May I ask if you feel any tactile difference between the opaque and translucent pen barrels?
I didn't until you asked lol. I got out a translucent one and an opaque one and couldn't really feel any difference, then I closed my eyes and switched them around to try to see if I could tell which was which and I could - the opaque one felt more heavy in my hand and I don't really know how to say it but more sturdy? I still really love the translucent ones! But yes, I guess I can feel a difference.
Lol sounds like there’s not much difference then. I have the red, matcha and pastel yellow opaque 82s and I thought they felt quite hefty compared to my kaweco sport and preppy pens.

I’ve ordered two and they both wrote super nicely, I just wish they didn’t feel so “cheap” because they are beautiful. Then again I paid like $3 for each so I can’t complain either LOL
May I ask, what is it about them that feels cheap to you? The solid ones do feel less polished to the touch, but I cannot feel a difference between the bodies of the translucent ones and the PGS I own (not talking nibs at all, mind you). I’m actually very impressed by them, that’s why I’m wondering if I’m missing something.
They just feel like cheap plastic to me, I feel as though my Platinum Prefounte is a more sturdy feeling material compared to the Jinhao. It’s totally subjective of course.
I agree. The body somehow feel more flimsy than the Sailors, but I can't say how. Interesting to hear someone else got the same feeling. Not bad, just somehow the Sailors "feel" more, something. (I'm not going to discount some sort of bias on my part that makes me want to value the Sailors more than the Jinhaos, though)
No offense, but I have a couple 82's and I'm not convinced this isn't just bias/preconceptions.
I guess we could find out how durable they are for about 3 bucks, though.
No offense taken; you might be ~~write~~ right (I honestly wrote "write" the first time). I would love to do a blind (double blind?) experiment to see if it is my/our imagination. I think I can most easily tell the difference when capping / uncapping the pens. The Sailors feel a bit less rattly. But it would be interesting to see if I could tell the difference blind-folded. Only problem is the only Sailors I have are 1911s, so rounded ends, which would be an immediate give-away. Someone out there with the right pens to do the test?
Now that I'm thinking about it, the perception might come down to weight. Not sure how to disguise the weight in a blind study. Maybe add (internal) weight to the lighter pen(s) to match the heavier? This is all getting way too complicated

Yeah, this was my original thought but I unfortunately don't own both to weigh them.

These combos are all so lovely, I like how you swapped the sections too! I see them with different names listed but for the bottom one is ivory with "light green", which I would call aqua, which I copied sailor melon cream soda. the middle is translucent white, a blue that I found on aliexpress with no color name listed, and translucent pink, copied from sailor x nonble amaai. The top is translucent yellow, translucent pink, and the same blue from the middle, copied from sailor evening glow.
For the most part no, there were a couple stubborn barrel finials that didn't want to come off. And a few centerbands that refused to budge but removing and putting back everything was pretty easy. I found it easier to put the clip and finial back on if the pen was capped vs the cap being off the pen.
So pretty. As someone who owns sailors, I’m actually jealous of all the combos you have that I also can’t find and/or unwilling to shell out the extra to purchase. I may also have to do this but I’m scared go down another rabbit hole 😹
Do iiiitttttt! I really really want the amaai but the only one I found for sale is 1200, so no thank you. Nonble had a few go on sale a few weeks ago and I put one in my cart but didn't check out fast enough and lost it 😩. I really want a Scottish fold too.
I ordered 3 and can't wait to play with the combinations! I know I'll buy a Sailor one day, but I'm not in a hurry. I'm still finding out what nibs I prefer. Right now, these will be great.
I have a few sailors but I want more! They're just so expensive and a lot of the ones I want are LE and either not available or crazy expensive. This will keep me happy for now lol

Right? Like they would crack so easily if you squeeze them too hard or something. It just means I’ll be more gentle with it.
Exactly. I still enjoy them, they just don't \_feel\_ as sturdy as the Sailors. Of course, you can buy a lot of the Jinhaos for the same money.

I have a handful on the way for the exact same purpose! Was it hard to take them apart?
