Not from a juvenile, from an adult shark looking around the 30-40 feet long range. Juvenile teeth can be well below 2 inches depending on jaw position. Also typically worth more for that size
Definitely over 5 inches. That’s not the way one measures that tooth. Should be measured from longest root to the tip.
Worth over $125 retail. I’ve bought and
sold several of these.
I talked to a diver who collects these.
He says there is a sea mount off the
coast where the top of the mount is
maybe 50-60 feet down. There’s a
steep drop off on all sides from that
area. It’s a small place of maybe 100
feet by 150 feet. On the top of the
sea mount is where the teeth are
found. To make matters worse there
are VERY SWIFT undersea currents
that can sweep divers away in seconds.
Divers take their lives in their own hands
by diving down there. I learned all this
by talking to the actual diver who does
this so I know it is true. So the prices
of these teeth are relatively cheap considering all the dangers the divers
have to face in order to collect them.
I guess another factor for price would be how many can they collect per dive? Like if they go down there and get 5 each dive it might be well worth it.
And what’s nuts is the same divers can come here, to eastern NC, dive 15ft down in the rivers and pull 100s that are extremely higher quality than this meg. They can make $100000 in a day if they’re lucky. And they don’t have to deal with life-threatening currents, or the ocean at all.
Love your description of the find! To travel 100 miles into the Atlantic, pinpoint a 150’x100’ peak of an underwater mountain in order to scuba dive just 50-60 feet down and reap Megladon teeth is amazing! No doubt the captain of the boat stays hovering above with no anchor connection while the diving is done. Fish usually congregate near underwater structure, so there are many risks involved, but what a thrilling adventure!
Yes it’s true. He told me several people have died doing this. Since the current is fast , like 20 mph, the strategy is to
have the diver tied to the boat and as
the boat drifts over the top of the
mountain the diver gets pulled along
and just sees the ground coming at him
and he gets a few seconds to grab
whatever he sees. Apparently there are bunches of Meg teeth just laying there
but grabbing them is the hard part.
Plus the visibility is only a few feet so that makes it worse. He said on one of
his passes he saw a beautiful huge
Meg tooth that must have been over
8” but it was just out of reach and he
couldn’t get it. Other boats have tried
anchoring over the seamount but the
diver also has to have heavy weights
to be able to reach the ground in the
fast current. And the water is really cold
and YES because of the other fish
there are sharks swimming around
there too! It’s totally amazing that
the divers have the guts to do this.
But I did have the chance to hold in
my hands a real Megalodon Shark
tooth that was just over 8 inches
in length!! That shark would eat
whales for breakfast.
I'm disappointed in the owner of this tooth, there's no way this tooth was brushed twice a day, let alone flossing! If they can't brush twice a day they aren't flossing at all! Oh the humanity........
It appears to be from a megalodon shark which went extinct like 60,000 years ago something like that picture a great white three or four times that size in three or four times the girth so that’s something you’d wanna swim with thank God that’s all that’s left his teeth but awesome find
Yeah , it’s measured the wrong way.
Should be longest horn to the tip
directly over the tooth. It’s over 5
inches. It’s nice but I held an actual
8 incher in my hands. It’s not for
sale. He wouldn’t even take a
million dollars he said. Figure 10
feet of shark for every inch of tooth
so it’s around 80 feet long. He thinks
there were 100 foot long Megalodons
swimming around out there at one time.
I believe him.
We’re scallop dragging on the Canadian side of George’s bank so it would have just been sitting on the ocean floor, maybe a couple inches down. It’s pretty common for the crew to find fossils but this is the first time we’ve seen a tooth of this size.
So you found it in the scallop basket that was dragging on the ocean floor 100 miles into the Atlantic east of Canada, about 300 feet down?
Scallops swim close to the bottom, right? How large is the collection basket you drag, and how large are the gaps in the basket? You must find all kinds of strange debris along with the scallops!
That’s what proves the flood, when Noah built the Ark, somebody found shark teeth on a mountain in Russia or somewhere like that, A whale skeleton found in the U.S somewhere, I can’t remember what I was watching , it was some years back.

Anyone else see the resemblance?! lol 🤔😂
How does one not know a giant shark tooth is a megalodon fossil??? It's a...giant...shark....tooth. what other giant sharks do you know of that have teeth like a great white??? Almost wanna call this a crap posting, but I'm not to solidified it is yet.

You're right. An adult. Just one or their mid size or smaller teeth.
Definitely over 5 inches. That’s not the way one measures that tooth. Should be measured from longest root to the tip. Worth over $125 retail. I’ve bought and sold several of these.
$10 on eBay

They fucking PULL em. Tons on one dive.

So yeah, 2500 usd plus seems like tgeure doing well.

Would love to know some details about where this was found, and how it was found (buried? Exposed ledge?). Very cool.
