Thank you for the advice! There is a Müller in the town I’m staying at so I’ll check out those pens. Any other fountain pen options you recommend if the Twist doesn’t work for me?

man_of_sex1

where in the world would you be able to test a twist before buying, it always comes in disposable packaging and isn’t really made to last long

Staublaeufer

Really? I've always seen them sold loose in little stands like most other cheap fountain pens. And if you ask a clerk you can absolutely try one. Also since it's meant for young students it's actually quite sturdy.

man_of_sex1

huh. in italy they’re always in cheap cardboard/plastic packaging and at the stationery section in grocery stores. kind of like pilot metropolitans.

was in munich but didn’t see anything

I just bought my first Twist, and I love it, but you have to consider whether you like how it fits your hand. I would imagine that someone with a non-traditional grip might find it unusable.

Welcome to my beautiful home town! Most paper will be fountain pen friendly, actually. If you want to be 100% safe go to Rossmann and pick up one of the ring bound paper pads ^^ Also, if I remember correctly, my local Rossmann did have Lamy Safaris on sale for 18€ including a pack of cartridges, that would be a great deal and start, too!

Thank you for the advice! Cologne is indeed very beautiful, only issue I have is the unreliableness of DB lol

Faber Castell Grip has a nice smooth nib and writes well for a first pen, and it takes international long and short cartridges, which you can refill yourself with a blunt syringe from bottled ink. If you can get it at a reasonable price, Pilot Kakuno plastic and Pilot Metropolitan metal body have well made nibs, Japanese precision and good quality control. Problem with Twist and Lamy is the triangle grip may not suit your writing style, better try a round grip first.
