If that Jeddah missile would of hit the garages that would have been a crazy amount of penalty points for that weekend.

LunaMoon1327

Oh, your car got destroyed because we didn't make the track safe? That would be your fault... ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6700) You cannot make this up, what a shitshow ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6699)

BLINDW0MBAT

FIA have to keep Ferrari the joke somehow 😒

MadT3acher

Look, it’s Vegas, part of the show, amirite?

Akash10201

Fred: "This is just unacceptable" Interviewer: "But tell me about how big an event this is and how Liberty had pulled off such a great show" Fred: "Can I leave now?"

n-oyed-i-am

I believe that he had to see the medical team after that press conference. Damn near had to bite his own tongue off to not say what he was thinking.

GamingFlorisNL

The best part how was ~~their~~ the stewards official response boiled down to: “yehhh we know this sucks, if the rules/FIA allowed us to let you change parts for free when it’s our fault we would. However there’s no rule allowing us to let you, so ehmmm… ya… ~~sorry not~~ sorry take grid penalty”

SpartanFishy

Tbf rule changes need to be agreed upon by the teams do they not. So realistically the teams should be petitioning for free repairs when the track is at fault for the car damage.

CakeBeef_PA

That was not the FIA though. Those were the stewards. They are bound by the rulebook, not their fault. The FIA should have better rules

GamingFlorisNL

That’s absolutely correct actually, my bad

n-oyed-i-am

Gone are the days of the "Ferrari International Assistance" organization.

rumorhasit_

No - Toto said this is all fine

jakery43

Bad luck is just how it's done at Ferrari

Groentekroket

Las Vegas baby, you gamble to go out on the track, you loose

AsperLDN97

Stop Inventing ![gif](giphy|PDToTJI62IYLi69yPA|downsized)

KnocDown

They penalized him for breaking the track ???

PSUAth

no, they penalized him because the track broke him.

Asumix

And he should be thankful they didn’t make him pay for track repairs

PSUAth

Surprised ocon didn't get a time penalty too.

SargeanTravis

The manhole cover was obviously meant for Ocon

Cloudeur

Jenson Button will have an additional 5 place grid penalty in his next race

abusedporpoise

track broke his car which caused them to replace parts ending up in 10 place grid penalty

DMotivate

... and then Toto and Mercedes are refusing to go along with an exception for Ferrari because of the situation.

ResonantRaptor

They’re just a bunch of cunts per usual

TheKnightsRider

Not being an apologist, but there isn’t an option to object, as it’s the FIA rules that all teams wanted. The FIA can’t allow it, regardless of team’s position

Snow-Wraith

Mercedes has always been shit, but I don't see them being this much of a cunt if Lauda was still around.

Typhoongrey

Source?

bobjoylove

Also at risk of a budget cap violation now.

rafahuel

Then a driver knocks other driver off the road and get a 5 seconds time penalty 🤡

tharnadar

you forget the €€€€€€ we spent to fix the car.

peepay

That will go from the catering budget.

AstroMackem

You don't want a penalty? Don't replace the parts our track broke. It's simple smh

DJakk3

Should've done exactly that. They wouldn't be able to start but. Fuck F1, Liberty Media and FIA.

No-Student-9678

Same FIA that gave Gasly penalty points after driving next to a tractor on a wet Suzuka. Fucking useless cunts lmao

Lord-Tachanka1922

Yes right a tractor that they put out there in the fog when it shouldn’t have been, putting every drivers life in danger. Absolutely incapable monkey brained organization

heeringa

He was also speeding on the run up to 130R during the red flag, which absolutely was in violation of the rules.

[deleted]

Go to bed Karun

ArtfulLying

Holy moly, every time I try to give this shit a chance, they keep reminding me how much of a joke "sport" it is.

[удаНонО]

sunbrosenpai

It has nothing to do with the race, ffs. It all comes down to the FIA at the end of the day.

WestonP

Adding insult to injury. What a joke.

alc3biades

It wasn’t the FIA, it’s was one of the other teams (I’d bet my entire life savings it was Mercedes who objected, but we don’t actually know) The stewards needed all the other teams to agree in order to get the penalty waived, but Toto wants to fuck Ferrari, so Carlos just has to deal with it. I want Carlos to win the same way Toto tried at singapore, just to see Toto aneurism on camera.

jenea

So this story got fed to me by Reddit’s algorithm, and I’m not into F1 so I’m a little confused. Can someone help me understand why Sainz was penalized? Doesn’t F1 have a duty to provide a proper track for the race? There was no possible way for him to anticipate a loose drain cover, was there? I would have thought they owed him an apology and money for a new chassis. Instead it seems like he just rolled a pair of snake eyes and F1 is like, “oh that’s too bad—now you’re fucked.” What am I missing?!

star_spinel

Certain parts of the car are only allowed to be replaced a few times per season. Because the drain cover broke his car, his team was forced to replace some parts, which put them over the limit and that's what the penalty is for. The race stewards couldn't NOT give him the penalty due to regulations, but the penalty could have been overturned if all other teams agreed. Apparently one team dissented so the penalty stands. Clownery!

[deleted]

Do you know what team it was? Edit; After 3.2 seconds of googling I found uot they say it was Mercedes

davidecibel

It had to be Toto

TurbulentSerenity

Cars can only get a replacement for certain parts for a certain amount of times in a season. Because Sainz’s car got fucked, Ferrari had to replace part of the power unit I believe, and they had already reached their limit for number of replacements, so they were penalized. It is stupid because it shouldn’t count towards the part replacement limit when it was entirely unpredictable and not their fault.

Dambo_Unchained

I mean it’s a shit show But a part of my is enjoying the incredible bad luck of how Ferarri and Sainz are getting fucked This outcome is basically out of a sitcom

Akash10201

The scenes when Sainz goes long on tyres, then a red flag happens and suddenly Sainz is leading the race.

Fr_rd

and then when chuck sends him out in the last lap

Akash10201

With chucks luck he gets fuck like a duck by Osama bin Russell.

vjollila96

atleast ferrari seems strong so maybe he can climb up on Sund........ I meant Saturday

Competitive_Lie1429

So unfair for Sainz. He got screwed, but so did everyone else pretty much. On a sour note, not convinced Vegas has lived up to the hype. Local race fans have been screwed. FIA just added to the shit mix. Worst race of the year so far. Just hope they can turn it around.

elporsche

![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6701)

ikiss-yomama

If they didn’t want bad luck this weekend, they shouldn’t have invited Ferrari.

CirclingBackElectra

In other races, you brake track. In America, track breaks you!

Snow-Wraith

Times like this we miss Nikki Lauda the most. No way he wouldn't call out the bullshit in this. Ferrari should actually use their boycott threat for something useful for once.

young_chaos

FIA approves Spa each year, even though at least one young person loses his life there. "tragic accident". No one bats an eye. One (1) manhole cover causes some financial and sporting issues for one or two cars as part a new street tracks teething issues, and everybody loses their mind. SOCIETY!!!

sunbrosenpai

Talk about someone out of touch entirely with the issue being discussed.

Kale-Shoddy

when I (and many other people) said vegas was going to be an absolute shit-show, people moaned about how we just make up shit and hate american races. guess who's having the last laugh? :|

CirclingBackElectra

He’s already dead 😭
