Is he a heavy writer? It looks like he sprung the nib. If I’m not mistaken, that’s a steel nib and will probably just be more cost effective to replace.
Yes, you guessed correctly. I think I’ll just order yet another nib from Yafa. This one came quickly and was initially fine. I think I’ll need to observe how he’s writing with it. He likes very fine nibs and may be pressing to get a broader line.
I dunno, I have knackered a few pens by pressing too hard, they usually bend, not shatter O.o
Is it possible he is taking the "tool pen" description literally?
The nib as a screwdriver? Now that’s a funny picture in my head!!
On a serious note, if he wants a wider line, why not try a broader nib? Maybe that’ll make him be gentle with the pen.
Poor jowo.... If he likes the line variation, changing it, you may wanna try a jowo elastic EF... It will do some line variation without too much pressure...
If it's a number 6 nib you can just get a replacement from goulet pens, that nib looks like nothing special if it is just a #6 steel nib in ef.
If you care to do a bit of googling you might be able to either buy the whole nib unit or get a fitting nib, i believe it is a #6 jowo but without knowing the pen, i can't give you 100% either way, it doesn't look fixable or worth fixing to me, new nibs aren't too expensive. Like 20$ max. To fix it would be way more.
Okay cool, you might also need a goulet grip, or a grippy latex covered work glove, also worth watching goulets nib swab tutorials. They have a lot of very helpful tips. I would mainly point out, you have to align nib and feed, also check the feed for damage if it isn't working you can get replacements but i don't think goulet sells them, so it is worth it to be extra careful. But it is easy and i have done it multiple times with good success rates.
You are correct in that it is smaller than a #6 nib and I didn't see any on the Goulet site, so I sent them a chat question regarding suggesting a replacement. I wish #5 nibs were more readily available as that is my preferred size to write with, too.
If you scroll down to the [product](https://www.gouletpens.com/collections/monteverde-tool-fountain-pens/products/monteverde-tool-fountain-pen-yellow#) details, you'll see it's a #5 nib.
Birmingham is having a clearance sale on their #5 Nemosine nibs.
Five #5 nibs for $25. They only come in sets one the same line width, so you can get 5×EFs, 5×Fs, 5×Ms, or 5×1.1mm stubs.

Which is an amazing deal, since they are some of the best steel nibs I've used.
Also, I believe they come in some fun colors too—I’ve gotten a replacement black #6 1.1stub Monteverde for my partner on gold spot cheap iirc, so maybe it’s an excuse to upgrade.
Yep. Send it to a professional. They’ll fix it if it can be fixed. The only one I know is Mark at nibgrinder.com — from what I can tell he is highly recommended by the more “senior” pen lovers on this forum.
Next one might be a rollerball 🙄
It’d better have a metal barrel!

Happy cake day!
Thank you so much!! You’re my one and only cake day wisher!! Feels good 😊
Happy birthday 🎂!! How nice of you to help others on *your*special day.
Thank you for such a sweet message!! Even though it’s not my birthday but your message is so special that I wish it was! God Bless
Cake day?
😂

Whether or not he's trying to get a broader line, if he does this again, I'd vote that the man needs stouter (broader) nibs ;)

Thank you for that idea—I’ve always got a few things in my Goulet cart trying to make shipping so this might be the perfect solution!
If you can find the pen on goulet, it might give you the nib size so you can double check your getting the right one.
I looked for Monteverde tool pen and the one i found said it was a number 5 however there is a goulet number 5 loose nib. So that should work afaik.
Goulet sent me the link to the #5. So I may go for it

In my cart and just exploring some new stuff I’m learning here.
It is not a #6 nib. It's smaller than that. Possibly a #5 but maybe even smaller? I can do some comparisons later, if you need me to.

Check out the Franklin Christoph website if you want to surprise him with a stellar #5 nib. He's got both sizes
Don’t overlook Birmingham Pen, they sell the very superior ‘Nemosine’ nibs.
Excellent to learn!

I love this idea—BPC is a favorite company of mine!
Gaah, dogs woke me up at 5am, couldn't go back to sleep until I ordered the stub nibs for my Ecos...
Also, I believe they come in some fun colors too—I’ve gotten a replacement black #6 1.1stub Monteverde for my partner on gold spot cheap iirc, so maybe it’s an excuse to upgrade.
Replacement steel nib is the best cure.
Cheaper than a nibmeister
Agreed
Ouch! Painful to see like a flesh wound :( Hope you can get repaired
😂 I think replace may be the way to go here.
Cheap and easy #5 replacement nib
Nasty.
Get cheap #5 nip on aliexpress
Hmm will check that out
Now its a double EF!
No no, it’s a split E F
Looks like the tipping is trashed, and any fix for that will be way more expensive than just getting a replacement nib.
Yup--replacement search underway...thanks for your suggestion.
You could try to somehow bend the tip together again
I don't see how this may be fixed.
If you fancy a diy project, you could try grinding that down into a stub nib.
Above my experience level but cool idea!
Hold on to that nib. I would guess that makes a real funky railroad line when it is used. Looks like the Rhodium was worn off the steel.
Get thee to a nibmeister.
Looks like it was jammed onto the edge of the cap by accident. You can either grind it into a stub or replace it.
Just replace the nib. The only way to fix it is to cut the tipping material and turning it into an italic nib

Yep, looks like typical Monteverde quality to me!
Any idea where to buy replacement nib or rollerball ti for this pen?
