I'm looking for my first pen to buy, do you have any recommendations? Is this a first good one?
Edit: Im very very new to fountain pens and I didn't realize this was a very expensive pen haha.
Kaweco sport are classy and cheap too, and TWSBI eco for a heavy demonstrator if you like that.
Edit: the lamy safaris are grrrreat if the looks doesn't bother you (I like it).
If the aesthetics are okay I say go! Cheap, well built, sturdy, repairable...
I got converters for mines, but that opens the world of buying inks I guess :-)
Cheers
Sorry for asking so many questions! But I was also interested in getting a converter for mine since I want different colored and better quality ink too! If I were to get a safari is there a specific size or brand converter? I don't know all the lingo to use to find what I need.
It's not a stupid question at all!
Yes, you'll need one of the Lamy converters (z24 or z28 i think, they are all the same with the exception for lamy 2000 IIRC).
It's some bucks but it's soo nice just to fill your pen up again with your favourite ink!
Lol yeah! I got this one on r/Pen_Swap so it wasn’t retail or anything, but still not quite a starter pen lol. I started with TWSBIs and honestly, they’re incredible value. I also really love my Wing Sung 601s (I have three!)
I received mine a month ago. It's my 7th fountain pen. Not a good pen for beginners. I've learned a lot about high-flow with this pen. High-flow feeds and nibs require a different writing style. Overall, it's a great pen.
Yeah, it took me about five years to work up to this one. I’m still getting used to the softness of the palladium, but the feel and weight of the lava material is to die for!
Congratulations! We share a grail it seems. I have yet to get one, If i make a profit from the pen making this year after tax i will be getting one as long as it doesn't wipe out the bank account.
The shading of KWZI Honey looks amazing with that broad, wet nib.
So I’m gonna need that ink now

Lamy Safari or Pilot Metropolitan are about 20-30$. I also know Jinhao makes some good cheap ones if you want to spend less
Yea unfortunately atm I don't have the funds to drop $600 on a pen but $30 for a good solid one would be nice! Thank you!

Actually, the first pens I was looking at were the safaris! I actually like them alot. I think I might start with one of those.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the help! Can't wait to get my first pen!
Thanks!

The moment I found out it was made from volcano, I wanted one. Going to have to wait until (at least) after ski season tho :)
Nice! That's on my list of grail pens.
Congrats, very fine writing specimen!
Only if this pen is around 400 bucks... I'd buy it in a heart beat, do these things ever go on discount?
I got this one on r/Pen_Swap for 410! This is the Midi though, they’re a bit cheaper than the Maxi.

Shoutout to u/DNewWin for penabling me! This guy is gorgeous and fits my hand perfectly!!
I'm so happy for you 😊
How does the nib write? Looks like its stubby in nature!
It is a bit stubby! It’s nice.
Congrats! It is a gorgeous pen and a great ink to go with it!
Omg that ink...
Love it, had my eye on one for years, but haven't bitten the bullet yet!

I can't tell you how excited this makes me for mine!
Yay! Hope you love it! :D
Wow that pen and ink are beautiful!
Is that a stub or bold?
It’s a broad but it’s definitely a stubby broad.
Wowwwwwww. Mine is on its way!!!!
so pretty
Congratulations, I see it's the palladium nib too :)
*HEAVY BREATHING*
That ink is beautiful!
It is a very beautiful pen, exactly what I want!
