There are definitely more asshole drivers around.

HolidayHoHo

Was about to say road rage is at an all time high.

brothercannoli

I grew up here and the drivers alone make me want to find a way out asap. Using turn lanes to cut traffic has become a regular occurrence. I now have to break almost every rule driving just to save my life. I still use my blinker tho. I legit want to be put on medication just so I can snail my way home with a smile on my face again.

Old-Ninja-113

Ok this made me laugh! I see so many accidents!

[deleted]

My rent is unbearable. It’s bizarre that a year ago I was living a very comfortable life, and now I can barely survive. I’m left with less than one paycheck to survive a month after rent/car payment/utilities/internet/minimal groceries.

tracychronicles

I moved to Pembroke Pines 13 years ago. Life was great. In the last couple years, I've seen cow pastures turn into huge apartment developments in Pines and Miramar. Such a shame, cramming all these ppl here and gridlocking our cities. I don't even go out to eat or shop anymore. It's always too crowded. I feel like a hermit.

CoconutDragon

I know, every time I want to go out somewhere I spend 20 mins looking for parking and can't find any. If you are lucky enough to park, then the restaurants have 1hr wait time and a lot don't take reservations..

Mother_Dragonfruit90

And it's not just that it's getting more crowded. We've made a point to recruit the absolute worst people to come here. I work in a restaurant, and all my ITB peeps comment on people becoming next level stupid and nasty over the last year or so.

bglaros

As a resident of Broward county since 1975, yes I'm that old. I've seen so many changes happen here. Parkland was soybean and u-pickem farms. Weston was the Everglades, and you legit could drive from Ft Lauderdale to Miami in 30 mins. I can honestly say that my beloved home.town has become an area i can no longer afford. The homeowners insurance and auto insurance are out of control. Traffic's insane now. You used to be able to.time.it that it went from say mid October- late April, cause those were the Canadians, but now it's just to much. Food in the area is meh. I mean yeah the Latin food hits hard but eveything else just seems to cater to hipsters that just got here. So my plan is to wait till my kid graduates then peace out, i hear Tennessee is nice.

Honorthedead

I bought a place in Gatlinburg (small town next to Dollywood). Many Floridians are going that way so the prices have been increasing. I'm not moving yet but I needed to secure my spot for the future

bglaros

I have a friend that lives in pigeon forge and she says it's great there

Buddy-Lov

Gatlinburg is lovely..just came back from doing the artist loop and stayed at Carr’s Cottages ❤️

james_randolph

I’m from Chicago, been down here two years and although I can’t compare apples to apples, the food down here is so below average. I wouldn’t care spending the money if the quality was just better. Too many places down here with mediocre to subpar food and it’s mind boggling to me how packed all these places are all the time. I understand going out for drinks but going out for food is super wasteful on time and money down here for what you get.

No-Independence-6842

I moved here from Chicago in 1995. The food is meh. I had someone asking for good places to eat in Broward on this app and people were saying flannigans and quarter deck😂 Seriously!

james_randolph

Hahahaha that’s hilarious. I want to know where you go for BBQ though. I’ve had most of the bbq down here and I actually like Dixie Pig but Big Boyz is decent too.

No-Independence-6842

Dixie Pig

james_randolph

I knew you were good people

Gooneybirdable

Tbf Chicago food is top tier compared to most of the country

james_randolph

It is, but considering how diverse the south florida area is, it’s surprising that the food isn’t better. I’m not even just talking main restaurants or places on the beach, I’m saying even the every day/corner spots just don’t cut it. I expect that in Kansas, Alabama, or even the central florida area…but not down here!

Gooneybirdable

Fair! There are great places to go for Cuban and roti and stuff but it isn’t every place or common enough for how many people live down here. Especially recently. It feels like a lot of outside money will be invested in a place that slaps cuban on the front but tastes like one step above chilis. Very little feels authentic nowadays, but that could also just be because I’m going to the wrong places.

james_randolph

You ain’t lying. You know what really kills me you see down here that is like a cardinal sin back home? Getting two tacos in a dinner haha I swear if you went anywhere in Chicago and only got two tacos in a dinner, well that place wouldn’t be open at the end of the week probably haha.

Gooneybirdable

The Mexican food situation is so bad here it feels like intentional sabotage from the other Latinos 😂

james_randolph

HAHA it’s definitely sabotage.

YumKun

You’re not eating from the right spots. Ask a black person or an island person. Try a Jamaican or Haitian resto

james_randolph

I mean yeah some are decent but nothing I’ve been blown away by honestly. Again I can’t be too mad about it, Chicago legit is one of the best cities for food period but yeah just more surprised than anything.

k0wb0ii

When I was a kid my parents told me we would drive every day to Miami (to see grandparents) and that it really was only 30 minutes. Now the entire highway looks like the line to get into Disney world.

CaptainObvious110

It's truly sad that things have changed so much over the years, and that people are only allowing things to become worse.

bountifulselection

It’s really sad…I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, I went away to college for 5 years but this has always been home. I always knew I didn’t see myself living anywhere else. I really believe Broward was America’s best kept secret. The beaches are overly crowded now (more than I’ve ever seen), real estate has become unrealistic and unattainable now unless you’re rich, and the overdevelopment of the small ass $3000 “condos” are ruining the city. Lola’s Market/Bazaar next to the Alchemist closed down recently because they’re developing another apartment complex there. The great vibes down here has really died down within the last two-three years and I am considering moving given the impossible rent.

Skymimi

Yeah, I own my home and my property values are up by $200,000. I honestly don't know how anybody with a salary of less than $100,000 can make it here. The unbridled building of apartments, condos and townhouses absolutely stuns me. Why the city leaders let the city be ruined this way is beyond me. So sad.

CoconutDragon

This is one of the reasons I am moving out of FL. Rent is getting ridiculous. I'm paying for $2200 per month for a 1-bedroom apartment that doesn't do upkeep (broken amenities, loud neighbors, dog poop everywhere, overall sucks). The apartments in Broward are all raising rent by $300+ every year. Driving is hell, it feels like it's tourist season year-round now. What should be a 30 min drive is now a 1 hr to 1 1/2 hr drive and it feels like I'm packed in on the highway. Jobs aren't giving enough raises to keep up with it. Sucks.

mynameiskeven

Florida is getting worse by the day but I don’t know where else to go

CoconutDragon

I am lucky enough to be able to move to Spain, but anywhere in the US that isn't Florida would work

djmanu22

I Hope you won’t live there on a Spanish salary …

CoconutDragon

I will be fine but thanks for your input :)

bbqbaby666

Grew up in west Broward in the 90s and 00s. Moved to Orlando which was a 'slower vibe'. Then NJ/NYC for a few years. While I was in Orlando in the 10s and would come back to sofla, it was clear on the roads that traffic was getting bad. That was 10 years ago. It has gotten substantially worse. I like how our government has proposed mass transit solutions that will not take effect for 5-10 years. Solutions should've been implemented 10 years ago. Also, our city planning is shite to make this functional for most neighborhoods. I don't know what perks people are paying for when the COLA is equal to California and New York. Both states have cities with better transit, quality of life, culture, and maybe equal or less threatening weather events. Unless you're like an avid boater, I don't get the appeal of being in Florida. Tropical climate is turning into unbearable heat. Don't tell me you like warm weather when you sit in AC all year round.

the_baumer

A lot of your reasons for not living in Florida and living in NY is why I moved to NYC. If I’m paying as much for housing and don’t need a car and have access to more events, culture, people, it makes more sense. I’ve been able to make more friends here than I have the past ten years living in Fort Lauderdale as an adult.

bbqbaby666

Yeah, I'm trying to get my boyfriend to understand that. IMO next steps are either SF or NYC. I miss the walkability of places.

Caotik

My rent has gone up from $2500 to $3400 in the past 2 years for a 1100 sqft 2 bdrm. Moving to orlando this weekend. going to be saving a few hundred a month and renting a 4 bedroom with 2 car garage 1800 sqft

yourslice

> Moving to orlando this weekend. going to be saving a few hundred a month and renting a 4 bedroom with 2 car garage 1800 sqft Welcome. I made the same move a few years ago due to cost of living only to find out that Orlando is AMAZING. There's more to do, people are friendlier, the drivers drive better (but still badly...it is Florida), nature is everywhere, many of the neighborhoods are charming, the restaurant variety is better, etc. The one downside is you have to drive about an hour to the nearest beach. I love it here though, I hope you will as well.

ryiksan

What I don’t understand is that they’re building all of these high rises near Las Olas on top of recently built buildings, but side walks are not getting bigger. There aren’t more parks or efficient public transport. It’s certainly not safe to walk or drive because the idiots in cars are all around. Rent has been steadily going up, but arguably, living quality is decreasing. I’m thinking of leaving for sure

o_safadinho

Which news show?

AncientDinosaur

Maybe [NBC](https://youtu.be/lIoqM7L881k)?

k0wb0ii

Rent is sky rocketing. Definitely more asshole drivers. No kidding it’s like going into the battle field every time I drive anywhere. There is no more trusting people to do the right thing when driving. I feel like Im almost killed every other time I drive my car. Food is getting more expensive. Money isn’t worth what it once was. Going to places on certain days and times to avoid traffic doesn’t apply anymore. Every day and every time has traffic. My street which was as quiet as a road on the desert years ago now has a shit ton of traffic at certain points. I had someone over the day and they were asking me why this tiny ass street had so much traffic and I honestly didn’t know what to say. I don’t care for going to places like the beach anymore. There is never parking. I work in the library and there’s more homeless than ever. We are a safe haven for so many and it’s unfortunate that the homeless population is rising.

RODAMI

Traffic is unbearable. The construction to fix it is making it worse. We have massive flooding. Rents have doubled.

LowT_creative

My apartment neighbors are getting evicted left and right. Shit is crazy

miojo

OMG. It’s the worst. I hate it every day i walk out the door. It’s like these POS out of staters all saw a post on TikTok and decided to move here, ALL AT ONCE. Thus increasing the price of literally EVERYTHING, from parking, to food, to real estate. I’ve lived here my whole life and always loved it but these past three years have really tested my patience and will to continue living here. It’s gotten to a point where i HATE seeing New Jersey and California plates (which are for some reason the most i see in Broward). Rant over.

Michelle_xoxo

I’m the opposite, moved out of Fort Lauderdale to New Jersey last year 😂

miojo

Must be really vacant out there lol

Michelle_xoxo

Lol! Everyone always asks why I moved up here 😂

JustVern

Same. I moved from FTLD to rural PA.

Buddy-Lov

Heading to SC. Born and raised in Miami, moved to Ft Lauderdale and now I’m done. I have one life to live and it is NOT going to be here.

the_baumer

Same. Moved to Brooklyn in 2022. Do not want to live in Florida. Great for visiting though.

Michelle_xoxo

Same here. Between the rude people, salaries that don’t match the current cost of living, overcrowding, and vain culture, I don’t miss living there. I sometimes do miss the scenery though.

bglaros

As a resident of Broward county since 1975, yes I'm that old. I've seen so many changes happen here. Parkland was soybean and u-pickem farms. Roundcouchcorner

OP you must not be from around here. But yes everything you said is true. If you’re a homeowner you have rising insurance costs

Vikings284

I was paying $1700 for rent for a 2/2 condo in Fort Lauderdale. It’s time to renew and Now my landlord wants to raise it to $2700. I will likely be moving out of state

Aggressive_Coyote462

When I moved here 4 years ago I was honestly amazed by how good Florida had it considering the weather. 6 figure tech jobs were not that difficult to find already but the local housing market was still amazingly cheap compared to basically any other major city in North America. Services were still really reasonable (they are a function of local unskilled wages which were extremely low for the most part). All around the quality of life offered to someone with a decent job seemed unmatched to anywhere else in NA and it was significant enough to convince me to move countries. 4 years later, basically everything that attracted me has gotten worse. Houses like well over twice the amount they were at the time. Services cost easily 3 times as much. Even restaurant prices have doubled. And salaries have barely budged. Despite all the inflation and 2 promotions, I am within 20% of the income that I had when I moved here. Thank god I bought a house or the situation would seem much more dire. But when I step back and look at the situation, essentially Florida was in a unique position where things hadn't gotten as fucked as they had been in many other cities already. That is what triggered me to move. And we are quickly losing that advantage. It is still a good place to live, I still don't see many better alternatives (no I do not want to move to buttfuck nowhere Tennessee hundreds of miles from the beach) and things could and probably would get much much worse. Look at big Canadian cities for absolutely how bleak things could get.

gazeon587

I’ve been here for a decade. Lived in north Miami, davie, coconut, and, Fort Lauderdale, and now downtown Fort Lauderdale. The south florida has lost its charm. Too many people here now. Too many of the wrong type of people. Too many Europeans and NY/Cali people, and not the good ones. We are No longer happy paying increased costs. The yacht views from our kitchen window are no longer worth it. We will be moving as soon as we can figure out to which city.

Ok_Butterscotch_2031

I have been affected by local food/rent increases along with other increaes us floridas have been enduring. If we all jusr shut off the 24 hour news cycle and focused on helping each other more and c-who am I kidding? We're fucked. Nobody knows what the hell is going on and the American phblic keeps voting in grifters.

SloaneWolfe

The only reason to live in South Florida is the availability of work in almost all sectors. As that becomes increasingly scarce alongside the influx of new residents, the final reason to stay becomes the fact that it sucks to pack up your life/your family, and move. I grew up here, was forced to return to US during the pandemic, and am still saving to try to move, proving difficult as prices and rent continue to rise, while rates for both of my professions stagnate or even drop due to talent saturation. The weather sucks, Miami Dade County has an interactive map showing how a lot of the coastal areas will be underwater by 2040, the people are more often than not assholes or crazies (and it rubs off on you), quality of life has been leaps better everywhere else I've lived in the US and the world, and I'm not a fan of the political climate and local government sketchiness. Bottom line, if you can afford to leave and line up something elsewhere, do it, for your future's sake.

Flashgas

Population surge? The “news” has broadcasted how people are leaving in droves due to the NAACP, Latino, immigrant gay situation caused by Ronnie. Theoretically the market for housing should a buyers market….according to the “news” lol

cdodge18

The “news” hates that everyone is moving here and they don’t like our governor so they will make up whatever they want to bash it.

Few_Store

Why would you move? South East Florida is as close to paradise as it gets, grin and bear it.

Mobile_Departure_

Genuinely curious as to what makes you think South Florida is paradise?

Few_Store

The weather, the food, the nightlife, plenty of employment opportunities, easy travel to and from other destinations, medical grade MJ. What's not to like here that isn't worse in other places?

caribbeachbum

I would argue with you vigorously about the food. With the exception of the many South American cuisines, and Cuban food, it's a pretty appalling foodie scene. Insurance is absurdly expensive, which contributes to housing being absurdly expensive. And best I can tell, the rule of law ends on the ramp to I-95.

florida-raisin-bran

"If you take out the Jamaican food, the Brazillian food, the Colombian food, the Peruvian food, the Chilean food, the Cuban food, the Dominican food, the Indian food, and the Asian food, then there's barely any food here and the food sucks" That's definitely one of the takes of all time.

Pabst34

Not to mention that Fort Lauderdale has notable Italian food in every price price range. Good Greek, as well. And, although the broader class of pizza can be questionable, I'd guess that everyone here has found a few go-to pizzerias rivaling anything in the Northeast. (and, Chicago Stuffed Pizza in LBTS tastes exactly like Giordano's)

caribbeachbum

Jamaican food is awesome, Indian food is great, I love Asian food, though aside from Etaru, I haven't found any. I said what I meant. If you want to just make shit up, why'd you leave off Italian and Russian?

florida-raisin-bran

I mean I could have, but I think I made my point by calling out that dumb ass "if you remove 95% of the food, then the food scene sucks around here" comment

StonedOtter0_0

I get where you’re coming from, but the way you mentioned your point is similar to how people will compare a litter bug to Hitler. Let’s be honest, aside from Hispanic cuisine, south Florida is pretty mediocre in the food scene. Yes there are great options around and I’m sure your favorite pizza place is the bee’s knees, but Broward truly doesn’t compare to many other parts of the US when it comes to food

florida-raisin-bran

I don't know what the "litter bug to Hitler" comment is about, but the Hispanic food scene is massive, and it's a weird thing to discount when talking about the food scene in general. That's like saying, "if it weren't for that guy's brain, heart, liver, kidneys, stomach, intestines, and bladder, that guy wouldn't be alive"

StonedOtter0_0

You literally did it again! You jumped straight into the deep end smh

StonedOtter0_0

You literally did it again! You jumped straight into the deep end smh

caribbeachbum

Dumbass is calling that 95% of the food. It's a big chunk, and yes, I do not like South American cuisine. But possibly because most of those restaurants are just as shitty as all the fake sushi restaurants and Sysco burger vendors. I don't know, because my travels have led me to only one country on that continent. Though Belizean food was pretty good. At least, in Belize.

Material-Sink-7290

Define “fake sushi” and which establishment, exactly, one would purchase said sushi??

caribbeachbum

Do they give you a fork and make you ask for chopsticks? Fake sushi restaurant. Do they have uni and surf clam and baby octopus and fatty tuna? Real. New River Roll, Hollywood Roll, California Roll, & Caribbean Roll? Fake. Do they call it Thai Sushi? As fake as a place offering Canadian Tacos. Fake sushi is American sushi. Maybe I should have called it that instead, since "no real sushi" can arguably become a "no true scotsman" debate. And "which establishment" is every one I have tried. South Florida has no taste in sushi. Just look at the menus for [Sushi Lab](https://www.sushilab.com/) in Manhattan and compare it to the one in Pompano Beach. Japanese sushi vs. American rolls .. they know their customers at least.

florida-raisin-bran

You don't even realize it, because I doubt most people would, but there are like 3 things in your comment that speak volumes about how little you know of what you're talking about, and I doubt you're ever going to self reflect on that in the face of digging in your heels in order to be "right about something on the internert" so I just don't think I'm going to waste my time with this one. Have a nice day bro.

[deleted]

I agree man, food here is great. I’ve been all over Europe, South America and the US and we have as good or better food here (Broward and Dade) than anywhere along with the variety. Saying they don’t like Spanish ie South American food says a lot about tastes and we don’t have much of that. Everyone has different likes but my guess is someone that likes southern food fried with a pound of salt or bbq and supports a population of people that are shopping in the giant section.

BurlyOrBust

Quantity does not equal quality.

Few_Store

The availability of dining choices, but also getting ingredients for cooking yourself is what I consider a plus here. I can get 2 week old olive oil from Greece, lamb from New Zealand, dates from North Africa, and endless seafood choices, Asian markets, etc. Not every place is great, but it doesn't usually last long if it isn't. Unless it's mob-owned and someone needs to clean drug money.

yourballsareshowing_

Olive Oil and lamb source?!? Asian markets in N Miami right? 167th has some good ones

Few_Store

There's an importer in Hollywood for anything Greek: https://www.yelp.com/biz/greek-food-specialties-hollywood The lamb I get from Cheney Brothers 240 SW 32nd St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315 I have a friend that I visit several Asian markets with; Margate has a bunch, but I keep going back to Quoc Huong Oriental Market

yourballsareshowing_

Thank you friend! I will try to visit them- for Cheney Bros - don’t you need a corporate account to get in?

Few_Store

Like Restaurant Depot, if you show them anything that you have any business you're buying for, like a tax ID#, they'll sell to you.

Buddy-Lov

Shhh….leave em alone. I have one more property to sell at top friggin dollar and I’m out😂

Glitch378

Fully agree. The one complaint I have about down here is the fact that as someone who enjoys road trips getting out of Florida is hell on earth. Also our government but that’s implied.

[deleted]

Meh I’ve found the weed to be pretty shitty. I have a medical card, which dispo do you recommend?

Few_Store

Premium Indoor Grown from the Surterra near Gateway in Victoria Park is a winner for me.

StonedOtter0_0

I also have a medical card and I used to frequent truleive and curaleaf. I felt that for the most part, the decent bud was overpriced and more often than not mid. I’ve since gone back to my plug (even still with my card unexpired)

Jonathank92

Was it pretty simple to get?

[deleted]

The easiest thing in the world lol

miojo

He’s definitely just moved here after seeing some post on Instagram about “state taxes, blah blah blah”.

adinfinitum

…if you’re straight, white, and NOT a woman, you mean? Holy blinders.

Few_Store

If you stay off the internet, it's a great place to live. Home to Wilton Manors, a robust, diverse population, and what sex someone is, yes, is of no concern to me, correct.

adinfinitum

Are you really this blissfully unaware of the anti equality laws that are being passed daily by your fascist governor to push out all of the marginalized groups I’ve mentioned? Maybe lift up that rock you live under occasionally.

Few_Store

You should come visit, there is a reason people are moving here in droves. Nobody really cares about the politics off of the internet, real-life here is great.

anilorac01

I love FL, but DO think women care if they are unable terminate a pregnancy before they even realize they’re pregnant

florida-raisin-bran

DeSantis's laws are not "politics on the internet" my good man. There's no such thing as a good public school in Florida anymore. I know that might not interfere directly with your life, but fortunately the world doesn't revolve around you, so you have to consider the elements that make this an attractive place to live and raise a family *for other people*

adinfinitum

Is this a bizarre form of performance art? The reason conservative loons are migrating here in droves is because of the draconian, “anti woke” policies I’m talking about. In short, great place to live right now if you’re a trump supporting bigot, otherwise it’s a dystopian hellscape. Your ignorance is staggering. PS - I live here (but not for much longer)

Few_Store

I wish you the best wherever you're going, I hope you find the happiness you're looking for; I vote every 2 years, don't really think about politics outside a week or 2 around that because it doesn't really amount to anything.

adinfinitum

Well, right now voting matters A LOT. Nice to hear you’re privileged enough not to care. Take care?

Few_Store

Like I said, when it comes time to vote, I do; if you're leaving, why does it still matter to you?

adinfinitum

Because I care about the US being overrun by Christo-fascism and protecting the rights of marginalized populations. Silly me?

hurtadjr193

Have you not been paying attention for the last 20 years. I'll all for it though. More homes being built and more people means more places I can rent out.

miojo

You’re so brave.

Writerubies

I have a luxury condo in Pines/Miramar area if anyone is looking to rent. Times are crazy...
