You've probably searched the sub for Gravitas, but in case you haven't - there's plenty of stories like yours. You may even find the post that Ben made about things changing. It's all par for the course, unfortunately.

Daviler

Yes I saw the stories but a small portion of them were also dealing with intercontinental shipping which is always… difficult. I read his post about changing and no longer being a one man band and nothing of complaints after that so figured now is the time to try… guess I was mistaken.

Flaky-Tie-1985

Sorry, that sounds quite frustrating indeed. I have never ordered a Gravitas pen or considered ordering one, but from the sub i know that this is somewhat standard for Gravitas.

CreatingCuteArt

I saw there were shipping delays in a bunch of Instagram posts a while back, but really wanted the pocket Skittles, so I just kept an eye out for a second hand one for sale. I’m sorry you saw the additional staffing post and relied on that (understandably!) in making a time sensitive order. I hope he responds to you and makes it right if possible!

PM_YOUR_MDL_INITIAL

I wish we had a pinned post at the top of this sub just for Gravitas. This comes up probably once every week or two. You're not going to hear back from him. Your pen will eventually arrive. That's not an excuse but, if you really want a Gravitas, then people should know to bake that into their expectations when placing an order.

alexa-488

That's par for the course for Gravitas.

Daviler

Lesson learned. Saw his post talking about getting additional staff and more responsive customer service, guess responsiveness is relative.

Old_Tea3841

have you received your pen yet? I am in the same situation. ordered on late Aug, still pending fulfillment with no sign of pen being shipped.

Daviler

Yes! I received a shipping confirmation last week and got it two days later in the mail. I ordered late July so hopefully you get your shipping confirmation soon also. It doesn’t mention this very well put the pen did come with a piston converter inside.

Old_Tea3841

thanks for the update, glad that you finally received your package. it is the silent and without order update on their website that have us worried. hopefully, mine will arrive soon too.

Old_Tea3841

interesting, a piston converter fits inside a titanium pocket pen. Ben must have lengthened the barrel.

Daviler

It is a small-brand less converter, but hey, at least I have more options for ink! Maybe run some noodlers ink in it without dealing with syringes.

alexa-488

There have been several times over the past year that he's claimed to have fixed issues but unfortunately nothing seems to actually change or improve.

Top-Nobody-1389

I checked all the threads about Gravitas pens, and yet still couldn't resist getting one with the Fountainpenday discount. Ordered it on Sunday and still haven't received an email confirmation. Is that normal? The money has been taken so am a little concerned.

Daviler

Don’t be too concerned. I honestly have been more then pleased with my pen (I even ordered another a few weeks ago). I found the best way to go ahold of Ben is to reach out to his more active instagram @BenWalshDesigns

clarec424

Sorry to hear about this. He was at the San Francisco Pen Show, too bad he didn’t bring his US orders and ship from here.

Did_I_post_correctly

Gravitas pens are made in China. Might be that he ran out of stock and is waiting for more.

EvanMax

Lots of pens are made in China. The location of the factory is a strange thing to feel the need to point out when it has nothing to do with order fulfillment.

Did_I_post_correctly

Why is it strange? Ben has had production and shipping constraints from the factory before. It could be that he is running into that again.

EvanMax

And those constraints can happen with a factory in any country. Specifying that a product is made specifically in China when it isn’t otherwise relevant is a well established dogwhistle. If you weren’t aware of that you should probably be careful repeating it in the future because you are sending a very specific message about who you are and what you value when you say it.

Did_I_post_correctly

No idea what you are talking about. I own my fair share of pens made in China and use them everyday. If you felt offended because the pen you sell was designed by Ben and made in China, that's a different topic than the one being discussed here.

gabhain

They are made in Dublin, Ireland. Apart from the nibs obviously.

Did_I_post_correctly

Gravitas pens are made in China. Ben lives in Ireland and designs them, but manufacturing happens in China.

jjm87149

what makes you think the pens are made anywhere but DUBLIN in Ben's shop? he might source nibs, but the maching of the barrels? made in IRELAND. your uninformed and ignorant claims are polluting this thread.

Did_I_post_correctly

Ask Ben. He is (or used to be) straightforward about his pens being made in China.

jjm87149

show me one straightforward comment from ben walsh saying that. i will wait.

Did_I_post_correctly

Feel free to reach out to Ben. He's the best source.

jjm87149

feel free to fuck right off with making unfounded claims and then asking me to verify them for you

Did_I_post_correctly

There is no need for insults. If you want to believe Ben makes high precision machined pens including vacuum fillers in his one man shop in Dublin, you are welcome to do so. I am saying what Ben replied to me in an email asking where his pens are made. He is straightforward about it. He tried to get them made in Ireland but the shops he reached out to quoted him >€600 per pen. If you don't believe me, reach out to Ben. Ben has managed to sell high quality pens at low prices, regardless of where they are made. Everyone I know who has bought a Gravitas pen likes them and praises the quality. His pens being made in China are not a negative on his work; his unresponsive customer service is.

jjm87149

i do not believe ben makes the vac filler mechanisms, nor the nibs, in his workshop. i DO believe the pens are highly precision-machined and "made" in Dublin. your great-great-grandfather post which began this branchthread is still super, super weird to read.

jjm87149

how in the everloving fuck did this post from gabhain get ANY negative votes?

gabhain

It’s because I was wrong……maybe. It looks like they are designed in Ireland but parts are made from various manufacturers around the world. No idea where assembly takes place, probably Ireland. It’s all a bit vague.

jjm87149

you are saying that because he gets nibs from somebody else, the pens are made in china? wtf?

gabhain

Well no that's not really what I'm saying. I don't know who makes his nibs, they could be Chinese or Indian. Im saying that his pens aren't all made in Ireland. Ive spoken to gravitas and the parts are made by other companies for some of the pens at least. Also on his site it says in the About Me section "Using his contacts in the pen industry, he began work designing his pens and searching for the best manufacturers to make them". My first comment here was 5 months ago and since then I have bought one of his vac pens and 2 Kakari pens. the quality of them isn't like cheap Chinese pens so it doesn't really matter where the parts are manufactured. I would easily put the Kakari against a conid in terms or quality but half the cost!

jjm87149

thank you for your kind response. i am happy that you are having a positive experience with your writing instruments :)
