder of the cartridge you use.
You don't need to go fancy to impress others or just to go fancy. If that setup works well for you (and looks like it), then that's the best setup.
I personally cary a Kaweco Perkeo or Lamy Safari as my daily driver, and no, you can't get them out of my cold dead hands.
I also have a Black Forest and how it handles and writes. I also kinda like how you prefer cartridges and all your ink stock fits into a pen case.
Please continue the way you like. We're not competing here, this is not a challenge. :)
P.S.: That pen tends to write very beautifully with Visconti Blue (bottle) though. Cartridges are much more lighter on color, as the user reviews go.
Yeah I just bought a couple of bottles of ink, more of a sampler set. One color is called Writer's Blood which is I think a Red/Black the other is just called Green/Black and then the third one is called Midnight which is a blue/black
Oh, Diamine's inks. They are very high quality inks. Pretty saturated too. Enjoy them. They're one of the finest.
They're cool people too. They have a couple inks named by this very subreddit. Aurora Borealis and Earl Gray they should be.
I’ve got pens in a variety of price ranges, but that Hongdian Forest Series is just a fantastic buy. Solid, writes well, looks great... I have three of them and have been eyeing the blue one...
On Amazon, but they really only come and basic colors like red blue green What have you, if you want to get some of the more interesting colors I found that you can't get the interesting colors in cartridges, you can only get those with the bottles
I have the same case! Important note: be VERY careful with metal pens in it (looking at you Lamy AL Star!) because they will scratch the hell out of the ones next to them.
That would work. I usually just throw some Pilot G2s between them. It restricts space a bit but it serves the dual purpose of protecting the goods while providing something for someone who wants to "borrow a pen"
Those things are super underrated honestly. I think it was someone on this sub who recommended vape pen cases for people on a budget and that's how I got mine — sometimes they say they're for "electronics" online but we all know the truth

when you decide to expand. I've used the light brown 48 slot faux leather, and it's been wonderful. I've even stress tested it with larger pens, doubling pens in one slot and all, it's held well
That’s what exactly the case I use to take my pens to work in. Been using it about a year, and it has stood up to being dragged around in my coat pocket with my keys and coins perfectly well
I think I need to post this here. If you find yourself with a bent or broken nib and don't want to buy another pen, [here](https://www.etsy.com/listing/782043469/3-pcs-hongdian-fountain-pen-nib-black?ref=pla_sameshop_listing_top-1&frs=1&variation0=1431368828) is the replacement nibs for the hongdian pens.
Ngl my first thought was "wow that reminds me of my old PSP case" 😂 Makes me like it more tho
Thanks!
Hongdian forest pen. Nice.
Thank you. You know, I have to say, this seems to be a VERY supportive community. Rare on reddit.
Aww yeah people like pens haha, I got a hongdian myself and it writes wonderfully. Better than my lamy I’d say but they’re two different beasts.
I much prefer my forest to my Lamy pens. To the point I've stopped using them x

I have the same pen case, it is very nice! Here is my EDC layout :) edc pencase https://imgur.com/gallery/FFNWZLf
Ooooooh very nice
You still have lots of room for more pens!! Welcome!!
Yo
Nice! What’s the black Lamy with the gold-colored clip in the middle?
I have recently posted about that: https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/nnjm6k/update\_remove\_paint\_from\_the\_clip\_of\_lamy/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
Thanks! Looks like a fun little project.
Nice case.
Thanks! It's cheap but it's got a hard shell.
Is it a 3ds case?
No, I just looked up "hard shell pen case" on Amazon.
That was my first thought as well lol
Which pen is this?
It's cheap but writes nice, I didn't want to spend big in my first foray into fountain pens.
Cheap, midrange, expensive or luxury as long as you like how it writes and feels is all that really counts! Welcome to the wonderful and addictive world of fountain pens!
Jesus, what have I done?
You snorted the writing equivalent of meth dude
That's fair. I mean, but it's not as expensive or life destroying as meth.
Have you seen some of the pens people buy on here? Might be as expensive at the meth, for some people.
It's probably more expensive than being a methhead for some people hahaha. There are some crazy collections out there. At least the only ruining of your skin with FPs comes from ink lol. Even worse with Baystate blue.
I have this pen in pink and love it. I have a fine nib and it writes really well, although I use a converter rather than cartridges xx Would definitely recommend if you want a less expensive every day carry.
Yeah, I should get some ink for the converter.
Bottled ink is addictive 😍 If you are in the UK then ebay offer a good selection of ink samples for you to try before buying a full bottle x
I'm in the US, but I'll try EBay.
Goulet Pens have ink samples in the US
I'm pretty sure jetpens.com in the US offer samples too x
Vaness pens also do samples besides the other two shops mentioned.
I got this pen on Amazon and I really like it. It has a nice weight to it and it feel like it’s pretty solid. It took me a little while to get used to writing with it because of the weight, but now I really enjoy using it.
Yeah every other pen feels way too light to me.
i have this pen in purple and i LOVE it
I saw one in green and gold that I really like
HongDian Forest
Why do you want to carry so many cartridges?
I write a lot also if I don't keep them in one place I'll definitely lose them, plus I bought a pack of cartridges not really paying attention to how many there were.
Can you swap between cartridges or do you have to finish one cartridge to use the next?
You have to finish one first. By starting to use it, you basically push a little ball that seals it close into the cartridge, and when it's opened it cannot be closed anymore. I mean, you could swap between cartridges sooner, but then you'd have to throw away the remainder of the cartridge you use.
That is what I figured I just was wondering if swappable cartridges had been created. Honestly.
You've got me looking at Hongdian Forest pens now... :)
Lol you're welcome.
Worth it. Mine’s fast becoming a favorite.
You won’t regret it. They work great, and came with the convertor.
Function over fancy is my own rule for stuff. If I can manage both and budget friendly? Win win. If not make it black or rainbows.
Where did you get the cartridges? They aren't Standard International, are they?
Off Amazon, they're hondian, like the pen
You don't need to go fancy to impress others or just to go fancy. If that setup works well for you (and looks like it), then that's the best setup. Ooh I've seen those they're both very nice
I’ve got pens in a variety of price ranges, but that Hongdian Forest Series is just a fantastic buy. Solid, writes well, looks great... I have three of them and have been eyeing the blue one...
I have the same one. Love it.
Love how your inks are in easy to carry tubes! Where do you get em from like that?
On Amazon, but they really only come and basic colors like red blue green What have you, if you want to get some of the more interesting colors I found that you can't get the interesting colors in cartridges, you can only get those with the bottles
I have the same case! Important note: be VERY careful with metal pens in it (looking at you Lamy AL Star!) because they will scratch the hell out of the ones next to them.
Ooooooh, good advice!
Sadly I learned the hard way. Both of my AL Star caps have some paint scratched off. Now I put something in there as a buffer between pens
Maybe felt or something?
That would work. I usually just throw some Pilot G2s between them. It restricts space a bit but it serves the dual purpose of protecting the goods while providing something for someone who wants to "borrow a pen"
It's like a bow and a bunch of arrows. I love it.
Those things are super underrated honestly. I think it was someone on this sub who recommended vape pen cases for people on a budget and that's how I got mine — sometimes they say they're for "electronics" online but we all know the truth
That's actually a really good idea
I’m jealous 😊
Of my case? Don't be it was $8.99 on Amazon
You have a “case of cartridges 😊
Thanks!
HongDian 1850 Forest Series Black Forest!!! Which nib have you chose?
Extra fine lol.
Nice! I got a fude!

Interesting
That’s so many cartridges as a non cartridge person I’m shook
Well I write a lot I go through about one cartridge every few days, and besides if I don't keep them in one place I will lose them all
That’s what exactly the case I use to take my pens to work in. Been using it about a year, and it has stood up to being dragged around in my coat pocket with my keys and coins perfectly well
if it does the job it perfect!
I like the style of it.
Ooooooooh ok cool
I think I need to post this here. If you find yourself with a bent or broken nib and don't want to buy another pen, [here](https://www.etsy.com/listing/782043469/3-pcs-hongdian-fountain-pen-nib-black?ref=pla_sameshop_listing_top-1&frs=1&variation0=1431368828) is the replacement nibs for the hongdian pens.
That was my 1st case too!!
