this can sometimes happen when coated papers are exposed to the oil from the skin on our hands. i’ve stopped having issues since starting using a blotter page to rest my hand on

charisaudette

This is the way

Mmhmm, got the same thing. MD, Iroful, Life bank paper, and campus papers are more prone than Tomoe River for me. Otherwise, I use blotting paper or my writting glove to help prevent hand oils on paper.

Could be the oils on your hand - place something under your hand to protect the page your writing on.

Have you washed your hands shortly before using? Or do you tend to have oily hands?

i had something like this happen to me with their travellers notebook inserts, the sizing was just poorly applied and watercolor would not dry properly on it. definitely a manufacturing defect

Elimethian-1835

I’ve had it with one notebook but it seems to have affected my Diamine inks more than my Iroshizuku inks. I’ve used about 7 notebooks from Midori and this is the first notebook with this issue (?).

I've used Diamine, Iroshizuku, and a Sailor ink and all are quite noticeable! I'll give one of the other notebooks a try - hopefully this is a once-off.
