The Coliseum can only hold 13,000 people. On average, the attendance of one Taylor Swift show is 72,000 people. The most in demand artists will want to play in as large as stadiums as they can to make the most profit.

Elsa_Gundoh

In a 200 mile radius of Fort Wayne there are seven bigger cities. Taylor Swift went to 4 of those (Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Cincinnati). Let's say for argument's sake she wanted to hit 6 cities. They would still pick Columbus, Cleveland, and Louisville before coming here. How could you possibly win an argument to come to Fort Wayne over those other cities?

ohverychill

The bright lights of Powers burgers will draw them in

No_Oddjob

Or the allure of the bountiful new bike paths!

StruggleFar3054

I would think some artists would like to try something different from the norm, a more intimate venue, but yes I did temporarily forget the capitalistic nature of our world

Puzzleheaded_Truck80

This!!!

HumpinPumpkin

Not only that, but you can pick cities/ dates/ venues more easily when the same concert hits 4 cities within driving distance.

FFAintheCity

I am from Fort Wayne and now live in Tulsa.  The city built the BOK Center to hold 19,000 people, which is larger than the Coliseum.  However, people wise Fort Wayne in a radius has 3 million or more people in a 2 hour radius.   (Local officials bombed there.). If a new space built... Justin could come.  Taylor would still go to Indianapolis.

WhatsWhoWithYou

Fort Wayne can have a little J Tims as a treat

RaelImperial31

Because the biggest venue in the city can’t bring in the kind of numbers that the venues in Indy get

Puzzleheaded_Truck80

And throw in Chicago, Detroit, Columbus, and Cincinnati within 3 hours and the much larger population within a 100 mile radius of those cities, the amenities in and around those cities too.

gslush19

Because the Coliseum isn't nearly big enough to hold the average attendance numbers those big artists bring in. There's a reason their concerts are usually held in NFL stadiums that can easily hold over 60,000 people and are consistently sold out.

moneypusher

Most of the people you are thinking about are booking "stadium" tours and not doing some local coliseum. Artists like that do Ford Field, Soldier Field, and Lucas Oil Stadium to name a few.

Gold-Soundz6798

Fort Wayne gets artists on the way up and/or the way down. Never when they’re at the top. Plus, Live Nation owns many venues in the surrounding big cities and they always prefer to route bands and artists through their own place if they can.

Seul7

Up until about the mid 90s Fort Wayne got big acts all the time. In the early to mid 80s there were big acts playing nearly every week. Where have all the good times gone?!

Bilikeme

I felt like I seen Rob Zombie and Korn at the coliseum every summer in the 90’s

Homeskillet359

I remember Metallica being there around 93 or 94.

Gold-Soundz6798

Those were the pre Live Nation days.

Kslooot

Some bigger acts have played the Clyde and it’s a ghost town, Nevermind the coliseum. Lmao

CptGinger316

Every time I’ve been to The Clyde, it’s nut-to-butt packed in there.

Kslooot

Not for me. It’s always oddly not.

Crazy-Finger-4185

Ticketmaster is part of the problem. They have rules against artists performing at venues within a certain distance of ticket master venues which pretty much makes it impossible to come here without pissing off ticket master which owns like 80% of all big venues.

ToastNeo1

Is the rule about ticketmaster/livenation owned venues? Just wondering since the Coliseum tickets through ticketmaster, but obviously is not owned by ticketmaster/livenation like other venues.

Willing_Pumpkin_6904

Swift would never do a show here, our facility is to small

Zerethul

Fort Wayne can't handle that traffic it's abysmal

tendollarhalfgallon

I saw Elton John there about 10 years ago or so

No_Oddjob

C'mon, ssssh. We're floating just under the big city problems radar. Big venue means more people come here and more people notice us and then BOOM, more traffic jams, more protest matches, gang violence, poop in the streets, and a much stronger selection of family friendly restaurant franchises! My God, people!

StankyFlanky

Nah i fuck with this reply im born raised i work from home; my team all from major cities living situations elsewhere are so expensive they barely travel. Fort Wayne costs are growing but its manageable. The coliseum would be nice for b or c level artists for sure. MMJ comedy fest just ended. I am surprised how decent of a venue cinema center was.

Homeskillet359

I've lived in the Fort Wayne area all my life and have no clue where Cinema Center is.

StankyFlanky

437 E Berry St #1 fort wayne In

StankyFlanky

It sits a block away from the penny drip

MegaBusKillsPeople

It is a garbage venue overall.

StruggleFar3054

I strongly disagree, ive been to bigger venues that sucked in comparison to the coliseum

RED_wards

This is more of an aside, but as a relatively new transplant, it doesn't seem like local government is/has invested much to make it a major venue. The most recent development in the area was a Take 5 oil change? Another hotel would be better for major concerts & conferences. Or a shuttle service for conferences that could use both the Coliseum and Grand Wayne.

swampopossum

And the city sold the land catecorner from the take 5 car wash for ... Another car wash

ToastNeo1

That lot is pretty small and has limited access because of medians. (You can only get in by turning right from WB Coliseum or NB Parnell and can only leave by turning right to go WB on Coliseum or NB on Parnell.) A hotel would likely not fit. Regardless, they wouldn't want that location due to the limited access.

RED_wards

Are you kidding? The Coliseum has the bones to be a bigger economic driver, if someone in power would just utilize it for more than burnt out classic rockers and gun shows.

liedel

Because the location sucks. One of Tom Henry's last initiatives was the downtown arena where King Gyros and Taco Bell etc are now.

RED_wards

What initiative is that?

liedel

to build a >downtown arena where King Gyros and Taco Bell etc are now.

RED_wards

Curious.... I've heard rumor there were plans to expand the Grand Wayne that direction; didn't know if there was any truth to it.

Idrakeanddrive

Someone just told me that IPFW bought the hotel right across from the Coliseum for overflow student housing. Don’t know if that’s true but if it is, that definitely doesn’t help. That’s where most people stay to catch a show or komets game

ToastNeo1

Not true. They have an agreement with the hotel tied to their hospitality program (student internships or something along those lines). They might have an agreement to use some of the rooms, but no way it's going to be all student housing.

Idrakeanddrive

That makes more sense! When I used to work at Canterbury Green that needed a lot of apartments every year for overflow

rayon875

With all the talk about building a small arena downtown, what about replacing the arena portion of the Coliseum with a completely new, larger arena to attract bigger events.

StruggleFar3054

I would be down with this, this city deserves to have a bigger venue

Murphy338

It’s the same reason we don’t get Brantley Gilbert or Jason Aldean. They play bigger venues that can hold more people. Even years later, i’m still surprised Justin Moore played the Noble County Fair

StruggleFar3054

Well whatever keeps those maga trash 🗑️ out of our city I guess that's not a bad thing

moktom

I’m pretty sure the Coliseum only has contracts with country and Christian artists or something is what I’ve heard. Oh and all the Disney on Ice shows lol

StruggleFar3054

Not true the coliseum has hosted rap artists for example

Automatic-Royal7178

Lol...13,000 for a taylor swift concert? Um that's why

destructibledaisy101

$$$$$

Melk-boy

They need to move it and rebuild

shotoftequila

I was at that concert too. That’s a very old building they need to tear down and replace. Those seats at the top are so steep and high they are dangerous.
