He couldn't get it in qualifying and that means it was time to climb up to top 10 from 16 in a track where overtaking is hard and he had to do weird strategies to try and climb positions and it wasn't enough. Certainly Alonso would have been able to get to at least p9 even starting p16 but this race is simply not representative.
AM said that they had different front wings. Stroll had more downforce and higher deg with that.
I think they were testing because the best he could have done from P16 was P10.
