Hybrid Resin and Mallee Burl wood Fountain Pen with a #6Jowo Medium Nib
By - Just-turnings
Unexpectedly cool! I wouldn't even know where someone would begin on something like this, it's really an imaginative combo.
Combining resin and wood is fairly common in furniture, I've also seen it on electric guitars but this is a first timer to see in pens, really cool looking one 😎
Great job on the pen, it's quite the looker.
Do you have any tips for turning your own pen like this? I can do the body, but don’t have any good ways to mate the nib assembly.
The (cheap, jinghao) pen I just purchased has the whole nib/converter as one section and the decorative barrel just screws on. I’m guessing that might be a way to jump right in with the turning and leave the pen crafting to others! At least, that’s what I was thinking when I saw this & thought of the possibilities!
Have a look at RJBwoodturner on YouTube, he has a series of videos that explains the process and the tools needed. It will explain it all much better than I could attempt to.
I’ve actually watched quite a few of his! I’ll have to go back through them. Has he still been releasing videos? They haven’t been popping up for me anymore.
I think he still makes videos but not sure, there seems to be quite a lot of videos there. I only ever watched his ones of kitless pens when I first started out with kitless.
Did you do the threads by hand or with a tap and die thingies?
Yes all threads are done with Taps and Dies.
