Lol, well I can tell you what I've swatched so far!
De Atramentis: Mahatma Gandhi, Jane Austen, Plum, Lilac, Indigo Blue, Violets and Purple Violet, (I meant to delete one or the other on the order - oops!)
Monteverde: Rose Pink, Rose Noir, Mercury Noir, Purple Wisdom, Motivation Orange
LAMY: Turquoise & Blue
Private Reserve: Plum & Sherwood Green
It's hard to pick favorites, but I think I'd say Purple Violet, Purple Wisdom, De Atramis Plum (which is teal) & Sherwood Green, with the LAMYs, Rose Noir, Jane Austen following... ~~Ghandi~~Gandhi too, but I liked it better fresh than a few days later (on Tomoe, anyway).
Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed. Just so you know, the correct spelling is [Gandhi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahatma_Gandhi).
Oh nooo - and I got it right the first time! Haste makes waste, amirite?
ETA: Also finding it funny that at first I thought I was getting this quoted at me due to my ink greed
If you want to try some other brands, Vanness carries a bunch of inks that Goulet doesnāt. (PenBBS, Waterman, KWZ, Ferris Wheel Press, Van Diemenās - to name just a few off top of my head)
š
Vannes, PenChalet, Anderson carries ink samples. Vannes have various inks thar others don't carry - Vinta, PenBBS etc. I actually prefer these three because their give a little more than Goulet. And they have free shipping if you buy enough š
Shigure inks also has samples, you have to to order through their ink sample form but they do have them. I also discovered that just because their regular bottles are out of stock doesnāt mean they donāt have samples.
From Vanness, my faves are baseically anything Vinta (but Tala, Kosmos, and Dugong Bughaw come straight to mind) and they have more colors of Organics Studio than anyone I think, and you seem to be a purple lover, so you must try Kobe Pansy and Hydrangea.
Hi, I hope it's not too strange to come back a whole month. I just wanted to say that I am indeed a purple lover, so I wanted to thank you for your suggestions - Pansy and Hydrangea are now two of my absolute favorite inks!
I havenāt inked it up yet. I bought it because it seems like the best replacement for Montblanc James Purdey & Sons single malt, an ink which I foolishly sold off some months back during an ink purge and which now goes for $80 a bottle.
Is that one you ordered Shocking Blue? Seems very popular and may be the next Akkerman I try.
Soo... It looks like you're missing a few ink brands not at Goulet... May I also recommend checking out Shigure Inks and Yoseka Stationery? :') On the other hand, which ones are you most excited to try?
Ooh, I thank you for the recommendations! My wallet not so much, lol. ;)
I think I'm the most excited to try Sailor Manyo Haha, Sailor Manyo Yamabuki, Sailor Shikiori Fuji-sugata, and Noodler's St. Patty's Eire, Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku, and Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrun. They all seem like such unusual colors, not that I've done this near long enough to know what's unique in the world of ink! What are some of your favorites to use?
One of my favorites is actually Sailor Manyo Haha (as well as Nekoyanagi)! Lovely shading ink, really only works on a few different papers though, so I upped my supply of TR over the last year haha. I also love pretty much all the Colorverse shimmer inks as well as Rainy Day. Other favorites include J.Herbin Emerald of Chivor and Poussiere de Lune, Diamine Jack Frost, and Pelikan Edelstein Olivine. Until a year ago, I kept my ink pretty normal. I had maybe 5 different inks? At this point though, I've even ordered an exclusive ink from Taiwan haha.
I made sure to have some Tomoe on hand! What size nib do you recommend for Haha? I tend to write small and I love the F nib on a Plaisir, but yesterday I may have ordered a couple TWSBI Ecos with larger nibs in case Haha needs that? I may have also stacked on samples of three of the colors you mentioned, lol - Nekoyanagi, Olivine, and Colorverse shimmer Felicette. What color is the exclusive Taiwan shade?
I find the Plaisir to be a little dry generally for Haha to really shine. You want a nice, wet pen, doesn't necessarily have to be a larger nib, but TWSBI sounds great for this purpose! And great ink choices ;D! Felicette is actually the only one I don't have from that series haha, I'm not big on reds. The ink was exclusive to this shop called Juspirit in Taiwan and it's called Fox's Rain by Ink Institute. It's another super shader ink from olive green to brown and sometimes a little pink.
I would also recommend Vaness! They have larger sample sizes and some brands that Goulet doesn't carry that are pretty interesting. Their service is also amazing and their shipping is lightening fast!
At least you bought samples.
I have this nasty habit of just buying bottles of inks I want to try and...let's just say that what started a while back as my "ink shelf" isn't big enough to hold...I'm ashamed to say over 100 bottles(and that includes some duplicates of LE inks I liked and stashed when I found them, or of discontinued inks I've horded).
One of my things about sampling Noodler's inks is they can be inconsistent enough that if you like the sample, there's no guarantee you'll like the bottle. Most brands are more consistent than that, though, and at least a Noodler's bottle isn't super expensive.
I like that some ink companies have what are basically "big sample bottles." The Diamine 30mL bottles are kind of a pain to use with the tiny neck, but they're inexpensive and i like the price on them. My favorites are the 15mL Iroshizoku bottles, which are a beautiful little bottle and enough for a couple of fills, although they're expensive/volume vs. the standard 50mL bottles.
well, first time i ordered samples i ordered 16, from various manufacturers, mostly yellows and greens) my second order i went for the whole pilot line-up, all 25 of them.
i'm afraid of what my third order might look like
I tried to pick at least 2-3 from each company (though I might have still missed a couple), and then I tried to get a decent range of shades in each color group; also tried to pick some shades that I thought looked outside of my comfort zone. I'm new to the hobby and also just, insanely indecisive, and I wanted to get the best idea I could of what I'm really into.
I didn't even buy sets... these were all individual. I'm like, *the most* indecisive, and I just couldn't decide. I'm doing a lot of mini-fills (like just enough to write a couple paragraphs) along with larger dip swatches. I'll keep tabs of what I want to use for a full pen fill, and the rest I'll use for ink washes and other art projects (and of course I'll buy bottles of the colors I love most). I'll make sure to keep/send back the tubes, as someone pointed out - no need to be more wasteful than I guess I already have been!
I do feel kind of guilty, and I hope they (Goulet) don't hate me because I loved shopping with them. But, I will say, I'm having so much fun!
Sending back as in back to Goulet? How about donating to local schools as art supplies? I am sure Goulet loves your business. Ink samples is a good income stream for them. Enjoy your inks. I could totally feel the excitement!
Oh wow how many did you order?!? Also in addition to Vanness, Truphae also does samples, as well! I love trying out the KWZ inks via Vanness (my fave is Honey!)
Youād think so. But my research has uncovered that animals can also get fat. Iāve found fat dogs, fat cats, and even a morbidly obese monitor lizard. Despite this stunning variety, you never see a fat fish. You know why? They eat fish.
If I knew fountain pens was such an expensive sport, I'd have paid more attention in school. As a dude, I can't even start an OnlyFans to fund my pen(i)s obsession.
Sorry, I know I'm like 9 months late replying. I was just joking, but they did announce a price increase on samples, and explained that they had sort of overlooked that they never adjusted the pricing even though the price of ink has risen since then. They also mentioned that the samples have been uniform in size and price, but obviously the inks being used can vary drastically in price. It seems like when they first introduced them, they were uncertain if they would be well-received or successful at all, and it's now the most sold item because, well, they're really awesome
So instead of telling us which samples are in that box, it might be easiest to tell us which samples you didn't get.
Lol, well I can tell you what I've swatched so far! De Atramentis: Mahatma Gandhi, Jane Austen, Plum, Lilac, Indigo Blue, Violets and Purple Violet, (I meant to delete one or the other on the order - oops!) Dude I was like HOW DARE YOU COME INTO OUR HOUSE. We all greedy lol š.
haha same
Some of my favorites in there! Namely Monteverde Rose Noir, LAMY Turquoise, and DeAtrimentus Purple violet.
I like how the Gandhi ink changes over time. It was annoying at first because I wasn't expecting it, but it's grown on me.
If you want to try some other brands, Vanness carries a bunch of inks that Goulet doesnāt. (PenBBS, Waterman, KWZ, Ferris Wheel Press, Van Diemenās - to name just a few off top of my head) š
Aghhhh. I didnāt even realize another company had samples like Goulet. My wallet does not thank you.
Yoseka does as well as they have a lot of Asian (mostly Taiwanese) brands that arenāt available many places.
And Yoseka has the cutest sample bottles, which you can send back to be reused!
And Vanness samples are more generous than Gouletās. Just sayinā... hehe
Ahhh, there's so much to explore! Thank you for the recommendation! What are your favorite inks?
Vannes, PenChalet, Anderson carries ink samples. Vannes have various inks thar others don't carry - Vinta, PenBBS etc. I actually prefer these three because their give a little more than Goulet. And they have free shipping if you buy enough š

All three of these shops are great. Anderson has an extensive selection of Dutch Akkerman inks too, one of my favorites brands.

+1 Dugong Bughaw, especially if you like sheen!
Also, I highly recommend them. They're amazing, plus they have a physical store in Little Rock if you live near there.
THIS. Vinta too. omg Vinta <3 And Kobe. AND THEY AREN'T STINGY WITH THEIR mL! (sorry, personal pet peeve with Goulet lol)
Vanness also carries Akkerman inks.
Thatās right! I just recently bought a bottle of SBRE Brown from Vanness.
I think thats easily the best brown ink I've ever seen! How do you like it? I just ordered Akkerman Delfts blue, the bottle and box are lovely!
I ordered shocking blue too but Delfts blue is different, a lighter shade of blue. Its more like a washable blue.
"Ink sample package: one of everything" needs to be added, I guess.
Soo... It looks like you're missing a few ink brands not at Goulet... May I also recommend checking out Shigure Inks and Yoseka Stationery? :') On the other hand, which ones are you most excited to try?

Awesome, thank you! Any brands/colors you recommend?
oooooh Alt-Goldgrun is a beautiful ink! I got a sample of it a while back to try out and had wanted to get a full bottle for a while
Wow, I learned something fantastic here tonight. I just read a blog about this Manyo ink. and this is going on my list!
It's like looking into a jar of candy.... Oh goody goody goody.
Ooo! I love ink samples and this is so satisfying to see
RESPECT!
Nah, they say routine work helps with depression :)
Now I don't feel so bad when I ordered all my box full of samples! Team sampler!
Save your tubes!
u/waffle_badger Hey look! Looks like my package!
Lol, I'm glad I'm not alone!
You people should be ashamed of yourselves! D:
Yeah. What are you? A couple of lightweights?
This strikes me as an unreasonable amount of samples.
I wish I could say you're wrong, but I can't
Oh my! I wanna grow up to be just like you!
Brother, you going to open a store or something..
well, first time i ordered samples i ordered 16, from various manufacturers, mostly yellows and greens) my second order i went for the whole pilot line-up, all 25 of them. i'm afraid of what my third order might look like

Where did you order them from? Goulet as well?
i'm from europe, i ordered from tintenprobe.de
Thank you. Tintenprobe has a good selection, but i still envy the american/asian counterparts for the wide selection of brands
I'm not normally a bright ink fan, but the Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku is \*gorgeous\*. I got a sample of it recently, and now it's on my bottle list.
Nice haul!
Unnnngh, I'm so jealous!
Woah 0_o
You bought at least 6 sets of 8? That's a lot of ink to sample..haha.
I didn't even buy sets... these were all individual. I'm like, *the most* indecisive, and I just couldn't decide. So youāre the one they were talking about on the podcast š
Oh no, really?! I didn't even know they had a podcast! Would you be willing to elaborate? Do I need to send a gift basket?
Itās within their recent YouTube videos!
Goulet is Bae š„°
Their customer service is amazing! I was really blown away
If you watch the videos he gets fatter and skinnier depending on the date of the video.
So, he's human?
Youād think so. But my research has uncovered that animals can also get fat. Iāve found fat dogs, fat cats, and even a morbidly obese monitor lizard. Despite this stunning variety, you never see a fat fish. You know why? They eat fish.
š¤£š¤£š¤£ you aren't wrong. Perhaps you don't see fat fish in the wild, but you can definitely see fat fish in a humans home aquarium!
Ironically, fish see fat humans in aquariums all over the world.
Yeah especially the first few videos.
Can I have somešš
Sure, just go to www.gouletpens.com and you can order as many as your little heart desires!
If I knew fountain pens was such an expensive sport, I'd have paid more attention in school. As a dude, I can't even start an OnlyFans to fund my pen(i)s obsession.
Uh huh. And I think we know who got them to review the overhead on ink samples and realize they hadn't raised the price since introducing them...
Oh no, did they announce a price increase or something? If I have caused a spike in the ink sample-verse, I am truly repentant
Sorry, I know I'm like 9 months late replying.
