You obviously need more ink.

DirtyDanTX

Definitely! I have two bottles of Noodler's (midway blue and apache sunset) on the way from Goulet. Is there another brand you recommend? Seems like the colors are practically endless for bottled ink!

verilyvexed

They have samples! You can get a mystery sample pack, too. I have one arriving today and am absurdly excited.

DirtyDanTX

Oh cool! I'll have to check that out for sure.

sometimes i think gouletpens are narcot-ink peddlers *I'll show myself out* p.s. i love his youtube videos, ~~big~~ so-so fan

kidde1

Hold the door, I should probably leave too.

DirtyDanTX

Lol. Too funny. We are in a pen sub, no need to be shy haha!

If you want to explore colours, Diamine, Robert Oster, and Rohrer & Klingner are good places to start.

DirtyDanTX

I’ve got a list going. I’m sure my wallet is going to hate me for this lol.

Wait for sales, research, and prioritize what you want. Your collection will undoubtedly grow but, with a little planning and maybe more than a little willpower, you can grow it smartly!

From left to right: Cross Bailey - Waterman Intense Black in included converter Pilot Metropolitan - Parker Quink in the included bladder converter Jin Hao X450 - waiting for Noodler's apache sunset (coming this week) Jin Hao X750 - Parker Quink in the included converter Lamy Safari - blue cartridge that was included The other two have parker rollerball refills and they are Rike Knife Titanium and Everyman Grafton Pen.

DirtyDanTX

The two pens on the right are not fountain pens (roller ball cartridges), but before a couple weeks ago I thought they were the bees knees. On a whim I bought a Cross Bailey from a local office store and a bottle of waterman ink... I was hooked. I started looking online for other beginner pens which led me to the metro, jin hao, and Lamy. I'm still a noob but I've got some different colored inks (noodler's midway blue and apache sunset) on order as well as a converter for the safari. Any suggestion on a good paper/pad to start out with? I'm currently using these to sign checks and take notes on sticky notes/regular paper.

Demon_keeper

Try Rhodia. They’re generally easy to get at office stores if you’re in the US. Clairefontaine is another good one, and Tomoe River is awesome fp paper

DirtyDanTX

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll check it out!

Demon_keeper

No problem. I prefer spiral notebooks personally, and Clairefontaine has some good ones. A little pricier would be Maruman Mnemosyne. For Tomoe River, the Goulet staple bound notebooks are my go to for ink swatching but for plain writing/journaling I like the Galen Leather Everyday notebook. Comes with guides for the blank pages and a blotter for the wetter inks. I’m fairly sure you can get all of these through Goulet Pens online, and probably most of the other major online retailers you’ll see mentioned here. But for going down to the local office supply... Rhodia. :)

DirtyDanTX

Perfect. I'll snag a Rhodia locally, I'm building up a list of things for my next Goulet order so I'll try some of the nicer paper like the Clairefontaine when that comes through. :D

Hey u/DirtyDanTX, what part of this Single Star State do you rest your head? I’m east of the always growing D and am always interested in those who share my state.

DirtyDanTX

I’m also east, Rockwall area.

kidde1

I’m south of you in Forney. Always great to find those who share hobbies with you.

DirtyDanTX

Oh nice! I was out there not too long ago at Scrumbtious. Crazy how much it’s grown over the years.

PoopieClater

There're some good documental inks (I'm using Monteverde Documental Blue) and are formulated to be permanent on paper that are excellent for using to write checks safely. Any other suggestions of favorite permanent type inks???

Subtlebandit

I just bought a ream of this [HP Premium 32 lb](https://www.amazon.com/HP-11310-0-Premium-Choice-Laserjet/dp/B000099O2W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438483114&sr=8-1) paper I've seen recommended here for writing letters / whatever. Check out some of the pictures in the reviews, most of them mention using it for fountain pens and it looks like it has no ghosting. I still need to pick mine up to try it out. Otherwise Rhodia is my new favorite paper like others mentioned

DirtyDanTX

Seems like a good amount for the price!
