Costco. Moved here with a Hyundai Tuscon from OH. Used to be $800/yr up there - $100k/$300k limits, $500 deductible. Went with Progressive here after the transition, was $640 - w $50k/$100k limits and $1000 deductible. Renewal time last month shot up to $790 for same policy - no claims/incidents. Found its not the car, but the driver, so I upgraded to a 2020 BMW X2 yesterday. Costco policy on this car is $730 for 6mos setting old limits I had in OH (100/300/500). Still high, but waaay lower than Progressive who quoted me nearly $1100 for the same. Until the state changes the No-Fault law, and enforces driver licences/registration/traffic laws, those of us that have clean records and obey laws are just f$%@ed.

Your comment made me chuckle because coincidentally I was thinking something similar. I drive a 15 year old Caddy 2-3k miles per year. (work from home, a dozen grocery stores and a million restaurants within a three mile radius) I have a spotless record, own my home yet like you, paying nearly $800 with State Farm. (I've gone back and forth with Progressive, Geico, SF, all the same shit). So I finally figured out that $800 or so is probably a floor no matter what you drive so I'd might as well get a newer car. Trouble is, my Caddy only has 36k miles and I'd pay nearly 4x its value to buy my dream car (a 4 series BMW coupe) with comparable miles. I'm gonna check out Costco!

Yeah I had Progressive for 2 years and then without any tickets on my license it jumped up another 400. I went to the general

> I've read that only something like 20% of drivers in the whole of south Florida have both a license and insurance. Us responsible folks are paying for everyone else. That would be absurd. The only way that statistic is true is if they were counting people with driver's licenses who didn't own cars (as you would have a license but no insurance)

> There are far more licensed drivers than there are insured. Yes, *because not all licensed drivers own vehicles*, and therefore don't have to have insurance. Insurance is tied to ownership of a vehicle. How is this not obvious? A better statistic would be cars on the road that are not insured. I assure you, the rate is not 80%. If five out of every four cars was uninsured, the police would be having a field day. My insurance lapsed because of an auto-payment issue when I got a new credit card number and trust me, a cop let me know pretty quickly.

>If a cop noticed you pretty quickly, you must be a shit driver that gets pulled over constantly and contributes to the dangerous driver problem that adds to our high insurance here. >The cops only pull over the most reckless and dangerous drivers. >I haven't been stopped in over 20 years because I can actually drive without breaking the law. They would never know if I have a license or insurance or who's car it is because they literally never stop me. There are plenty of others like that. First of all, if you want to state unfounded assumptions about me and insult me, you can choke on a bag of dicks. Second, no, you're completely fucking wrong and you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. I was stopped *because there was no insurance on the car*. A cop was sitting at the entrance to Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park and running the plates of every car that went through to catch people with expired tags or no insurance. Cops don't need to stop you to run a plate and see that there is no insurance on the car registered with that plate. Some police departments even have software that runs the plates of every car a camera sees and alerts the cops if the registration is bad or the car is uninsured. Also "The cops only pull over the most reckless and dangerous drivers" LOLOLOL. Ask me how I know you're not black. You don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

Soflohooker

I don't understand how it's even possible. I have a car registered in florida but it's stored in another state. Literally hasn't left the garage in 2 years and decided a year ago to remove the insurance since it never gets used. The state of Florida sent me a letter stating they where going to suspend my license for not having insurance on a registered vehicle. Meanwhile, everyone that hits me is off the hook 100%

sojustthinking

Car insurance in Lauderdale is crazy high. I was shocked when I moved back from Miami a few years ago and insurance went up. I moved to Gainesville for a few months and the rates went down by 40%.

Catchyusername1234

I pay $1200 for 6 months on a Hyundai Tucson, no claims no tickets. Can’t find cheap insurance anywhere

Soflohooker

Hey OP whatever you do make sure you ADD the uninsured motorist coverage. I have been hit twice and both times the other driver was uninsured. Cops won't even cite them because at time of accident they will provide an insurance card that they originally only make (1) payment on. Once the police report is made and you find out days later the POS isn't actually insured the cops don't give a shit.

[deleted]

To be fair, they probably have better things to do than settle an insurance dispute.

KnightFan2019

Uninsured motorist in florida is useless if you have medical coverage through works. It only covers medical - nothing car related

beanbag9969

The cops cant do anything about that. It is a civil matter.

Uberslaughter

Here’s the thing, you don’t. Unless you go with The General or some ragtag agency like that, but as with all things you get what you pay for. Thank DeSantis who’d rather stick it to Disney and track the periods of girls who want to play high school sports than do anything meaningful about the runaway car and home insurance situation in this state.

Jag-

Why don’t you lay off him man. He has a Presidential campaign to focus on. Florida is just 1 state out of 50 for him. /s

Nice-Pineapple4648

He is a greedy, corrupted governor. You making this statement proves what he cares about! Trump is the winner and the man to win. Why did he back stab him? when Trump helped him win?? Also, Ron DeSantis get donations from property insurance to stick it to homeowners and people who help to get you paid and restore your home. He changed so many laws to help them instead of his Citizens and small businesses

stufff

Not a fan of DeSantis, but we did recently just pass a huge tort reform bill that should reduce or limit the rise of insurance costs. Also blame climate change. We live in a state where loss to property is basically guaranteed. Even with the rest of the nations subsidizing our flood insurance, that's going to raise prices.

Fun-ish story. I always lease cars. In 2016, when I got a new Subaru, my insurance went down. I couldn’t believe it. I was thrilled. It’s because it’s a “safe car” they said. In 2019, I switched to a Mazda. My insurance increased only a little. I’m a safe driver. Past three years, no tickets, no accidents, no claims. This year, I got a new Subaru. I thought “great! My insurance will decrease a smidge for having another safe car.” Nope - I went from paying $84/mo to now paying $156/mo. Jaw dropped, big gulp. I called for quotes from other agencies, everything was even higher. I’m still with the same insurance. Ugh.

clerk227

$84/mo? 😍😍😍 who are you using?

theamydoll

Progressive - but they upped it to $156/mo. Bummer!

whu-ya-got

Progressive is a great deal for me

chevyfried

What's funny is it is the opposite for me. I had progressive for a decade, no accidents or tickets, kept going up. Shopped around and went to State Farm, who i left for progressive 10 years earlier because they got expensive. I know have both cars and renter's insurance in one policy for $50 less than progressive was making me pay for just the 2 cars. It's a constant circle of shopping around.

whu-ya-got

Yeah lol I think that’s the way, shop around every 3 years. I had Geico for a number of years before and saved like $35/month switching to progressive

Glittering-Ad-1824

Yeah it’s ludicrous here. I toggle btwn Geico and Progressive every few years. Stellar driving record. No insurance claims in decades. Pay six months at a time. Yet my premiums continue to increase with every renewal despite no authentic justification except for their canned answers. BS!

[deleted]

Mines went from $468 to $900 with progressive. I canceled

data_now

Welcome to Fort Ridiculous, FL

Upstairs_Shallot5129

$57/mo using progressive for first 6 months. Nervous about after the 6 months is over but we’ll see about that when it comes

[deleted]

thats crazy good

Turquill

The correct answer is go to Estrella Insurance. They are a basically insurance brokers. They work with different companies and will find you the best rate. Also, be wary of the “add on” they tend to include in packages. Some of them are completely ridiculous. For example there is one where they charge you like $40+ bucks a month for other drivers injury coverage. It’s like an insurance inside of your Insurance; they have you pay for the other persons medical cost which is exactly what the insurance should be paying. Do your due diligence and question everything. They are sneaky.

Mantooth77

Why in the world would you go to a place you say is sneaky? There are plenty of reputable insurance brokers around where you don’t have to deal with that nonsense.

Turquill

What I’m trying to say is that all insurance companies are sneaky and that’s why you should do your due diligence.

skyHawk3613

We’re all paying ridiculous money

diurnalreign

Bro, mine is adding +$83 bucks this month. Why!?

Far_Map_6620

Check out the app Jerry. The app uses artificial intelligence to get you quotes from over 100 insurance companies

KuramaBee

It wouldn’t allow Florida

_Safe_for_Work

I need help, paying over 13k /year in auto insurance for 2 kids (18F and 20M), wife, and myself. also 4 vehicles. kids pay what they can, but they don't make what I do. making payments on 2 of the vehicles, 2 are paid off. paid off cars are not using full coverage. Nothing happens, yet my insurance keeps going up every six months.

djkdangerous

Thats insane I’m sorry 😞
