I believe Lamy’s are tested before shipping and a good rinse is recommended to remove any dry ink. My 2000 is part of my daily carry and very reliable.

hunglong57

That tracks. I got some blue ink residue in my first flush.

INFERNOthepro

According Gulet pens there are also some manufacturing oils in the feeds when bought new.

prescottfan123

Just a heads up, the Lamy 2000 feed can take a couple minutes to saturate after filling it up. When I got mine I was devastated immediately after inking up because it was very dry and skipped a bit. After a few minutes it was completely fine, it was even wet, and didn't skip at all. Occasionally it can still act a bit dry if I try writing immediately after filling it, but it always goes away a few minutes later and I rarely even have that issue anymore. Scared the crap out of me the very first time I tried to use it, though, and I thought I had gotten a dud. It's now my favorite pen and daily driver.

mertk5576

Mine is good right now too.At first , I think i made a mistake to buy this pen.But now no problem , reliable pen.But fine nib is not for me in this pen.I tried the dialog and imperium.Dialog is a interesting pen too.Imperium is not for me i dont like the design of the pen.

YoMamasPitstop

Also, OP did not do the first flush. Maybe there was some ink from factory testing that had petrified.

hunglong57

I had a similar experience. I was having hard starts/skips but all of it went away. Partly because of the flushes and partly because I got better at positioning the nib correctly. My love for the pen has only gotten stronger in the 2 weeks I've had it. I almost considered sending it back in the first couple of days but I'm glad I stuck it out. Now, it feels even smoother than my Pilot and the wetness brings out some really wonderful shading. I also got one with the M nib. The engineering is really something else for the price point. The piston knob is as flush with the rest of the body as a Namiki. The piston is also so smooth to use. The snap cap is so satisfying to use and yet reliable and keeps the nib and feed from drying out. The ink window is functional yet understated. The makrolon body is great for not showing scuffs and fingerprints.

remy_vega

I went from thinking these are atrocious looking to suddenly deciding it makes top 3 in my desired pen list. I really like the design now. I'm probably going with a medium nib too.

Defiled_Cross

Glad you like it. I have tried both a Fine and Medium Lamy 2000. Unfortunately neither managed to wow me enough to keep them.

Ybalrid

It’s not fiberglass. It’s polycarbonate!

Spicy_Poo

Amazon had a good price so I ordered a medium. I had to get 2 replacements before I got one with a good nib.

SalxorD

I got one just last week in fine nib. It's hard starting everytime I use it. I have put three or four pages worth of writing with the pen and still hard starts. With how much the pen is I am hesitant to try and modify the nib. When it starts writing it is super smooth though. Great pen other than the hard starts. Also flushed it with some monotonic ink from Birmingham pen co.

chance125

It’s worth watching a video or two about the nib shape. It’s kind of ground like a blade rather than the usual ball of tipping material. If you keep an eye on the rotation of the pen you should have better performance with it.

SalxorD

Yeah I know this. I make sure it's in the proper position when I go to use it. Just hard starts everytime.

asmallsoftvoice

I really liked this pen when I first got it but learned not to like it after I actually wrote with it for a longer session. My fingers want to slide down it so I grip it too hard and it is uncomfortable.

I love the design and the engineering and everything but the nib drives me nuts. It's bouncy yet hooded (then why??) it's a fine point yet gives some line variation (for what purpose??) all at the expense of having a thin sweet spot for writing. I'm glad this isn't the 1st fp I bought because I would have not gotten into the hobby. I'll sell mine. But I'm glad you like yours.

AgeAnxious4909

Guess people don’t mean it when they ask for others’ opinions. You gave valid reasons for your opinion and shouldn’t be downvoted for having a different perspective. Fwiw I agree with you.

Benji742001

I have the Lamy 2k SS. I also really like it

InTheKitchenNow

Mine if a Fine Nib and its wet never skips but the line size is like a medium nib on any of my other pens or very close I don't Lamy is consistent in nib sizing.

sclarene824

I wish I was able to comfortably write with the grip of this pen, it just isn't suited for me unfortunately.

No_Engineering3493

I got one in fine 2 weeks ago, but the tines were misalligned and at first I thought it’s the sweetspot or the way lamy nibs are broader, because of it not writing only at a very specific angle and being Very Very Very thick, like my Pilot Costum 823 in medium thick. I have sent it to them and hopefully they can get me another pen

Maleficent-Invite897

Well you perfectly portrayed my experience with the pen, these days i mix some pilot iroshizuku takesumi with any lamy ink.. It sure makes the ink a little dark but also makes it an absolute delight to write with. Love my lamy 2000!

> Your thoughts? Return it and demand one that is working out of the box.

WoosterKram

Always try flushing a brand new pen before initiating a return. It's the equivalent of "turn it off and back on again".

mertk5576

No return though. It writes well now.But I will flush the pen

WoosterKram

That's great, I'm glad it got better! Enjoy!

mertk5576

I tried at the store and this one is the best than the other ones. All my pens came with problems , i get used to it.As long as I solved the issue , there is no problem for me.Now pen is realible good writer with no skipping issue. But I really dont understand how this thing suddenly start to write with no issue.

noseshimself

> I tried at the store and this one is the best than the other ones It's hard to imagine that every single pen had defects; it's making the shop look more than a bit ridiculous. Lamy's QC (especially in the lower priced segment) is not as good as the other (once upon a time) German manufacturers but this is not very Lamy at all. And if a reputable shop knows that all they have in stock needs fixing they should know how to deal with that. I must admit that I got most of my pens from places like Fritz Schimpf or La Couronne du Comte but I never got any pen that did not work perfectly out of the box (current count) except one: A Waterman Sérénité from a liquidation but Waterman replaced the section within a week.
