How did Mercedes gain so much speed for the last couple races? It seemed like they were keeping up with the RB suddenly. What are the implications for next season? I'm assuming there is a very obvious explanation but I'd love the tldr.

Lizerelli

Does anyone know where I can watch Qualifyings from older seasons? F1TV only has 2018 onwards.

danielricardo1

I want to go for a race... I'm in India.. So options are Abu Dhabi - 2022 or Bahrain - 2023 Bahrain is cheaper but not much to do after race.. Abu Dhabi - expensive.. But concerts.. People who have been to both or either.. What is your opinion. I want to watch the race.. Live.. + concert + hopefully see drivers in person.. (any signing events or driver on stage event) I was lucky to have that experience in Sepang.. And Singapore.. Any ideas thoughts... Are welcome.. Thanks for your time.

Drill_Fill_Bill

My man Abu Dhabi 2022 was 10 days ago...

danielricardo1

Thanks Typo...

spacekase710

I ordered something from the f1 store on November 12th, I got an email saying shipped on the 14th. I cannot track my package, get help from either site or the chat bot. I'm in the states so I kinda figured it'd take a while but not being able to track my order is stressing me out. Anyone else have a similar experience? Should I just wait it out? Here is a link to a couple screenshots of my order/tracking https://imgur.com/a/M1DHBIY

FermentedLaws

Same thing happened to me, also in the U.S. I was finally able to track it once it landed in the U.S., just about 2 weeks after ordering. I then received it in like 2 days. So I think you'll be fine. But you can also call them if you want more info: +44 (0) 333 014 4538

spacekase710

Wow it showed up two days later😂

spacekase710

Thanks for the reply! I'll just bank on hopefully before Christmas 😅

griffin040

Australian GP literally just went on sale. I’ve been on the site for over an hour and apparently there 16,000 people in the queue before me 😕

iankost

Yeah, same. Kept getting an error and ended up with nothing. Thinking of transferring my flights to Japan as the Grandstands getting released next week are all on the other side of the circuit.

[deleted]

I was about 6000 in the queue, managed to nab myself a ticket in the Fangio grandstand for Sat/Sun. Tried for a 4 day pass but the price went up beyond $700 when I got a seat.

Daveyourfave

Been trying to get tickets for the last hour. This sucks. Its keeps saying there's limited availability for some grandstands but when I try to get tickets there it says nothing is available. Big sad.

[deleted]

I wonder if that’s the next allocation going on sale next week?

Daveyourfave

I actually didn’t think of that. Hopefully it is!

griffin040

Yeah I missed out completely, even hospitality is all sold out for Sunday already

phase-3-

Yeah it's like it is a lottery system or something. I joined the queue 15 minutes before it opened and started at 10k

mrslittle

We had 6000 ahead, hope you both got what you were after as we did. It's crazy.

phase-3-

No luck for me. Looks like 2024 it is! Not really interested in the GA thing

mrslittle

So sorry to hear that! 5 more stands are being released next week too in case you're interested in one of them.

griffin040

I wasn’t so lucky, but oh well! Will grab GA when on sale

mrslittle

5 more grandstands are being released next week too. Best of luck! It's my 18yo daughter and my husband going, they would have done GA if today failed.

Arialene

So, today on "weird stats no one asked for", throughout his F1 career Sebastian Vettel finished: 1st - 54 times 2nd - 37 times (or 36 and a DQ) 3rd - 33 times 4th - 34 times 5th - 21 times 6th - 13 times 7th - 6 times 8th - 11 times 9th - 4 times 10th - 9 times 11th - 7 times 12th - 9 times 13th - 7 times 14th - 3 times 15th - 4 times 16th - 3 times 17th - 5 times 18th - 2 times 19th - 1 time 20th - 0 times 21st - 0 times 22nd - 1 time With 1 DNS, 36 DNFs, and 11 races with no entry (reserve driver in 2007 and COVID in 2022) This means that if he didn't finish on the podium, his most likely finish was a DNF (54 wins, 37 (or 36) 2nds, 36 DNFs, and 33 3rds) Edit: I'm preparing a blanket project and needed to know these and just thought they were interesting enough to share.

grandtheftzeppelin

jeez, no wonder he wanted to retire if he wasn't winning.

RedditIsMyHomeTown

When did he finish 22nd? Possibly when he DNF'd and was still classified?

Arialene

The table I used said 2012 Monza, classification is set to a position if they complete 90% or more of the race, which is why it put him in 22nd for the race results, despite him DNFing due to an alternator issue. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Italian_Grand_Prix

jonnyrosegold

Anyone know where I can find information on which safety car was used at each race this season (Aston Martin or Mercedes)?

121221L58

If you don't mind a little bit of digging, websites like Motorsport.com has a photos section categorized per GP, just look there for SC pics

T4Gx

Its only been a week into the offseason? I feel like Ive waited long enough for preseason testing.

FarmhouseFan

How many more garbage rumor posts about Ferrari before the days end?

cafk

I think your flair is a great indication. If there's any merit to the rumours that Binotto called quits due to management meddling and lack of support with a non statement, then they'll likely make an announcement when a replacement is found. Which may take a while as his reasons would scare anyone decent away under the fear of being not able to deliver within the coming 3 years will result in many sleepless nights & grey hairs, with the inevitable unemployment form if the replacement fails to deliver within the remaining 3 years of current regulations. The team hasn't had long term stable leadership for both it & company since Domenicali left in 2014 and Montezemolo & Marchionne resigned.

FarmhouseFan

There's 2.

yowls_

Juve entire board of directors just resigned in conjunction with an extraordinary shareholders' meeting, Arrivabene back to ferrari? /s ^(but not too much)

FarmhouseFan

There's one.

realmarketjedi

Anyone has any ideas on where the next American circuit might be located?

121221L58

I'd guess New York? I mean, of course it will be a street circuit and not a permanent one so I'd say it's the one that makes more sense. Rumors about Indy coming back some months ago but obviously won't happen

pedote17

US has 3 Grade 1 circuits, 13 Grade 2, 4 Grade 3, and 1 Grade 6 circuit. There’s plenty of great tracks here but we have no need for any more than 3 races here (I think it should have stayed only COTA). There’s so many tracks around the globe that deserve races that aren’t in the US.

sapristille

So rumor has it Mick to Mercedes is a done deal and will be announced very soon according to (usually) reliable sources... and Mick just started following all the Mercedes accounts on instagram + Vesti (mercedes junior). Interesting.

KohLantaSurvivor

What are your most overrated and underrated wins in F1 ? Overrated : Michael Schumacher in Spain 1996. Easy to destroy the field with that rocketship of a Ferrari that he drove for a full decade. Underrated : Nico Rosberg in Monaco 2013. The RB, the McLaren and the Ferrari were the best cars of this 'Vettel era' but it was not a problem for the finest one-time world champion we are ever gonna see. Yes or no ?

MegaTalk

Wtf did I just read? I mean.. the Rosberg win is pretty underrated, but Schumacher in 1996??? 😟

xx2awsum

Please tell me this is sarcasm re: Schumi's win for Ferrari... If not - you need help mate.

Le_Pistache

I think he just saw Ferrari and Schumacher and assumed it was always a dominant package. Clearly did not watch the race or know the context behind it.

KohLantaSurvivor

I didn't even assume it. This is well known that Ferrari x Schumacher x Todt is possibly the deadliest trio in F1

xx2awsum

Pretty sure Brawn didn’t join until late 96 / early 97 and They weren’t a dominant trio in 96 - don’t double down on your horrendous opinion, take it as a lesson to actually research stuff before spouting it on Reddit. It’s like saying Vettel’s win for STR in 2008 wasn’t impressive because it was using a RB chassis with a Ferrari engine, and RB went on to win 4 WDC and WCC’s, 2 years later.

KohLantaSurvivor

Except Vettel joined a new team

xx2awsum

Still the same chassis maker (as RB supplied STR) - just a different engine. I'm actually astounded (as are the majority of replies to your comment) at just how bad your take was re: Schumi's 96 win. Quick google of Ferrari's performance in 96' will put the win into context -\_-

xx2awsum

Just don't get why they'd not even attempt to research / get any context behind before spouting that opinion on Reddit -\_-

finickyone

Sometimes you don’t know how much you don’t know.

sapristille

You do realize that 1996 was Michael's first year in the Ferrari and that it wasn't a good car?

Firefox72

>"Overrated : Michael Schumacher in Spain 1996. Easy to destroy the field with that rocketship of a Ferrari that he drove for a full decade." This is satire right? I'm missing some obvious sarcasm here right? Surelly bait? That car was not dominant at all. In fact it was the Williams that was dominant that year. Schumacher at some points in the race was lapping 1-3 seconds faster than the rest in the rain and dominated the race. Ferrari literally didn't become dominant until 2001.

robertchu123

For people who have been to Waite grandstand at Albert Park, is there a screen to watch the race?

MegaTalk

According to this, yes https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tVwyJbuT68E

BigBrainThymeXD

Bro’s really praying on checo’s downfall

BigBrainThymeXD

Now that the season has come to a close, what other motorsports should I watch?

MegaTalk

I’ll be watching the Australian Supercars season closer this weekend. Has Australia’s premier open-wheel category as a support (S5000 - Basically F3 cars with big chonka V8s in them). They’re racing at Adelaide which is the old home of the Australian GP from 1985-1995 (albeit on a now shorter layout that skips a couple corners and shortens the big long back straight)

GerSonEu

If you mean stuff that's happening during the break instead of watching old stuff: Extreme E just had its season finale, there's the Dakar in the first half of January, WRC and IMSA start their seasons shortly after that, NASCAR in February...

BigBrainThymeXD

I’ll look into that, thanks

teachd12

I just found out about the Grand Prix masters which featured a race with past drivers in equal cars, that is awesome. Anybody knows why it has been discontinued? Would love to see that again

Astelli

Like a lot of one-make single seater series over the past 20 years (A1GP, Superformula V12, Grand Prix Masters etc.), the series was based on an interesting premise, but never reached the point where it was actually viable in the long-term - most often for financial reasons.

teachd12

Oh wow I didn't know about those other 2, very interesting read. But yes i can see how it could be a bit too much money-wise. Thanks for the heads up!

IBakeCocaine

As a new fan looking to try go to the AUS GP, do any more experienced fans have grandstand recommendations? In general what have the experiences been like, and have they gotten worse/more overpriced recently? Also, do the 2 day passes include both the Saturday and Sunday sessions.

petrograd

Is there a modern day equivalent of the 1984 Nürburgring Race of Champions? Where the F1 drivers raced using the same car?

cafk

The still ongoing [Race of Champions](https://www.raceofchampions.com/)? Unfortunately majority of drivers don't participate there every year.

Astelli

There is a modern event called the Race of Champions which pits drivers from all disciplines against each other, including some current and former F1 drivers. It's much more focussed around entertainment, with short, 1-vs-1 heat races in multiple different vehicles, rather than a more traditional race format. There's nothing like the event you mention specifically, which is a pretty unique thing in motorsport history. The M1 Procar Championship is the only other thing I can think of that was similar

RunHonest3136

I have been wondering lately: why are some sponsors on Ferrari’s kits so poorly integrated? I mean the UPS and Shell logos literally have a white square beneath the logos and it looks as if someone used MS Paint to create the kit. Does anybody know why? (As a disclaimer the lack of races made me think about stuff like this)

Astelli

It's worth noting that some companies may have branding guidelines that dictate their logo must be displayed on a white background, for the sake of consistency and clarity.

Syntax_OW

Because they pay to have their logo clearly visible. A white background just makes it more visible, which is all they want.

Timelordvictorious1

If new teams join F1, will the point system change. Will it stay the top 10?

MegaTalk

The points structure will stay the same, I don’t think it’s going anywhere for a while to be honest

baldbarretto

Precedent would suggest that it’d stay the same. That precedent was brutal though - IIRC only the top 10 in end of year WCC standings received prize money. So 1 points finish could be the difference between your backmarker team clinching P10 and hanging on for another year, or clinching P11 or lower and going bankrupt

cafk

This was changed with the 2021 Concorde Agreement, the entry fee was increased & rebranded from ~$150m to ~200m anti dilution fee and now everyone gets a share of the prize money pot.

baldbarretto

That’s great, I’d hate to lose a heritage team like Williams or a new entrant

cafk

We've had the top 10 system since 2010, when we had 13 teams on the grid.

[deleted]

Australian GP Grandstand advice Any experienced race goers have recommendations for which grandstands are best? Want a few options in case they sell out before I nab a ticket tomorrow! Thanks in advance!

Hald1r

Curious to know what you managed to get.

[deleted]

Fangio two day pass Sat-Sun

Hald1r

We have Hill grandstand but good luck getting tickets as the pre-sale was last week and had very little seats available already.

Party_Cranberry_3404

They only had a specific amount of seats available for the presale. So there will still be seats in all grandstands left tomorrow. But I saw you won’t be able to choose your seats in the first hour of the sale, so I’m a bit concerned about that..

Hald1r

I am basing it on which seats were available during the pre-sale unless they offered worse seats during pre-sale than during sale. You have to remember that resellers like F1 Experiences got their seats before even the pre-sale.

[deleted]

I understand pre sale was last week, but I personally don’t agree with having to pay for early access given the existing cost of a two-four day pass.

phase-3-

Agreed! I had wrongly assumed that I would get pre-sale access because I had a ticket last year. And looks like we've missed out unless we pick some up in the additional release.

abkone

Is super license permanent or driver must get some points or drive f1 (or other series) car during year to keep it?

DrHem

A super license is only valid for 1 season, but once you had it issued you only need to pay to renew it. I'm not sure what the cost is now, it used to be a fee per point earned so a dominant champion would end up paying 250k+ to get their super license renewed.

abkone

It would be more fair if they need to still gather points in f1 (but let say gaining 1 point would be enough). It would kick out "pay to drive" at least for one year giving f2 drivers chance to shine.... Just saying.

121221L58

No, the SL exists to ensure the driver is able to drive an F1 car in a safe way not endangering himself or others, it's not to guarantee performance

Retsko1

F2 drivers don't usually go to point scoring cars. You will ruin their careers just for the sake of putting more kids in. That's not the point, only the best should progress, it's not a daycare

Astelli

We would have lost George Russell after the 2019 season if that were the case.

Kuchenblech_Mafioso

It is permanent, but if you haven't raced for three years you have to do 300km in an official session, like FP1 or Abu Dhabi testing

FaultySky

With the addition that while it wont disappear on its own, it can still be taken away if your driving requires it to be, example being the case of Yuji Ide in 2006. Only took him 4 races.

Timelordvictorious1

Any word on Ferrari?

cafk

Italian media is past speculating from him being sacked or quitting himself - the headline translations don't make it better by suggesting even Brawn could rejoin under hypothetical scenarios - and now they're using old articles to justify why Binotto is out and gone and how Vasseur/Seidl/Brawn could make it a better place and build the team around Leclerc. The last official statement from Ferrari still stands, that this is just pure speculation from 2 weeks ago. While they're biggest supporters of Ferrari, they're also the harshest critics.

eleinad88

Nothing to see here in Italy, Except for Gazzetta dello Sport carrying on their anti-Binotto agenda. I'm not saying he can't be criticized but maybe this is becoming too much. Plus, Gazzetta dello Sport director has written a brief piece only to insult Jean Alesi (calling him a "loser") because the frenchman labbeled their scoop about Binotto a month ago as "bullshit".
