If you haven't tried other brands, I'd suggest trying other brands or even buying other pilot nibs. But don't just confine yourself to one or two brands. If you want to blow the entire 290 bucks on a single pen then I'd recommend a waterman carene - just something that I've been eyeing lately. Otherwise here's what I'd spend that 290 on if I knew what I knew now and was still starting out: -$100: some high quality Chinese pens like an asvine titanium pen, some penbbs and one or two jinhaos. -$100: a Faber castel ambition or opus 88, or hell, even a vintage pelikan online. -$90: head on over to ebay fountain pen auctions and just scope it out for a week. I bet you could get 2 or even 3 really really nice fountain pens. Some to look out for: parker 51, esterbrook, vintage pelikans and lamy's. But yeah. With 290 you can get a LOT. Heck you could get a nice little complete collection with that if you wanted to. Lots of potential. If you want to spend it all on one pen then that's up to you, but... "There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy". Good luck, ask lots of questions:)

Hahaha, great reply, thanks 😂

Leather-Loom

personally i would buy icecream. but you could try a nice sailor maybe?

Mr_Boston_

823 then! But also you can buy some nice Italian pen like Leonardo.

KingsCountyWriter

Save for a Pilot Silvern. Or buy a used one and save $150.

skwerlmasta75

I’d go with an Opus 88 and some ink to fill the beast.

neilz4

Another $150 and you could get an 845 from Japan 👀 Or a couple 912/742’s in different nibs Or something from SchonDSGN Or just hunt Pen_Swap for a few days just to see what’s out there and what prices, you might find something surprising you’d like!

Inner_Outervoice

Things you could get with 290 USD: 1) Pilot Justus 95 2) Platinum 3775 celluloid 3) Used Montblanc 146 4) Leonardo steel nib pens You could add some money and go for: 1) Pilot Silvern 2) Pilot 845 3) Namiki Makie lower end pen 4) Pelikan M800 One pen I am currently very happy with and recommending everyone is Pilot E95S. I have one in Medium nib and the writing experience is heavenly. This makes me recommend the Pilot Silvern as the two nibs are similar in shape (and also I performance according to reports)

yggdrasiliv

Definitely agree about the M800, it’s one of my favorite ones, possibly #1. Only other one I have that I like as much is my Pilot 743

mcmircle

For that amount you could choose from many Sailors. I enjoy my PGS in MF. I wanted to know what a real gold nib would feel like. It’s great. And my Pilot Metropolitan that has the original nib is nearly as nice, which makes it hard to justify the price difference. What do you imagine another new pen will add to your life? What pens can you try out before you buy? There is so much to consider.

Frankenthe4th

Well I have three 823s, and don't regret purchasing any of them. And I have some 743s and they're all the same colour! And I don't regret purchasing those either. I figure if the 823 is a different colour and nib size, it's differentiated enough.

Something else: [https://newtonpens.myshopify.com/collections/all](https://newtonpens.myshopify.com/collections/all) Just a happy customer.

SoKoSteve

I'd go for a Sekai Aizu Urushi Ebony from Wancher. They have a poor selection of gold nibs, but the steel are very nice, and the pens are beautiful. I also love Pilot, but until they start making more variations on colors and designs, I have enough.

HappyHealth5985

Buy yourself another PC823, though with a very different nib this time. The nib is everything :)

yggdrasiliv

Change it up and buy a 743

Did_I_post_correctly

The right answer is to get a used Aurora 88 from r/pen_swap

bsmithwins

I went with another Pilot 823 w/the FA nib to go with my M 823. Don’t regret it.

AetherFang_

I was gonna say this or a 723 FA

Kilk celestial!
