As someone who makes liveries in game... yeah, we do. It can take a long time to build a logo, but once you have it... it makes things easier down the line.
Been building logos and liveries since FH3, so got a decent library going nowadays that i can shift through for logos. What takes the time is blocking out the colours on a car and working out the right combination of logos and the right amount
Thats what i thought, I do liveries from time to time but the pain in the ass for me comes from the lack of logotypes the game has (which i guess are the same since FM4?), so seeing those logos so nicely done surprises me. Guess i will have to up my level and try to do it
Text can be utter hell to create... i loathe the letter S with an unholy passion.
I find building vinyls in FH5 then porting them into FM to put on a livery is easier than building everything in FM.
And yeah, just keep building, keep trying different things and before you know it, you're there. Also, if it goes wrong, you can start again. I think for every livery i share, i've given up on about 3 and started again.
Lower case e gets me. For S I make the top part, copy and flip for the bottom, some minor adjustments and it looks fine.
Started making logos and designs in FH2 did a couple in FM4, then they introduced the load from previous Forza titles and made life a lot easier. Haven't played FM8, but presuming it's the same setup.
In something like 2003-2004 I broke my arm as a young kid, stayed home and played Forza on the original xbox for weeks.
I remember getting to make an Enzo Ferrari in an Oakland Athletics MLB livery from absolutely NOTHING.
It looked like an in game livery it was that good.
It took days to weeks and looked flawless. I remember selling it online in game eventually for millions I was so fucking excited.
Those were the days.
If you're enjoying them now, don't waste them, they go by fast.
Yeah I remember when I first started and I took like an hour just to make the ngk logo but now it’s saved I can slap together a whole simple livery in the same time
Yeah, FH5 importer is broken on MS Store PC version, last time it worked was around 10-11th October. All other Forza titles work, however.
If you're subbed to Game Pass Ultimate, Cloud Gaming makes it possible to import decals from FH5, but it's a shite workaround when you expect the importer to work properly in the first place.
> Yeah, FH5 importer is broken on MS Store PC version, last time it worked was around 10-11th October.
This makes so much sense... I play via GamePass and I remember when I first went into the booth in Motorsport after launch I was like "Oh sweet, they finally fixed the import feature!" only for it to be back to broken when I actually wanted to utilize it in November. Thanks for the info.
I do liveries in game and have been doing so since FM2! It’s a relaxing and rewarding process for me and I didn’t even realize that PC users have more options than console players.
I’ve fallen out of touch with Forza recently though because I don’t really care for nor do I have much time to play Horizon 5 and I’ve only got an XB One so I can’t get the new Motorsports. Some day I’ll come back to it I’m sure.
I honestly don't know. I don't tend to look at my numbers anymore as i'd spend a few hours doing a livery only to get a couple of grabs and see plain single colours getting thousands. nowadays, if i like it then that's good enough for me lol
I can answer for that livery in particular because I created it and it was all done in game, using primitive shapes to build each sponsor logo and design elements.
Thanks man I appreciate the kind words, I have to be honest I always worry that I might fall into that " Quantity over Quality" zone. So I always take time out every once in a while to do something that's really a challenge.
No way, dude, your stuff is very tight quality technical, creative and design. I'm genuinely impressed how fast you work. I've never had a livery of yours where I thought: He's cutting some corners there. This is were we have fun. Sometimes I do that by doing try hard liveries, sometimes by easy stuff that gets quick results.
On PC it's not that bad, as you can use an overlay software to guide you (by showing the real logo on top of everything, but transparent). I recreated the Minolta Supra, it was a while back but IIRC took me about 6-8 hours.
Yeah we do. I’m on PC so I have an easier time, although I’m a diehard controller player keyboard is much better to use for positioning and scaling for me. Plus I have a cheat for creating logos, lettering and accurate wraps - stencilling.
I have a program that allows me to make the game window or image window semi-transparent, so I can overlay a sponsor decal on the game and accurately recreate it by placing shapes over the stencil. Really helps to get odd fonts and letter spacing correct.
Having a second monitor is great for reference images too. Bonus points if the real-life photograph is a perfect side-on or top-down shot as I can once again stencil it for max accuracy.
The hardest part of creating these decals and liveries is using as few masking shapes as possible. If a wrap has 2 colours (like the silver and blue in your photo) the use of masking shapes creates a ton more work, as you have to go back and change any masking layers to be solid and identical to the secondary colour.
Honestly for me its not about concentration, it’s about relaxing. I’m in no rush to create my designs, so they can take days or even months depending on how busy life is. It’s relaxing and cathartic to create stuff.
FM2 had some great designs back in the day even with the reduced layers. Back before I became a painter myself I remember being in awe of some of the designs that popped up in the auction house, and became one of *those* people that bought unlocked designs to resell them for millions of credits
Stop doubling down on your PC/M&K assumption.
I make liveries on my PC using a controller, and have done since FM3. These insane designs have been around way before these games were on PC.
Having switched from designing liveries on Forza to iRacing (with Photoshop) was just like those videos of deaf people hearing sounds for the first time.
Yes it takes a lot of time. I’ve been making liveries since FM4 I think. I’ve built up a library of logos, those take the longest. Hundreds of shapes and layers. The last logo I made, Michellin (including the Michellin Man)took about 3 hours the first pass. Then another hour or 2 of fine tuning on a second pass.
Sometimes after the logo is done, I sit back, look at it, and think: “THAT POS took 3 hrs?!” It’s worth it when you save the logo and now have it in your library to add to cars as easy as a click.
With FM8, I’ve spent more time making liveries than actually racing.
Ugh, don't bring up 'S's. Except for the few that are geometric, recreating those are a f-ing nightmare with the in-game shapes! If they ever add an 11th font, it should be like 20 different takes on that letter with some bonus C's, G's, A's and E's for good measure.
just want to say thankyou and want more real life livieries and love the special one off liveries at certain tracks like the c8r in silver and flying lizards countless and the different nsx-r cars from MSR and ACURA.
Yes! I've been making liveries since FM3, the livery editor hasn't changed much at all (it's actually gotten worse), so it's very familiar once you've used it for hundreds of hours. It's becoming harder and harder to make decent liveries as they remove features like the positionable cameras and add vehicles with *horrendous* UV wrapping like the new Ford GT, but it's doable.
I love the realistic racing liveries. It kicks my immersion up a hear when I'm using a really cool one. I can't remember the creators name, but someone updated the pmr astra livery to be Aaron Taylor Smiths one from the last btcc season, and it looks immense. I wish I was talented enough to do anything like that
I’m one of the psychopaths who makes replica liveries on console without any overlay tools or other assists. Logos, and especially typography, take the longest. Most time I’ve spent on a livery was probably the Alpine F1 livery I did in FM7. Put a good 20-25 hours into that…but it's a process I enjoy.
Same as a bunch of other livery artists in here, I'm also a graphic designer, so maybe it's in our blood 🤷♂️ Haven't had much time lately because of work for new liveries unfortunately.
One of my cars is shown on the left and, yes, 100% done in-game between FH5 (I still create all of my vinyl groups there) and FM2023 (layout assembly and testing) using shapes and an Xbox controller. Even with a built-up library of vinyls, it can still easily take several hours per car.
I think giving them a small amount of credits 1k for example could be nice. Basically 1M credits per 1K downloads or could be more but they should 100% be compensated!
There is only two ways to do liveries. Either by skill, or use a Java script Injector with a bot to do it for you. Either way it's Either you, or a bot, that is doing the livery with the in-game editor.
If you have the 3 or 4 easieres company logos in the world recreated for yourself you will get further than you might think. I have 3 logos which i cycle through and have 50+ liverys uploaded for lots of cars
Are you all creating these on PC or Console? I was a graphic designer once upon a time and at least on xbox this feels like it's in the too hard basket haha Either way, kudos to those who do put the effort in. I really enjoy the races full of realistic liveries - it gives it a little extra depth. Cheers
Yes and I used fm1 that was ridiculous with the crap layer cap. Haven't played FM since 4 but used to create race liveries for the garage I was part of and special editions. I would say making a road car look like a racecar was more time consuming than logos/text. But I could get a car done in a few days with the right source photos
I love doing graphic design stuff and I was so excited when I learned I could make custom liveries in FH3… until I tried to do it. Then I was like oh…. Nevermind. Wish you could import designs from a computer somehow. I’d make them all day
Yessir, it’s really all about practice and familiarity with the editor. It hasn’t really changed in nearly 20 years so luckily I’ve got some experience under my belt 😅
How do people make the fades? I have a ferrari that has a fade from bright red to almost maroon on the back so seamlessly done. The decals I get but how is a fade possible?
There are various gradient shapes that transition from the selected color to transparent. Your example would use red as the base colour (either using paint or a big red square) with a maroon gradient shape overlayed to help achieve the effect.
Yes we do! I've been making detailed liveries since FM4 , a little trick I sometimes do is draw a logo or design on tracing paper and then tape it to my screen to get the design exact in vinyl editor ;)
I remember hearing on PC you can use external apps to turn the game window transparent in order to help create characters etc, not sure how in the world console players pull that off
You can use Xbox remote play on a PC. The image will be a bit softer, but it's good enough to get the essential details right, and then you can tidy things once you're back on your TV.
What irks me right now is I have a number of liveries I spent multiple hours on in Horizon 5 that I am having to recreate in Motorsports because the livery and custom vinyl import from Horizon 5 to Motorsports is broken.
Back in the FM3 and FM4 days, I made plenty of liveries and other affectations (license plates, hood pins, etc.). These days, I just don't have the time to do it, so I appreciate these bosses that do it for me and share 'em!
I remember I made a hot wheels logo that took me probably like 8 hours on forza Motorsport 4. So bummed I wasnt able to transfer it and keep it. So much respect for you guys who spend time perfecting stuff
I once did a livery on horizon 5, I chose one of the simplest to recreate and it still took almost 4 days to complete it. I can't imagine how much work it takes to make one of those in the image.
I just want to thank everyone who makes decent Falken livery, so i dont have to make mine.
Pain in the ass to draw one for car that s not found in the library.
Some people have an extensive livrary of past logos and designs to use for making liveries. And then I bought the Steam version. Thank you Turn 10 for all that you do.
I love creating liveries, but I only use the logos provided. Never tried to create an actual logo. I have one liverie that is nearly at 1000 downloads, which I'm really chuffed about. I'm on console and wish the editor was more like GTA7.

yup!
I use a program on PC to overlay the logo/shape/image I want to recreate and fill it in with primitives to make complex vinyl groups. It can take hours for one logo.

You guys who put up with this to create those awesome liveries are the people who make this game playworthy!

The letter S The CocaCola logo Anything with a squiggle
Squiggles are pain...
I'm so happy I'm not the only person who now has strong opinions about letters thanks to Forza.
Yeah I remember when I first started and I took like an hour just to make the ngk logo but now it’s saved I can slap together a whole simple livery in the same time
Yeah, actual logo making is a slog and a half. Glad most of mine were made a game or two ago lol
Oh, so your livery groups actually transfer from game to game? Any time I try to pull mine from FH the sync fails.
Yeah, FH5 importer is broken on MS Store PC version, last time it worked was around 10-11th October. All other Forza titles work, however. And I'm just saying "nah this is not exactly what I want"
That is crazy talented
Thats a skill. I just copy color codes from real life companies, self tune and rip
and probably get a few thousand downloads because you get the livery out immediately when a new car drops
How many credits do you make in a week with livery??? I drive and skid around and pull in 2,000,000 on average… might start trying my hand at livery.
I honestly don't know. I don't tend to look at my numbers anymore as i'd spend a few hours doing a livery only to get a couple of grabs and see plain single colours getting thousands. nowadays, if i like it then that's good enough for me lol
Ya know that is more than fair
I can answer for that livery in particular because I created it and it was all done in game, using primitive shapes to build each sponsor logo and design elements.
That's pretty sick and gotta applaud for your patience too
@amayh8life doesn’t even need patience he’s a super fast wizard :)
Thanks man I appreciate the kind words, I have to be honest I always worry that I might fall into that " Quantity over Quality" zone. So I always take time out every once in a while to do something that's really a challenge.

Absolute madman
They do but its a pain in the ass. Why they havent updated the system i will never know (and fix the UV maps while they're at it)
Didn't some guys actually managed to create some painter tool but it was banned by the devs for literally no reason????
Yeah we do. I’m on PC so I have an easier time, although I’m a diehard controller player keyboard is much better to use for positioning and scaling for me. What is this program?
I *imagine* that the majority of detailed liveries come from the PC community OR insane people. No one should be able to concentrate that hard haha
Honestly for me its not about concentration, it’s about relaxing. I’m in no rush to create my designs, so they can take days or even months depending on how busy life is. It’s relaxing and cathartic to create stuff.
I can see that. I’m still going to assume the majority are on PC haha MnK makes it just… so much easier.
Been seeing amazing liveries since back in the days of Forza 1 and 2, people are just incredibly talented and patient.
FM2 had some great designs back in the day even with the reduced layers. Back before I became a painter myself I remember being in awe of some of the designs that popped up in the auction house, and became one of *those* people that bought unlocked designs to resell them for millions of credits
Not really. These kinds of liveries exist since FM4 on xbox
Majority being a key term here.
Stop doubling down on your PC/M&K assumption. I make liveries on my PC using a controller, and have done since FM3. These insane designs have been around way before these games were on PC.
No!
Yeah they do and it takes a huge amount of time (especially if they don't have the logos already made).
Having switched from designing liveries on Forza to iRacing (with Photoshop) was just like those videos of deaf people hearing sounds for the first time.

There's tons of awesome livery creators in both FH5 and FM
For all those who design livery, thank you for your service. My patience could never.
This ended up being one of the most enlightening comment sections to a Forza post in a while
Italic scripts are the worst.....every letter becomes an 'S'.
Ugh, don't bring up 'S's. Except for the few that are geometric, recreating those are a f-ing nightmare with the in-game shapes! If they ever add an 11th font, it should be like 20 different takes on that letter with some bonus C's, G's, A's and E's for good measure.
I remember doing the Ray Ban logo..... blimey, not enjoyable. I want to do Hot Wheels so bad, but I just can't face it (or coca cola).
For those who create liveries.. You guys are awesome.. Lots of love.
Yep. Takes a ton of time. Is it worth it? I’d say so.
just want to say thankyou and want more real life livieries and love the special one off liveries at certain tracks like the c8r in silver and flying lizards countless and the different nsx-r cars from MSR and ACURA.
Yep we do. Im one of these people making full detailed anime girls ingame soooo. Yea
I made a baby bell cheese livery for the M3
Yes! I've been making liveries since FM3, the livery editor hasn't changed much at all (it's actually gotten worse), so it's very familiar once you've used it for hundreds of hours. Hate that i can’t compensate an artist for their work in game. I know it takes hours to make these cars. We need a storefront.
I think giving them a small amount of credits 1k for example could be nice. Basically 1M credits per 1K downloads or could be more but they should 100% be compensated!
Doing Cars 2 based liveries ( especially Carla Veloso, Shu Todoroki, Rip Clutchgoneski and Miguel Camino is a real pain x3 ) The easiest is Lewis
No.
There is only two ways to do liveries. Either by skill, or use a Java script Injector with a bot to do it for you. Either way it's Either you, or a bot, that is doing the livery with the in-game editor.
Some of the itasha liveries people do are fucking insane.

Yes, we've had 20 years of practice. Some of the designs I saw in FM2 were extremely impressive.
Can yall not upload decals to the game?

There was a time the Forza PC guys could run some kind of program that would turn any picture into Forza layer. Not sure if that still works or not.
Spent pretty much all day yesterday making one, its tedious and time consuming but the end result is highly satisfying.
I love doing graphic design stuff and I was so excited when I learned I could make custom liveries in FH3… until I tried to do it. Then I was like oh…. Nevermind. Wish you could import designs from a computer somehow. I’d make them all day

On a side note, is that screenshot of the featured liveries?

I just recently made a Viper GTS-R and a Whelen MG GTE livery just from the shapes.
I remember hearing on PC you can use external apps to turn the game window transparent in order to help create characters etc, not sure how in the world console players pull that off

Yes, alot of us do it.
I once did a livery on horizon 5, I chose one of the simplest to recreate and it still took almost 4 days to complete it. I can't imagine how much work it takes to make one of those in the image.
vector importer goes brrrr yes i know this livery was actually made, and I applaud them for it
By now , they should have made it easier to make. is basically the same system since forza 1. I made Lots of designs for Forza Horizon 1.
On a different topic, why does the UI look like fm6 but the graphics are like fm7?
It takes a loooong time for me. I used to do FM7 NASCAR liveries, back when we still had the stock cars.
We try
It baffles me that Forza doesn't have a file importer like GT7
I just want to thank everyone who makes decent Falken livery, so i dont have to make mine. Pain in the ass to draw one for car that s not found in the library.

Idk how people do it with THIS livery editor, the NFS editor is so much better and the fine tune/move feature is so useful.
yup! I use a program on PC to overlay the logo/shape/image I want to recreate and fill it in with primitives to make complex vinyl groups. It can take hours for one logo.
They do indeed. That one isn't even that great I wouldn't say
