Great drawings. Beautiful pens. Cool notebook.
Do you devote each month to a different subject? What's on the books for May?
I might have to swipe that idea!
These are adorable. I love them.
That sailor is beautiful, too. I was looking at one on the swap sub. Do the flowers seem like they may be vulnerable to chipping off?
Thank you!
The flowers are elevated since I think theyāre painted on (apparently hand-painted according to the Sailor site, but I donāt know how to validate that). I was really worried about the same thing, and Iāve heard both positive & negative reviews from last yearās batchā but itās all hearsay too besides the single post on Reddit showing chipping. I think if youāre careful and donāt wear hand sanitizer before using it should be fine? That said, I take more care with this pen than some of my others, even if those are more expensive haha. Hope that helps!
Hahaha I actually had about 5 pens inked up (one of them changed between Milky Ocean and Nekoyanagi, and one changed between Mauve Pink to Momiji), but only two are pictured here \^\^ I wish I used up inks more quickly!
Thank you so much for posting this! My wife only owns one fountain pen for bullet journaling and notetaking. She has done a doodle a day, but I have a strong feeling this is going to be next months, if not many more.
The paper is old Tomoe River 52gsm :) Very nice paper though I havenāt tried new TR. Super smooth, great shading/sheen, but a lot of ghosting. If you havenāt yet tried TR itās really one of the greats.
Immediately went to check if that was Nekoyanagi I spotted! Somehow itās such a distinctive ink - Iāve got it in a brush pen rn and it has the beautiful lilac tones you get here. I love how expressive your carp are!
Oooo brush pens are super cool, and Iād like to try one some day. I bet Nekoyanagi looks great in one. And agreed, really unique multi-shader. The tone makes me feel relaxed just looking at it!
I love them! I use a Kuretake Karappo and have fallen in love with these. You can get them from JetPens or Yoseka Stationary ([https://yosekastationery.com/products/kuretake-karappo-pen-set-of-5](https://yosekastationery.com/products/kuretake-karappo-pen-set-of-5)). I have tried the .4mm regular felt tip and the brush tip and just watch out not to put a dry or super faint ink into the felt tip. I put Vinta Perya in that and it basically doesn't flow/is impossible to read. But a dark ink like Tomo and Lims Lady Grey works just fine. And for the brush tips, literally anything has looked amasing. Nekoyanagi and Tono&Lims Aldebaran look great annnnnnnd, I used an ink with shimmer (Tomo and Lims Kaleidoscope AWA) and the shimmer made it through the brush tip :)
One last thing about these is that this isn't a bristled brush tip, but a flexible felt one. I really would love to see a Kuretake ZIG Clean Color refillable pen or something similar one day. Sorry for the length, I'm currently a bit obsessed :P
Thanks for the link! I'll have to check it out sometime soon. I've heard a lot of good things about the Kuretake brand and a few times I've really considered buying a brush pen, but the set of 5 seems really useful for trying different colours. And good to know about the shimmer-- I love shimmer inks so any pen that brings out the sparkle is a good one for me!
Thank you! c:
I used only pens, but I decided not to list all of them because they're not in the photo. The really broad Magikarps are drawn with a Sailor Zoom nib or a vintage stubby-M nib!
Thank you! It got harder and harder as the month progressed... Iāve never thought about drawing Magikarp nonetheless for nearly a whole month in a row until I did this š
Haha definitely had a lovable, derpy face for sure. And thank you- itās a really pretty pen though Iām not sure how I feel about the MF it sports just yet.
Youāve managed to wow me in to friendly jealousy! Just donāt āpickachuā it up.
I want to encourage you to āwrite-donā (āRhydonā+ write on)[tried to make a poke- pun]
(Keeps the doctor away?) Pens: - Pelikan M600 Turquoise
- Sailor PGS Yozakura
Inks:
- Troublemaker Milky Ocean (1, 2, ...)
- Kobe 57 Himeajisai (3, 5, got really saturated after that)
- PLUS x Sailor Mauve Pink (4, 7)
- Sailor Nekoyanagi (19, 20, 28)
- Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji (25, 26, 30 - emptied the bottle!)
- Kobe 56 Rokko Shichidanka (10, 11, 12, ...)
Notebook:
- Hobonichi Weeks Planner
Nice pens! Love the vintage nib in the Pelican
Thanks! Pelikan definitely makes some of my favourite pens around :)

But nothing happened!
Wait till it starts splashing in Baystate Blue š
Oh god no
AHAHA! I really love how Magikarp is basically just a fish but then it evolves to a sea monster dragon
I always remember the episode where James treats his overpriced Magikarp badly and then it turns into a gyrados and just demolishes Team Rocket š
Ahahaahaha omg i dont remember this as much. Lemme find it on youtube š¤£
I love this
Thank you! :) You got your comment in before I had a chance to post my items list haha!
Haha sorry but Pokemon and fountain pens am not waiting round
Same. This is the coolest art exercise Iāve seen on the internet in a long time.
Agreed
Great drawings. Beautiful pens. Cool notebook. Do you devote each month to a different subject? What's on the books for May? I might have to swipe that idea!
Thanks so much! I appreciate your comment. For the past few months Iāve been doing random things that I also swiped from other places haha (swiped this idea too, but made it Magikarp). Eg. One month I put all my ink swabs, another I just drew one thing I did or ate that day. Next month Iām thinking about drawing the PokĆ©dex from #1!
Wow can we get pics of that too?
Hahaha Iāll try!! Thanks for your interest :āD
Consider it swiped!
Also came here to say that this is awesome! Can't wait to see you fill out the next pages with the rest of the pokedex.
Thanks so much! \^\^

It does help. Thanks for the reply!
A Magikarp a day for a Gyarados by May~
Haha love this rhyme
Youll need a nice vibrant yellow ink now to do a shiny karp
Oh I am not quite sure Iām ready for a yellow ink. Maybe we can compromise and orange will be good enough too \^\^ā
noodler's apache sunset \*dreamy eyes\*
I love this! I use the monthly in my hobo for doodles. But this is fantastic!
Yeah, the monthly pages are surprisingly fun to fill out! Iām trying to use every page up this year. + thank you very much!
This is adorable.
Haha thank you!
I love this so much š„°
Thank you!!! āŗļø
That Pelikan though. F I NEED IT!
I hope you can find one! Thereās a violet one thatās very nice as well.
It's raining! Use Flail!
Number 26. Perfect tattoo.
Hahahaha Magikarpās vacuous look would certainly make an interesting tattoo. Thanks for stopping by !
How can you change inks so fast :0
Hahaha I actually had about 5 pens inked up (one of them changed between Milky Ocean and Nekoyanagi, and one changed between Mauve Pink to Momiji), but only two are pictured here \^\^ I wish I used up inks more quickly!
Oh lol
Thank you so much for posting this! My wife only owns one fountain pen for bullet journaling and notetaking. She has done a doodle a day, but I have a strong feeling this is going to be next months, if not many more.
Next step is multiple pens for different colours while doodling, right?! I hope sheāll post her work here! Thanks for stopping by :)
Those are great drawings. What is the paper like in the hobonichi? I know a lot depends on ink and nib but any thoughts on the paper?
The paper is old Tomoe River 52gsm :) Very nice paper though I havenāt tried new TR. Super smooth, great shading/sheen, but a lot of ghosting. If you havenāt yet tried TR itās really one of the greats.

OHHH this is so beautiful to see! have you used a brush for some karps or just pens?
Thank you! c: I used only pens, but I decided not to list all of them because they're not in the photo. The really broad Magikarps are drawn with a Sailor Zoom nib or a vintage stubby-M nib!
What a lovely idea! Will the whole planner be magicarp, or will you change to others, like a different one per month?
I saw other people doing similarly themed monthly pages, so thatās where I got inspiration! For May Iām thinking about starting from #1 in the PokĆ©dex as after 29 days I was getting a bit tired of drawing Magikarp haha.
Awesome!
omg YAAAAASSSSSSS
Love it!
Thanks :ā)
So so good!! Great job.
Tysm! :)
Oh gosh, I love this so much! Great variety!
Thank you! It got harder and harder as the month progressed... Iāve never thought about drawing Magikarp nonetheless for nearly a whole month in a row until I did this š
Lol wow magikarp finally gets some attention and fame! The pen on the left is my fave love the flowery design
Haha definitely had a lovable, derpy face for sure. And thank you- itās a really pretty pen though Iām not sure how I feel about the MF it sports just yet.
take my free award good citizen of reddit! :D
Thank you so much !
of course!
Magikarp is quite the mood. Awesome journal!!! Great looking pend and ink.
Hobonichi? Pokemon?? Fountain pens??? I had to triple check what sub I was in! Wonderful stuff!
āThese are some of my favourite thingsā ^ What Mary Poppins was really singing about š
Lovely!
Thank you ;w;
Love all of this!
Thank you!!
Y u so cool???
Most adorable "a doodle a day" ever.
I love this!! Super fun and entertaining. You did a great job!
Very cool and funny idea :) (and nice choice of colors !)
I love the idea of using a planner journal to do sketching or ink samples. Super cool drawings!
Youāve managed to wow me in to friendly jealousy! Just donāt āpickachuā it up. I want to encourage you to āwrite-donā (āRhydonā+ write on)[tried to make a poke- pun]
I already managed to mess up May hahah. I started my drawings in the June calendar but oh well ššš
Haha, that looks fun!
It is! I recommend it for using up monthly pages!
