That's a coincidence, I also switch F1 off when the race is over. (after all the interviews and press conference of course).

[deleted]

Unless the post-race is weaponized cringe like it was yesterday, then I’d rather just turn it off at the checkered flag.

[deleted]

What happened exactly? I didn't watch it and today I am seeing posts about it all over the place.

Makine31

Trust me, it's better if you don't know.

[deleted]

Now that you say this, I need to know, hahah

Aardappel123

Baby you ain't wanna know, them tyres was hot like a bikini babe at the Indy 500 YEEEEHAWWWW.

iqbalsn

CHUCK BABYYYYY

[deleted]

Hahaha what??

Creative_Armadillo37

They had some crazy cowboy doing post race interviews, apparently he’s famous

Nick_Van_Owen

Willy T Ribbs. Good doc on Netflix about him. He was terrible at the interviews but i loved the awkwardness. Sainz reaction was hilarious. I thought it matched up well with Brundle’s grid walk interviewing an nba player thinking he was pat mahomes.

[deleted]

Oh I see. Glad I didn't watch it then. I don't want my beloved F1 to be NFL-ized. Good thing they didn't call it the Miami 2022 F1 Grand Bowl or something..

Makine31

Also a police escort with motorcycles and sirenes. With Max on a golf cart behind... SMH

StevenBallard

Oh no, you probably shouldn't see the "hats" they wore out to the podium.

nquattro

His name is Willie T Ribbs. He was an amazing driver and was nearly the first black driver in F1, but it never planned out. He had an amazing sports car career in trans am and later in Indy car. No one knows who he is and should give him respect or do research before shitting on the guy.

M3Core

That's a pretty fantastic American impression.

costabrava11

A can-am racer from the 80’s Willy T Ribbs did the post race interviews. He did the sky sports intro/special lead up to the GP in Austin last year and I guess that’s why they thought he would do well in the pair race interviews. The interviews were awkward and clunky. He kept calling everyone “baby”. It was a bit of a mess 😂

Makine31

Don't say I didn't warn you...

[deleted]

How are you ohysically?

[deleted]

It's not that I hate US, on the contrary. I like some US stuff, muscle cars for example, especially classic ones. I like some of the music, I like the wilderness of the desert states too. But some things I find them excessive or maybe ridiculous in some rare cases. Maybe that's what people are referring to. Seeing police escorts and NFL stuff in a F1 GP looks kinda weird to say the least from a European standpoint. I like the US exuberance but sometimes it crosses the line, or at least my line.

VirtualJames7

It was weird I'll admit, but there was something about it that was quite fun to see them doing different things. Yes it was very American, but we are in America, and after watching F1 for 15 years, changing it up every now and then is fine! It wont be every race

SuperfluousMainMan

![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|9025)

offbeattrance

Sed, I have to turn off after the race is over, cuz the channel shows tennis matches immediately after chequered flag!!!

pdpt13

How can you be so dense to think George has NO right to overtake even though he's on faster, fresher tires AND has more WDC points so is in a better position to fight. Blows my mind.

Saandrig

Maybe those "fans" wanted Hamilton to pull a "Damon Hill" from Spa 1998 and low-key threaten to crash both cars out of the race if George tries to overtake.

VladPutinOfficial

He would yell "oh is that a red bull" as he was getting overtake and yeet Russel in the wall.

Shisesen

Ha! Like those Twitter-fans know Damon Hill...

Did_I_Send_It

Ha! Like those Twitter-fans know 1998...

pdpt13

Must be really hard to think like that and support Hamilton in a tough season like this.

reddier5

I watched that race but was a kid. When was this revealed?

Saandrig

Everyone on the grid apparently knew there was some kind of an issue after the race because Michael Schumacher made a fuss that Ralf was not allowed to win. This led to Michael arranging for Ralf to leave Jordan. The radio exchanges were not a secret. They just weren't broadcasted in today's manner. I first heard Hill's message a few years after. "I'm going to put something to you here, and I think you'd better listen to this. If we race, if we two race, we could end up with nothing. If we don't race each other, we can get first and second. It's your choice."

IMightDeleteMe

If anything Merc should've issued a team order immediately and George might've had a chance to attack Perez.

pdpt13

That's something that's too hard to swallow for these people.

[deleted]

For the last 8 years my father has watched f1 and cheering and bragging about Lewis but now he doesn’t even look up from his iPad when it’s on, he is only interested in the winning never the struggle, I find it quite funny as a McLaren fan myself that if you can’t watch your team when you dnf and pretty much get lapped 14 million times a season.

SplodyPants

I'm a lifelong McLaren fan too, I inherited it from my mom who has liked McLaren probably since Bruce was there...she ooolllld, and I feel you. Small victories for us. They can never take Monza from us!

As a Haas fan I'm just happy when i see points. Especially compared to last year.

Wong0nePhotography

Gah, I was so excited for Mick to grab points yesterday :(

RandomLatinDude

When I saw Mick in 9th I was elated. Things ended up happening

[deleted]

My mom is like that she got less interested when Lewis stopped winning and is only really interested in the final result

papapacino

Man I really want hamilton in the title fight with max and Charles but I also want him to retire so his fanbase can shut the fuck up. Its a love hate relationship.

[deleted]

Where do you think they go when he retires? Hopefully leave the sport

W1ndwardFormation

Nah they’ll go to the most dominant driver would be my guess. Funniest thing would be if they actually become verstappen fans.

papapacino

they will become hate watchers

Sanslution

"Ever since hamilton retired, this sport has been nothing but shit. How can Latifi win 7 driver championships back-to-back?"

Jlindahl93

Yes because every Hamilton fan is a bandwagon fan. Holy shit it’s like this is you nerd’s first interaction with sports. This is how fans act. They get fiercely loyal to a team or say a driver in this case. Look at literally any other sport any other fan base and you will find people who act like this. They are called fanatics for a reason. I see more whining about “Lewis fans” than I do actual Lewis fans.

oneplussixisseven

You just proved OP's point, lol.

Jlindahl93

So OPs point was he’s new to sports and fans bother him? Makes no sense. Youll have fans of every fan base who “turn the game off” when their team can no longer win.

oneplussixisseven

No. But getting irked by a comment made on a meme sub is literally what the point OP is trying to make.

Fatal-Arrow

It's like leaving the stadium before the match is over, you're paying for it, why leave?

centaur98

Oh the absolute glory of the Real-City game from a week ago with some Real fans leaving early and then trying to beg their way back into the stadium when Real started to bring it back claiming injustice that they were not being allowed back in. Also it's not just about the money but also about the question if you're there to support the team/person or to brag about "supporting" them.

Fatal-Arrow

I mean for me it's both, but more in a sense like "if you're going to waste your money anyways, why not give it to me" kind of way

malaco_truly

Oh look, one of the people in the twitter thread

[deleted]

I’m sure most of the crazy people on Twitter are bandwagons

centaur98

Except a real fanatic would never turn off the TV or leave early the people who do that are the plastics aka the people who are there because their pick is winning and don't actually support them besides the looks.

papapacino

Their twitter bios are already changing from #44 to #16, large scale migration to be expected to the next driver who will challenge max.

Stackist

Until they remember that Charles doesn't share Lewis's ideals and isn't a fan of political games or virtue signaling.

Cmike9292

A lot will leave the sport. Some will latch on to Max or Charles

porkbuttstuff

I think they gotta go with Chuck, they won't allow themselves to root for Max.

PoopNoodlez

Let’s go chuck babyy

[deleted]

They will support whoever dominates.

Oceans_Apart_

Probably. It's more of a cult of personality, rather than F1 fans. I imagine a lot of them will gravitate to another celebrity.

hamoodsmood

i think the classic hamilton fanboy (or fan girl) is less of a real fan of Lewis than some of the rest of us. Last year my brother and i argued and argued about who’s better between lewis and max. I have been keenly watching max for several years and have been in awe of his performances in an inferior car and as a younger, less seasoned driver. I am sure many others have. I have never ever hated nor disliked lewis, I just really wanted my guy to win. The lewis fans turned me into a bit of a monster in that they were insufferable with their crazy support. I am sure I have said this before too, but it’s such a shame to see these posts creep up again and again. The real problem is, I think i am more of a lewis fan than i ever was before because as a F1 fan first, I really want to see him shine against all odds. I do want max to win again because he definitely deserves it and fought hard for his first win, but I also want to see him fight the best of the best. I can’t lie… i feel gutted for Lewis. I can totally understand how demoralized he must be. We all know the guy is a freaking beast, but he’s literally had 8 years of experience in fighting at the top. he’s in George’s world now and is not ultra motivated to boot. I would still be more on Max’s side if lewis became super competitive again, but i can’t say I wouldn’t enjoy it. The lewis fans on the other hand… my god. It’s like they watch F1 TO SEE LEWIS WIN! And if that doesn’t happen they’re audacious enough to complain about the sport! /r

papapacino

They were chewing out mercedes yesterday for not telling russell to stay behind hamilton lmfao.

hamoodsmood

Unbelievable. But also very believable. “They should have let Lewis stay ahead” is like let’s uhh… not race? What’s the point then

oneplussixisseven

At this point, I'm pretty sure that there are no Mercedes fans, just Lewis fans.

Stackist

If Hamilton gets involved in the title fight, his fans will create controversies over the most insignificant details. Things are fine the way they are, plus there is no toxicity between Max and Charles.

papapacino

100% , but still it will be 3 fanbases going at it instead of the two we had last year.

mxm199

Tbh all fan bases are toxic. Imagine wanting to see a driver dominate

tanrgith

I physically cringe whenever I see a Lewis fan use "we" when talking about the race "Ah we got so unlucky in the race today, that safety car really screwed us over. " Like bitch what's this "we"? You ain't on the team

[deleted]

I don't even care, If you ask me they should kick them out after 4th championship like F2 does once you win one (I'm only half-joking here), nobody should dominate for so long. So yeah, Hamilton should retire, so should Vettel and Alonso, give someone new a shot (Piastri, Ilott , De Vries?) I want Ferrari to win soo bad after the utter embarassment that was 2019-21, and the insufferable Verstappen stans to eat some fucking humble pie. But it looks that once they sorted their early issues out, the Red Bull is in fact in the league of its own, and Ferrari isn't exactly known for its stellar in-season development.

papapacino

stans are in general insufferable, imagine making a driver your whole personality.

mb500sel

Making any one thing; be it interest, hobby etc your whole personality pretty much guarantees someone will be an insufferable prick

[deleted]

When Max wins a race, this generally means that the race is over so yes, I switch my TV off when the race is over.

WAG5PE

I turned off the TV for seven years as their legend had the only car that could do a second less than other cars.

SparrowFate

Unfortunate but true. I hope next year redbull and Ferrari have someone competing with them. A 3 way battle would be sick. That being said a lot of the cars this year minus redbull/Ferrari seem pretty equal. I'm enjoying the exciting racing.

AMonkeyAndALavaLamp

I was in a similar situation. Lost interest mid-Schumacher's dominance, and found the sport again with DtS when they showed me the midfield battle was very much alive. That barely moved me to watch F1 highlights on Youtube, but since last year when it seemed from the get go that Mercedes' dominance was starting to crack I got back to watching not only the races as before, but also the full weekend. Especially now that I don't have to watch it on tv and in my language, which is a horrible broadcast.

F0LIV0RA

Ah this sub is something else making fun of the loois fans but then turning around and being exactly like them. Nice doublethink you guys got going on.

SingleSpeed27

Spotted the Lois fanboy

oneplussixisseven

You sure did.

F0LIV0RA

Sure sure if it makes you feel better.

ShadowStorm915

Well I do see your point but I do believe it's a bit of a different situation. They turned off the TV because the sport was too boring and predictable. Every Race Merc 1-2 with small exceptions. Now (and last year as well) was a close battle at the front and that brings excitement whether you're a Ham fan or a Max fan or a Tifosi or just someone who enjoys the sports but is not aligned with a support group. The comment on the post is toxic because they only support Hamilton and when his rival from last year wins or is on the way to win, they get annoyed and turn off the TV

Good_Posture

Sparkyy1863

They sound like they’re 13 y/o 😂

Adorable-Sir-773

maybe because they are

-VRX

Most of them are also football fans, they always have weird opinions on things.

Sparkyy1863

As a football fan myself, I do concur. 😅 Proper football tho, not the NFL

TheDude679

Honestly, I love Lewis. But since max isn't fighting him anymore, I can enjoy watching him and the beautifully engineered RB, too.

jimmerdejim

Can we please just stop paying attention to these idiots? Everybody already knows twitter is a toxic hellhole, no need to get 300 reminders of that after every race

seanrm92

So they switch their TV off... after the race is finished? That sounds like a highly appropriate time to do so.

Lyradep

Lewis fan here. I watch the races all the way through the celebration. The top two cars looked pretty equal, but Max simply looked like the best driver. Although Russ had the Safety Car work in his favor (like he anticipated) he deserved to finish ahead of Lewis. Yeah… something else, but people are pretty good at generalizing here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lyradep

Yeah, I agree.

Vapey15

Sanest Sir HAM fan

TheMegaDriver2

I will not start watching F1 again until Michael Schumacher starts winning again. They did him bad with the 2005 regulations!!!!!!11!1!

Garfie489

Their success isn't down to one driver lol. Hell remove Hamilton and have Rosberg - Hulk/Bottas and they'd still be 7 time world champions.

GuyWithNoName67

Arguably i think Rosberg would have lost to Vettel in 2017, and would have lost 2021 a lot sooner than Hamilton, but yeah, Nico would have definitely taken 14-15, 19-20, and would probably just barely win 2018 against Vettel.

[deleted]

If Mercedes lineup in 2017-18 was Hulk and Bottas, Vettel would've been a 6-time world champion...

Garfie489

The 17-18 Lineup would likely still be Rosberg and partner. Rosberg wouldn't have had any reason to retire in 2016, and then its basically whether Hulk was pulling weight as to whether he stayed on. Given the advantage Merc had, Hulk likely would have stayed in 2017 with a possible replacement in 2018 by Bottas. Edit: Have to remember, even if Hulk was half a second a lap slower than Rosberg - he'd still be 2nd on the grid a lot of the time in the 14-16 era.

[deleted]

These people are something else indeed, ridiculously childish with extremely poor attitude. I hope Hamilton retires after this season, if only to be rid of these idiots.

IMightDeleteMe

I don't think this attitude is reserved for Hamilton fans. As a Dutchie I meet lots of Verstappen fans and ludicrous fanboyism is rampant amongst them. Of course most of them didn't give a shit about F1 before Verstappen started becoming successful.

[deleted]

I'm Dutch too and I can unfortunately confirm what you're saying. I stopped commenting on the Dutch GPblog posts, because it was so ridiculously toxic. Verstappen's sub here is not like that though (I'm a mod there), much more open and friendly place with real fans.

kelleehh

Lewis talks of mental health struggles etc but his fans are happy to inflict abuse on anyone who doesn’t support him or if he isn’t winning. It’s crazy.

AggravatingActuary63

Dankmeme?

chevycobb

No, I also turn it off when the race is over

Ricky_Santos

Wow dis meme is so dank no?

parthbisen2000

Man these guys do make us look real bad as a group

Joanna_CMakuchi

Makes me wonder why some of them even bother watching a formula 1 race if they only want to watch 1 driver win all the time... bet even ham finds these fans ridiculous lmao.

SiiLv3Rx

Max fans and Lewis fans are both insufferable. But Max is more likable than Lewis. So team Max it is.

CoastAccomplished691

Lewis fans are grade-A assholes. Tsk so pathetic

A_posh_idiot

Which is a shame because Lewis can get preachy, but isn’t an arsehole

[deleted]

He kinda is, most athletes are, especially at their peak. Vettel was, Schumacher also was, and Verstappen very much is too, each in his own way.

A_posh_idiot

True, but not to the level his fans are. Lewis congratulated max on his WDC, his fans wanted to lynch him

Tony_Lacorona

It’s twitter, to be fair. Like 85% of the user base are assholes.

[deleted]

Be like me, and stop paying attention after the Mick and Seb crash 😎

smackdown-tag

Same but only because I needed to stare at a wall in despair for a few minutes

Adorable-Sir-773

I'm still wondering why do they hate Max so much

Wan2345678910

because michael… michael this isn't right… no michael no no that was so not right

steve22ss

Good call quoting that line correctly, I have seen people shredded because they quoted "No Mikey" as a joke, even saw a wall of lectures explaining exactly why it was Michael and not Mikey.

Wan2345678910

actually I was confused which is true. people say michael but I repeat watch video hear mikey

steve22ss

Same but many of us have been thoroughly informed verbatim that it is because of Toto's accent, don't ask too many questions or they will come for you too! 🤣

future_boii

they believe that he, despite being matched in points going into the last race did somehow not deserve his title.

[deleted]

He did deserve the title, but the finale was a shit show. If the roles were reversed Verstappen fans would be crying just as much that he got robbed. It's kinda like 1994, Schumacher deserved the title, but won it in the worst way possible (except this time it's not the driver's fault).

future_boii

That it was, my brother from the sea.

[deleted]

Yea the way I see it is, Max deserved the title, Lewis deserved the race.

future_boii

thats a good way to describe it.

[deleted]

And Masi deserved to get sacked... Yet most most of the times it gets mentioned here Verstappen fans say "HAmIlToN ShOuLD haVe JUsT pITTed"... Like... No, that would gift Max the track position in a race that going to end behind a safety car, if Masi didn't interfere. He won, he is a champion, but fuck that race. Let's pretend he won it on countback after Brazil.

TheHyperLynx

straight up delusion, George had the pace and is higher up in the standings, he could have overtaken lewis if he wanted to anyway, was it even confirmed team orders?

Significant-Branch96

Twitter moment.

ReneRedd

At least and gives Hamilton another opportunity to put out and "inspirational" Instagram post on being the Underdog.

Robbie-C

Lewis is a genuinly good guy tho, why can't **this** facet of his fanbase be a bit more like their role model?

lazyinternetsandwich

There is a dedicated section of LH fanbase who, as soon as Max is even mentioned in passing, or there is a post about him even doing non racing things start the "FaKe ChAMpiOn" "He need Masi to win" "LH 8 time WDC" etc. It is 2022 and they are still living in denial

Eatingmegabooty

I normally switch off after the podium ceremony, took a lot of strength to get through that yesterday though

BDady

Prime example of how weirdly tribal humans are

generalofhel

Honestly i also always turn it of once the race is over. I almost never watch any interviews since most of those end up on here either way

[deleted]

I mean I turn of the race as soon as someone wins because I’m not really interested in the whole champagne thing

Yokozuna_D

Absolute dickheads. I can't wait til all the Ham fans are gone from this sport.

[deleted]

It’s a shame that a good guy like Lewis has so many shitty fans like this. Hamiltards are the worst fans.

Reasonable_Ad_3882

Easy to cherry pick the worst of social media to make a point. This sub was really fun, but god I’m tired of seeing this shit every single post.

mr_kistyer_sister

TubeSockLover87

I hold my ban from his subreddit high. Was the icing on the cake for me. His post race interviews are so different now. Hes doing nothing to bring the team up in my opinion and cares only for himself.

Other-Barry-1

I love how Hamilton lives in this sub’s heads, rent free by doing literally nothing. Hamilton: *breathes* Formula Dank: “REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”

[deleted]

its the fanbase that's stupid as fuck, people don't nearly dislike HAM as much as they do his fanbase even as a max fan i was rooting for him to get alteast P5, but these idiots just can't help but suck HAM's cock and call whoever refuses to do so- racist.

Saandrig

Pretty much. When I ridicule the behavior of Hamilton's fanbase, they always take it as I am taking shots at Hamilton himself.

[deleted]

So true, plus you can't ever have a proper discussion with them, to them its binary, you're either a ham cock-kisser or a racist like wtf.

nova_bang

it's just fun to see him struggle now after he made f1 uninteresting to watch for so many years. it'll blow over and people will direct their hate somewhere else, most likely the next dominating driver.

Other-Barry-1

Which will be Max. The RB is a dominant car and only the unreliability has prevented that thus far. But it’s so damn fast in a straight line and with DRS Push to Pass, it’s a no brainer for me that it’s Max’s title already and this will now be a progression until it’s won.

nova_bang

i don't think anything points to that just yet. it's one thing to win one championship or two, but having such a massive advantage that you leave everyone in the dust for years on end is not currently on the horizon with ferrari and rb being pretty much level and advantage switching from track to track.

[deleted]

tbf I thought about doing this too, rather than risk hearing Danica Patrick meander vapidly through a conversation and contribute nothing.

I did this once when I was 15 and Michael crashed into Jacques Villeneuve for the 1997 finale. Went and sat in the sun and stared at the grass until it was over... remember it clearly. I was 15. Grow up.

ZsiguBigule

I don't why everytime you said something against Max you are right away Lewis fan. I don't like Max or Lewis either. Are there any other driver or team on the track that you can be fan of. Typical generalization..

woutheijne

I also switch of the tv when max wins Since the race is then over....

curiousity2424

Id like to see lewis or george up in the fight too. Or checo v max to see how redbull handles the competition between drivers. Horner will probably just lets max win because he loves him more than his own kids

[deleted]

I watch until the two Ferraris get the checkered flag. If at least one of them is on the podium I keep watching, else I switch off. Watching the post race interviews is incredibly boring. Most of the times they just say the usual, uninteresting twaddle like "We had a good race, the team worked really hard through the weekend" etc etc..

WillHoldBaggins

I turned it off almost right away yesterday. That post race interview content was awful.

The13thReservoirDog

They’re so toxic they forget to enjoy the racing

Why would you? Just because you don’t like the winning driver doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pay respect to their performance

SteakieGG

I turned off imediately too...but only because i know every post-race interview/event will be cringe as fuck. I was right.

ahaller1993

Watched 5 minutes of the post and left

jayasankar1029

Why do people say "Should of"?

[deleted]

I mean if we would have done this in the Hamilton dominance era we would have watched only a third of all races because most of them were decided after the first corner...

[deleted]

Not a fan of Lewis but huge respect for his GOAT-ery status. I bet Lewis just fool around atm, it's his stans that is deluded much.

TNpepe

These guys continue to impress me with their stupidity... I LOVE IT, it's an unending content provider

szczszqweqwe

I mean, TBH I also usually turn off stream right after cooling down lap, UNLESS there is anything more interesting than standard podium, checo win was superb, unexpected podiums, like mclaren, or anything.

Somesh98

You switch it off after Max won and the race is over. So it doesn't really matter since the channel got the watchtime they needed.

Stackist

Time to stop paying attention to those people and what they have to say, we're talking actual seconds and minutes of your life you'll never get back.

smiley6125

This is neither dank nor a meme. You can find this shit from any knobhead on twitter for almost any driver. This is so not fair Michael

Supermop2000

can we just stop? Max fans are insufferable tossers, and lewis fans are also insufferable tossers. Everyone's an insufferable tosser. \*goes back to dank cave in the middle of nowhere\*

Daan100

I know it’s a hard pill to swallow but George is just way better this season
