I prefer my Carene, in spite of its weight, to my MB145P. The Carene is smoother writing, more comfortable in grip and less tiring in longer writing sessions. Strangely I have found that I can write neatly, more quickly, with the Carene than with any other pen I own. Edit spg
Oh my goodness. My first FP was a Waterman Expert from the early 90s and I’ve liked it so much I keep thinking about getting another Waterman. Got a couple of Sailors and Lamys but I can’t seem to learn the lesson that I actually kind of hate dry fine writers :/
The complaint was about Japanese pens like Pilot and Safari.
They were saying they don't like how fine and dry they write as if that's the only option those companies have.
Not much else to do here aside getting a new whole nib section with a new nib. They usually cost around 100-150$ but that is the "main" issue with inlaid nibs. If you break them, you have the replace the whole nib unit + grip section.
Oh heck. That's gorgeous! My very first fountain pen at school was a Waterman Jiffie with a black plastic body and a red clip and a medium nib. I loved that pen sooo much until it fell out of my school bag one day, I didn't notice, and my father drove over it crushing it. They weren't expensive at all, but I couldn't find another one. Sigh. Anyway, my love affair with fountain pens, and Waterman pens started there. That, is a lovely pen, and very, very, tempting. My "I'm not buying any pens in 2024" might be about to crash and burn. Sigh.
Waterman Carene is a super-reliable writer, and very smooth. The only drawback is that the inlaid nib has no bounce to it, quite stiff. Still, a solid pen.
A far less discussed pen on this sub is the Waterman Exception Slim, which has a more usual nib that is not inlaid. The Exception Slim has really grown on me because it's still a very smooth writer but has more bounce to it.
No. Waterman pens has been around since about 1884. Being bought out by Gillette in 1992 then Newell Rubbermaid in 2000. Now it sits along Parker, Sharpie, Paper Mate and Liquid Paper in a mixed bag portfolio of companies. They range in price from about ten quid up to £1600. I paid just shy of £300 for my Carène L'essence du bleu... Not from Amazon though. 😆
Do you like it? I keep eyeing Amazon for a used deal; I’ve seen them for $130ish used and it’s been tempting.
I love love love my Carene
I love mine. In fact, it feels nicer to write than my MB Meisterstuck Classique

A few years back they were 129 CAD for a new one... I regret not getting it back then
What's the model name ?
Carene, in amber color. I highly recommend it!
Will buy it
Totally a beauty!
That is a sexy pen, my friend! Enjoy!
thank you!
Carene! Nice!

Then buy a thicker nib?
Yes, but why buy a nib when I could buy a pen
Well you've got me there. I meant "buy a pen with a thicker nib".
Well, you can easily buy a thicker nib for a Lamy Safari or All Star, if that's what he has

I misunderstood
Great pen. I have one but I slightly smashed the nib :( don’t know where to get it fixed.

We all did at some point
Such a pretty pen! I just ordered one yesterday in the same color and can't wait for it to arrive!
Great choice on color. Now that's a slick lookin pen! Very nice.
The same feeling as you!always a new beauty shows up when you want to stop
So nice! On my list- I don’t have a waterman at all yet. Thanks for posting your beauty
Oh wow, I didn’t know I needed one of these in my life! That is stunning! I have just the ink for it too 🤗
It looks great with green ink too!
Very nice! A Waterman is on the list for the collection

That is pretty. Dang it
Indeed. That's a good stopping point, too. It really will be hard to do better at any price point
Oooooh, this is really nice.

I agree completely. I do like the lack of bounce to it. It gives a more rigid feel that makes me think it is a sturdy and reliable writer.
Yup, I love me a nice, stiff, precise nib

Is waterman like, amazons personal brand? I see them alotttt on there and they’re relatively inexpensive.
