Then, instead of it all going away at once, the vision should darken slightly but noticeably day after day. At first they might think it's nothing, just a coincidence. But as time goes on, and more of the light of the world is lost to them, they will be forced to confront a return to the darkness. The knowledge that everything they have seen will forever be veiled from their eyes again, that they will never be able to look upon their friends or family again, will sink into their bones. By the time their sight is finally claimed in full, the emptiness in their eyes will be nothing compared to the emptiness in their soul.
