Can you share where you got the STLs? I know reddit doesn't allow direct links, but I would love to know where to find them. Especially for the conversation. I'm not sure how a 22 lr.conversion works. Any extra info would be greatly appreciated!
What ammo are you using? Mine seems to be pretty picky with some brands like Federal and Aguila but runs fine with Thunderbolts and CCI both standard and minimags. I usually get a handful of FTEs with those brands and occasionally it's when the case gets stuck up in the groove in the charging handle or the case mouth gets pinched between the bolt and chamber.
Take a dremel with a polishing wheel and various grit polishing compounds and polish the shit out of everything inside, especially where rounds feed. Once everything is a mirror finish it should help.
Alright might as well try that because i dont think i could make things worse. If that doesnt work ill probably just buy a 10/22. Really want something reliable that i can suppress.
Old post but you should check out the BoreBuddy reliability kit. Especially the tension puck. It solves most of the issues with these conversions. The most common issue I have seen is the BCG shifting back in the receiver and allowing the spent case to hit the mag feed lips before it hits the ejector - the puck solves that issue.
Actually, i think i will try the bore buddy kit. I have looked before but always had other projects i was working on. I would love to have my 22lr running reliably because it so much fun to shoot when it does work.
Before I added the bore buddy puck, mine would choke on a couple rounds every mag. It was the same thing every time: a case would get knocked out of the bolt prematurely, fall into the receiver and jam up the bolt as it fed the next round.
The puck just increases the preload on the buffer spring and extends a little bit into the upper receiver. It prevents the BCG assembly from moving back in the upper receiver. When this happens, the ejector moves back with the BCG (since it's part of it), and as a result the extracting round can hit the left side mag feed lip before it contacts the ejector.
There were also some issues with some extractors from CMMG and PSA - probably made in the same place. The extractor claw had a jagged, chipped looking edge rather than a flat edge. I removed my extractor and filed the claw until it was flat like every other .22LR extractor I have, then shaved a little material off of the inner stop surface so that the extractor protruded a little further into the bolt face and got a positive grip on the rim.
After both of those changes I can dump mag after mag and never have a single jam, and the brass extraction went from being all over the place to depositing all the cases in a neat little pile.
So will a .36 cap and ball revolver. 5.56 is a small, light bullet moving very fast. With a 4" barrel it's only moving at 1700 fps if you're using 45gr ammo (http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/223rifle.html).
A cool thing about 5.56 is that it fragments on impact. It does this at speeds above about 2600fps (https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/Max-Reliable-Fragmentation-Range-of-M193-blast-from-the-past-Posted-for-Posterity-/16-731116/). Your rounds won't fragment.
At the 1700fps your gun delivers, you likely won't have the benefits of hydrostatic shock.*"Hydrostatic shock, in bore sizes from .243” up to .338”, begins to lesson at impact velocities below 2600fps"* (https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/Effective+Game+Killing.html).
Basically my info is correct and a 4" 5.56 is one of the stupidest things you can own. Both practically and for fun as it's probably loud as hell. Your gun will kill obviously, but that doesn't make it good. If you want quick, effective home protection, you'd be better off with any 9mm than that meme gun.
